- Here we go: the two-part Season finale of Mr. Robot opens with Elliot (Rami Malek) waking up in an alternate reality of Washington Township after the explosion at the power plant.
From Mr Robot Season 4 Episode 12 "Whoami" Elliot wakes up in an abandoned lot following the explosion at the Washington Township plant, which is no longer there. He discovers the town is a thriving suburbia, where his mother and father, both alive, live. He finds out that his parents never abused him as a child and that Darlene does not exist. He returns to the city, where he encounters Angela's parents, Emily and Phillip (the latter still being in Angela's life), and they reveal to him that Elliot is marrying Angela the following day. He goes to the alternate Elliot's apartment and hacks his computer, discovering a hidden drive of sketches of himself, Darlene, and the rest of fsociety. The alternate Elliot returns home to find the original Elliot at his iMac (as depicted at the end of the previous episode). Initially alarmed, the alternate Elliot explains that the sketches are of a persona he created that would lead an exciting life as a vigilante hacker, the very life the original Elliot lives. They touch, causing another earthquake, which severely injures the alternate Elliot. Alternate Elliot gets a call from Angela; hearing her for the first time since her death, the original Elliot decides that he can have the life he always wanted and kills the alternate Elliot.

I've watched this entire series front to back and back to front 4 times and there's ALWAYS something new to find every time. Like the one episode where literally the only dialogue is "it's okay we don't have to talk" in the beginning then at the end "okay let's talk" and the entire episode in between there's not one word spoken and you don't even realize it.

I don't remember who says the "let's talk" at the end though but either way, brilliant.
The whole idea of this show being in a loop and a loop/alternate realities/multiverse theory playing out over 4 seasons is phenomenal. Sam is a genius

One of my absolute favorite episodes!
I'll never forget how freaked out I was when I saw this episode, the entire time I was like "NO WAY!!" All the build up lead to that one song Mr. Roboto!
Fun Fact: That song is quite literally the plot to this entire show and where Sam Sep got the idea from.

I thought that whiterose's plan really worked when I first watched this.
Esmail sold it so well I actually stopped watching because I didn't like how the plot went. Silly me when I eventually came back and saw the direct connection to season 1 episode 4...

Yes! this is also one of my favorite Mr.Robot opening credits sequences.
This is the best Back to the Future reference ever, I remember when i first saw it and i got so giddy to see how well it fits with Elliot's situation!

God I love this show. I don't watch any shows, but this one just hits different
I'll never forget watching this episode for the time, and it was on LSD, between this and the episode of Vera and his ending my brain was just completely blown away.
Thinking deeply about the idea of an alternate reality, where (like Elliot) I'm some normie living in a nice studio apartment, with a nice job downtown, a FaceBook page where I put my entire life on display, a regular girlfriend and regular friends, going on vacations and to work parties and Thursday night trivia at the local bar, one where my parents stayed together and things just seemed to 'work out' regularly, one where politicians and members of government aren't nefariously plotting to advance their station and make things worse for the bug people (aka us), it definitely made for some of the most compelling and harrowing entertainment media I'll ever consume in my life 👌
Though I must say, the freakiest part of it all was all the parallels between the show and our.reality itself.
I'm waiting for the last scene with darlene, it's my favorite in s4

only just thought, this reminds me heavily off the scene from back to the future when Marty first sees Hill Valley in 1955, especially at 2:41 when Elliot walks past a clock tower just like Marty did
That's the purpose of this set. Because Elliots favourite movie is Back to the Future, so it's nice to see his mind space be a reminiscent reminder of his favourite movie.
Right? It is SO hill valley 1955 mr sandman kid-on-hoverboard happy policeman just needs a car to almost bump into him but it's all there :D

Ngl at first I thought the same, but then on rewatch I thought it was perfect for what Elliot's been through. You realize the show is not so much about defeating White Rose and the Elites, as much as it is about Elliot defeating himself and learning to love himself.
