  • Leicester-born opera singer Lucy Kay sings Nessun Dorma for the Britain's Got Talent 2014 final.
The opera star, who was born in Braunstone Frith, gave it her all -but her passion for classic music was only enough to see her to second place.

In all aspects of life....rules are made to be broken. In this one instant....Lucy changed the rules. I don't need to explain. Wonderful job Lucy...love you!

Lucy sings so beautifully and carelessly. As Bruno says…”She sings like an angel 😇!” I don’t know what kind of mean people she was trying to get away from but how ANYONE could be mean to that beautiful Stunning LADY is beyond me. And yes I said Lady because there is a huge difference between a woman and a lady. A lady carry’s herself high and tall with dignity and respect and that is Ms Lucy!!!!! I hope she has went far in this world!!!!!❤

These armchair "experts" that say Lucy isn't an Opera singer and she shouldn't be singing this because its a male part just dont get it, not only is Lucy's voice pleasing to the ear is only part of it, it pleases my heart with is the most important,I get shivers,El Duende in Spanish.
When the impressionist painters first appeared they were ridiculed just because it wasn't done in the classical style, now their work fetches millions because there is magic in the paintings, likewise there is magic in Lucys singing ,which the buying public will endorse I'm sure.
At the end of the day if something brings ultimate pleasure then it doesn't matter how its produced.
Not only is Lucy nice to listen too shes beautiful to look at......

If there was no Collaboro, Lucy would have won that night.

She sang wonderfully. But so did Collabro. And I love BAM. It was a tough decision. All three acts were winners.

I criticized her wide vibrato but I have learned to live with it because she likely will not change it, or maybe she can't change it. Now I concentrate on her incredibly warm, dark Mezzo tone and timbre(reminds me of another Soprano who has risen to stardom-Pretty Yende). You don't hear a Soprano sing like Lucy does very often. Every note is touched with absolutely no scooping up a half-tone to it. She is on pitch every time.
As truncated as this performance was(limited to 1:30), she totally DOMINATED the aria with her power. In fact the only male singer I've heard sing it with that much power was Maestro Pavarotti himself.
I know I sound selfish now but I really hope she doesn't go into opera as her profession because that would take all her time away from Classical singing.

Reported for false thumbnail. If the video is cropped by applying windowbox, don't edit the thumbnail to remove that and suggest it is full screen.

+Lance Baker If you bother to actually watch the video, you will see that it changes from windowbox effect to full screen at 1.09. This is how it was originally broadcast. Perhaps you should complain to ITV! You then put a link to the official version, which is all in full screen. However; the official version starts at the point, where my video goes to full screen!
