I live out in the country in central Illinois. When we lose our power, and that can be two or three times a year, it can be anywhere from several hours to several days. We are set up so we can generate our own electricity from a gas generator during the day and a solar generator at night. During winter we also have a wood burning stove that heats the entire house. I always make sure I start winter with a few cords of wood and a couple hundred gallons of gas. We’ve been doing this for a long time and works great; especially now with the solar generator!

I live on an acreage in Maine I bought eight years ago. It is 3.5 acres mostly covered in trees, a three-bedroom home and there is an independent well. After walking the property before I bought it, I envisioned what I wanted to do on it to basically survive if when things deteriorated. I have built a greenhouse and generator shed. I insulated it last week to reduce the noise. My driveway is 380 feet long. When I stood at the end of it, I could barely hear the generator running. Noise can attract people. I intend to add another for backup and build a hazmat shed next year for a large amount of fuel. I will be adding a chicken coop next year and plant more fruit trees. I believe next year will be the very beginning edge of a decade long very severe depression worse than the 1930s. President Trump is not going to be a miracle worker. There are too many overwhelmingly large global issues he can do little about. He is going to be fought every inch every day no matter what he intends to do. The only thing I can do is to prepare the best I can to survive it which is why I bought this acreage. It's going to be a struggle, but I have a better chance here than midtown urban living.

@ charge it during the day the day and use it at night so the gas generator gets a break!

We’re well e without power for 10 days a few years ago we lost everything in two chest type freezers and the one in the fridge! I’m not ready to lose that much again but I guess we don’t have any choice. But that’s life! We can’t afford a generator!

When I lost power for 3 days I learned for those cold nights cook on the grill and have a nice size pot with open lid and boil water in it and be4 you head inside have a candle or 2 and stick them under the water pot and the water will boil all night long and that will make hot steam to keep your room toasty all night long

Something as simple as wearing a hat or something over your head can be the best way to keep your body warm. Dont sweat or you will be in a nightmare realm. You can heat up water with tea lights. Stay in one small room to keep it warm and close off any drafts that are trying to come in from under a door or window. Fill a hot water bottle too if you have one they can really help to heat you up in bad situations. Have a tent handy to set up in you're small room, that is even more heat. Plan Plan Plan! Better to have these things and not need them.

😮 How do you know there is going to be power outages? Why were there none last year? Or the year before that? How did anyone know two years ago this winter there was going to be 90 day black outs. To many countries including our own are playing with the weather ☁️🌡️
