Whiskey In The Jar
I distinctly remember going to see some friends performing on St. Pat's inside an Irish pub some years back. The place was absolutely packed and the crowd was noisy and drunk, as you would expect a pub crowd to be on a St. Pat's evening. My friends were on the stage playing and singing "Whiskey In the Jar" as loudly as possible to be heard over the crowd chatter.
When they finished and the applause ended my friend asked if there were any song requests, to which somebody in the crowd immediately and loudly requested, "Whiskey in the Jar!" I'll never forget the sad look of defeat on my friend's face as he said, "Ok... we just did that one... for the third time... so let's do something else first, then we'll do Whiskey in the Jar again!"
Moral of the story: be kind to Irish musicians on St. Pat's Day, no matter how much we all love hearing "Whiskey in the Jar" one more time... (lol)
