I don’t know if I’ve ever seen Kokkinakis hit his backhand so well throughout a match like that 👀
Changing direction, and driving it with depth on the cross court.. wow. Didn’t see that coming from a player I usually see as a serve and forehand guy. Well fuckin played.
Yeah if you'd have told me before the match that Kokkinakis would win the bh to bh exchanges in this matchup I would've called B.S. Really well done
Kokki's backhand is something special
Could watch kokki slap forehand’s all day lmao
Good to see him back in form playing well❤
He only plays good at home and fumbles in majors
Yes
So happy for thanasi!!
Congrats Thanasi Kokkinakis brilliant play defeating Andrew Rublev
This feels like the last milestone Kokkinakis needed to crack on his comeback trail, and he did it. Rublev's a quality player, but kokk outmatched him especially when he broke in set 3
He will probably do the typical vanishing act for the rest of the season. However most Aussies do that as well. Top 10 player at their home city tournament but ten not much the rest of the year
@@Creees i think the main reason he wasn't really that present over the course of the 2022 season was due to sinus issues that he had surgery for right before the atp finals.
playing the aussis on home soil is a nightmare :D
That is an absurd theory!
aussies are concentrated playing from 25 december to 25 january and then relax and party for the next 11 months. way to go!
almost cheating in my book.
@@antonis190811 U r giving cricket"s theory in tennis bro 😂
Kokkinakis has really improved.
Great match! What a big hitters they are! Hope to see them playing good at AO
Wow good job Koki..👌
No one saw that coming. Kokkinakis! A year ago he was this obscure player who wins an ATP tournament for the first time and then wins Australian Open Men's Doubles with Kyrios. Looks like he's ready for more.
Wdym obscure? Was great in Junior Tennis, broke through not long after that and showed promise (Indian Wells 4th round), but injuries ruined him for multiple years....
Beat federer long ago
@@Brofist125 He wasn't obscure...as you said, he was a promising player but after a long layoff he was in his mid 20's and didn't have any sponsors or anything. Then he started playing great so he was perhaps, written off before he came back.
Obscure ? He's beaten Federer a few years ago...
@@katerinapatiniotis5598 Yeah but he fell off from the injuries, you gotta remember that was nearly 5 years ago. People forgot...do you remember Denis Istomin?
Very likeable chap and good to see him competing against the best !
Without injuries that man would have been top 10
Could still make it
@@Brofist125 definitely !
Good to see Kokkinakis healthy and in form. Always great seeing him win in front of his home crowd. Rublev is such a good sportsman as always!
The audience gave the game to Kokkinakis.
Great job Kokki! Great job! The second game was fast that’s how Rublev won. He didn’t seem to have the same fast paced third set. Also Kokki executed a beautiful disruption there lol. Happy for you man! Keep it up.
A. Rublev recently spent a significant part of his time into fashion related issues: new brand Rublo, Bulgari advertising... He'd rather have enriched his team or changed his Coach: while his forehand is still definitively one of the top 5 on the tour, the remaining facets of his game (backhand, variations, slices, non-hitted serves, etc.) haven't improved at all in the recent years and younger players will bring a very tough competition in the coming months...
I think Serena taught us that you can have both but you must have near clinically insane work ethic in everything you do. Does Rublev have that work ethic? I don’t know 🤷🏾♂️
Well Alcaraz is shooting underwear ads for CK while Rublev is grinding down under. Cockynakkis can give anyone a run for their money. Especially so when the crowd is behind him.
@@willybeama1 The WTA is different though, players don't hit as hard and move as well so big hitters get away without being fully rounded (see players like sabalenka, muguruza etc.). Iga hits hard and moves well, hence why she's so dominant
@@willybeama1 he’s well known to have one if the best work ethics on tour.
I don't even know what you're talking about top tennis players lives seem absolutely boring and futile for me I don't even care but it can be a reason to lose the focus, maybe not that case, Rublev is mentally weak even when the most focused player on tour he can lose the whole focus only missing an easy ball in a 1st round match.
Good on Kokkinakis for keeping his head down and putting the work in amidst the period of inconsistency that he's been battling for a while. Taking down Rublev in his current form is a serious accomplishment, would love to see Thanasi cause more disruption like this at the top level.
Great point, looking at his form end of last year you never would have predicted such a win! He now needs to replicate this away from Adelaide
As Roger would say....Nice one Thanaser!
Damn! Who knew Kokkinakis had it in him. Great play! Faltered in the second set but came back aggressive in the 3rd.
Let’s gooo Rublev!!
This was his breakthrough match… a top 10 star ⭐️ has been born! The most fundamental match in his career so far…
He did beat Federer in Miami back in '18. Still this is a great result and hopefully a sign of things to come.
Let him first be part of the top ATP 50... A big serve may not be enough to go beyond...
Thanasi only shows up in Adelaide haha
@@georgeplatis Beating an over-the-hill Roger Federer doesn’t mean anything. He just beat a guy who’s at the ‘prime’ of his life and he’s in the top 10. Now he knows ‘in his mind’ that he can beat anybody. He always had it, but he could never follow through because mentally he didn’t believe he could do it. But now that changed. All it takes is one match to elevate a player to the next level.
@@jpdrgvii6844 Well, it takes more than just a "big serve" to beat Rublev... so not sure what you're talking about? He has one of the most explosive games on the tour from the baseline (on both sides) but specially his forehand...
THANOS Kokkinakis! Let's goooo
Рублев, настоящий🙂👍
Rublev is not easy to beat or play. Well done by Thanasi. Thanasi game is also getting more refined.
Kokk has one of the best down the line backhands on the mens tour.
You put Davidovich vs Millman but not Kecmanovic vs Kubler
Imagine where would Kokk be now if he didnt had injuries
Or not trying to be Kyrgios
@@pastorofmuppets8834and got away from him
He didn’t have injuries last year and lost first round AO
bweh lliant from the kokk
The ATP man hug is soooo different from the WTA lady handshake post match lol.
its always great to see that lower ranked players are able to beat high rank players when they really want to
Indian Wells has a weird start date but i wish these tournaments had a better finish date like wednesday or thrusday final so that the top players take the pre tournament seriously. Kokkinakis plays well but then dissapears the rest of the year. Thats kind of cool but kind of frustrating
Rublev in some trouble mentally but still gracious in defeat 🙏
Kokinakkis is the best player of the Adelaide
0:10 why is this point the ball goes invisible when its near the net? interesting
MAGIC
Because of the shadows on the court
I feel that rublev relies too much on hiting forehands winners one after another to win his matches. When this is not working for one reason or another, he strugles.
Yes, it's been the same problem for a long time now, he doesn't work on building points, needs more variety- volleys, drop shots... Same is case with Shapovalov
they do seem very one dimensional
Dude's dangerous at home.
How wrong can one be! I thought Rublev would win
Rublev needs to improve mentally and add dimensions to his game if he is to get to the top. I don't see it happening.
The big problem with players like Rublev, who hit the ball very hard, the margin of error is very wide even losing the game completely as it happened here. Because let's not lie to each other Kokkinakis is not that he is the super dangerous player to be afraid of because that is not the case, simply that he took advantage of the other's mistakes, period!
Rublev in trouble
Does Rublev have a new clothing sponsor? I didnt see the nike logo. If yes, which one?
I'm surprised rublev isn't anymore sponsored by nike what is actually the new brand he's wearing ?
He has launched his own clothing brand called “Rublo”.
He recently announced his own brand. It's called Rublo
@@vasiliyk6775 that's actually great to see, that players are trying to create something themselves and promote it.
when U have no number and U beat the best tennis player enrolled on the tournament
I hate watching Rublo lose
Yeah, sometimes it's really paiful to watch, especially when he is trying to show his emotions on the court, his anger towards the way how he plays on the court when something hoes wrong and all of that. Good job Kokki for putting down a very serious opponent. 👍👍👏👏
@@vladyslavdiumin4124 they way he gets angry on court reminds me of murray
Kecmanović will beat Thanasi.
That will be a really good match. Looking forward to see it!👍👍😍😍
what happened with Andrey? Second loss this year! His game is getting boring with only heavy hitting shots in his arsenal, no diversity!
Hopefully, he will work on all the aspects of the game before the AO
Braindead take
How it is possible , than Kokki is not even top100?
he plays for a month. he shouldnt even be there!
Why thanasi is at this ranking ? He play top 30 easily
Hopefully he will be there asap!
Well played to Kokk but Rublev just played down bad...
You are totally right, the plays from Rublev are not promising enough, especially if you consider that he will be one of the top seeded players at the AO.
Kokonut is very delicious.
Too be honest Rublev was poor. But Kokk served well.
Мда...
Rublev please do well in a slam again, it’s been too long
Meh 💤💤💤💤
Sold!
Nah, I don't think so. Rublev is just not playing good enough at this point. I have fears that he will be eliminated early at this years AO. Hoping that he can improve his game drastically before the AO.
@@vladyslavdiumin4124 Уж очень подозрительны феерические выступления оззи дома из года в год
Very good Nike 😂 join the woke culture
为什么要害怕打出俄罗斯人的国旗?俄罗斯人并没有做错什么!也不是他们的国家做错什么?你要怪也只能怪普京而已!卢布列夫,你应该退出所有歧视你的比赛!
Andrei Rublev is representing his nation which is Russia...Why isnt the Russian National Flag displayed next to his name, is it because of the ongoing war bw Russia & Ukraine?
He is so overrated
am callign it, thanaser wins AO.
