Thanks for the video content! Forgive me for butting in, I would appreciate your initial thoughts. Have you researched - Fiyiden Seyatthew Blaster (search on google)? It is a great exclusive product for starting a laptop repair business minus the normal expense. Ive heard some super things about it and my friend Sam at very last got amazing results with it.
You are still required to have a business license for a Sole Proprietorship. If you sell taxable products, you ALSO need a sales tax Id from your state. This isn't accurate. If you are making money and you are not an employee, you are a business and need a license. Of course, each state and county has different laws.
Definitely depends on the business and best to hire a local tax person, for sure! I'm not a tax professional nor am I a lawyer!! Julie may be, she seems to get it! In most areas, it is possible to start an affiliate marketing or services business super easy.... But again, I'm just a marketer.
What if you're a young adult and you don't know what all you need to start selling on shopify? I want to start my worldwide business. I'm a 19 year old female
Awesome video. I always wondered how these guys were always like, "I started ANOTHER business today!" Did they have to file for another license for each business? I guess I was just making it more complex than it needed to be.
Ya, technically you can start selling services as you... Called a sole proprietor. But you can also start a corp. That acts like a parent company.... And multiple merchant accounts/stripe accounts that flow through to the 1 corp acct. The trick is to get $$$$ coming in for sure! I was a sole proprietor for several years.
I love how clear, concise, and quick to the point you are! Super helpful information. Many thanks!! Quick question: I have a shopify account in which I have aliexpress and print-on-demand products dropshipped from their linked suppliers. Is this something I can legally continue doing as a sole proprietor until my income increases? I also haven't trademarked my "brand name", but am using a brand name I made up for the online business front. But on the backend, it's all under my name. Is this something I could get in trouble for, or is that actually how a lot of people do it starting out?
Glad you like the direct approach... Quick answer: I don't know for sure... If you are accepting payments directly and then you go re-buy the product elsewhere your county/state/city MAY require you to account for 'Gross Receipts Tax' or something similar... Which is a tax on all items sold. But your county/city/state may only require that for sales from people IN your state... IF your transactions are all handled by other providers and you simply receive a 1099 from that provider, and no direct payments from the customer (Many print on demand systems operate like this) there is a much higher likelihood that are good to keep moving forward as a sole proprietor. Best thing is to find a local CPA who can help you understand your local laws!
I’ve just started an online Shopify that has products coming from AliExpress just like this young lady has. She has asked the right questions that I had as well. Thank you for sharing your answer. Sole proprietor is the way to go for now and opening a separate bank account.
I absolutely Love this very informative video. You really broke all the steps to running a business to it's most simplest form which made everything easy for Me to understand. Thank You so much for sharing Your incredible expertise in this department. I wish You continued Success in the Ventures that You proceed.
I’m from CA. Starting a business selling a small patented hair dryer attachment I invented on eBay or a site. Do I need a business license or permit? What path would you take?
Thank you sir -- WILL use this as a reference. Best of luck to you in your own business ventures. Wealth + Prosperity + Abundance ---> Heading our way :)
there is a lot of confusion about this. Some say, you need a business license when you sell products or services online. Others say you dont. when u are drop shipping, u r reselling products online, then should you pay biz license in that case? may be for affiliate marketing stuff u just need w9 because u are not reselling but sending potential buyers
Now, I'm not an expert on this as I don't sell physical products or do dropshipping... But I think the big question is who manages the checkout process... When you manage that you become responsible, but like you mentioned for affiliates, you just direct traffic and receive a 1099 for commissions you generate, so very different compared to 'selling things' That said, you need to find someone local as every state/county/country can be different!!!!
For a fact every state within in the us doesn't offer it. If you have a legal structure that's where your ein number will come in handy. If you absolutely need it even with your ein apply for it with a diff state
That was alot of helpful advice, I'm bout to start my online business selling shirts...well I have the online store up already just haven't set up the payment part and actually started selling

It is an awesome exclusive guide for starting your own successful handyman business minus the normal expense. Ive heard some super things about it and my friend at last got excellent results with it.
It says in my state that I need to file with the Dpt of State for a business license to sell anything online and pay a fee. Guess I’m in the worst place to start a business
I have a market place for anglers to sell their bait and lures, do I need a business license? I'm not selling anything. its just a website for others to sell and I get 15% commission of every item sold.
I want to create a website offering a service similar to what clickbank is offering and other people will also earn money from my website by referring companies to list their products on my website or by using the affiliate links we generate for their blogs. What licenses do I need? Please also tell me how to get them. I'm lost
So open up a new Bank Account with another Bank, then IF I decide to use a PayPal Account with some vendor or online payment method I associate that new Bank Account I just created with a PayPal Account? That seems legit! Thank you
It depends on who is managing the transaction and the customer.. whether you are getting a 1099 or whether you are the merchant themselves and what the local laws are in your city and county and State
Do you live in California, or know about what to do with the changes that happened recently with freelancers? I am trying to get more information, I don't think we are allowed to do 1099's anymore, from the sounds of it, people are saying that they really screwed things up and made it harder and more expensive for freelancers. Any info from you or anyone else who might be so kind to chime in would be extremely helpful to me and I'm sure others! Thank you!
Fantastic information and professionally presented! Suggestion though, maybe try stepping a foot or so back, or not so wide angle lens. Gives a kind of fisheye look and makes me feel claustrophobic like someone who talks to you too close, haha. Just my thoughts however.
to use paypal as a payment gateway to receive international payments to south africa, you are required to show them your business registration documents....so....what now
With those two things you should be able to start a bank account and you simply need to check with your local county and city to find out if there's any other licenses required

Hi! So I’m trying to start a clothing brand by using printful printing services and selling it on my own website. What would I need to do? I know it depends state by state but what’s the basic things that you assume that I would need to do legally?
I believe it depends most on who is managing the transaction. Does printable send you a 1099 if you allow them to manage the transaction question if so I believe you are just a contractor… But of course, you need to talk to a professional for professional insights. I'm just guy on UA-cam who has no clue what is talking about
so this is only true if you receiving paypal payments? is the sales limit true for crrdit card payments you receive? do u need to track sales tax? on paypal or ctedit card payments less than $20000 a year?
What about starting a website to sell actual product, such as I make realistic dolls and right now I sell on eBay? Would I just file a W9 if I created a website?
If you sell on eBay then it is PayPal who would 'report' your earnings... but only if you do 200 transactions or $20,000 in revenue. www.paypal.com/us/selfhelp/article/How-does-PayPal-report-my-sales-to-the-IRS-Will-I-receive-a-1099-tax-statement-FAQ729 This means, you would 'self report' and just track your income up to this point and have your tax person add it on a Schedule C... This also means you get all the tax deductions associated with running your store (internet, home office, etc) and the products you create. A simple spreadsheet or ledger of revenue and costs is enough. Highly recommend finding and talking with a local tax person if you don't already have one... I'm not a tax person and every city/state/county can be a bit different. Just trying to give you a general idea. And... Since it is the beginning of the year... Don't hesitate on selling your items before you 'understand' all this tax stuff... Just get going, get some sales coming in and then talk to a tax person mid year.
honestly it depends on how you are selling. If it is through etsy or something like that where they actually handle the transaction, probably not. best bet is to find a local tax person who can help you know for sure

Yes because it is a business selling a product
got a lot of my questions answer here. Thanks, what about if you dont want to use your social security and use a tax id would that work too.
This is one of the biggest benefits of a corp or llc! Getting that EIN
I agree Affiliate Marketing is like an independent contractor then anything.
So in terms of drop shipping, does this apply? no business license needed? even if I have a "brand" name for my Instagram/shopify store?
I'm not sure, find a loal CPA to help!

Kind of depends on who manages the transaction... If you sell via etsy or ebay probably not.
are your busisness expences still tax deductable if you don't form an LLC?

If you sell on eBay then it is PayPal who would 'report' your earnings... but only if you do 200 transactions or $20,000 in revenue. www.paypal.com/us/selfhelp/article/How-does-PayPal-report-my-sales-to-the-IRS-Will-I-receive-a-1099-tax-statement-FAQ729
This means, you would 'self report' and just track your income up to this point and have your tax person add it on a Schedule C... This also means you get all the tax deductions associated with running your store (internet, home office, etc) and the products you create. A simple spreadsheet or ledger of revenue and costs is enough.
