Sarah Burns Studios has great videos on how to care for this palette and how she uses it for her gouache painting practice. She also talks about the clove bud oil and how you don't spray after every use and to spray a tiny amount and whatnot.
I moved some Himi gouache into my palette like this so I didn't have to open the big box all the time. I just spray some alcohol on it after I use it and I've been good so far. The paints have stayed moist but not moldy. I'm happy to see you endorse Holbein. I want to move on from the Himi to Holbein eventually.
That's good to hear about the alcohol trick because that's my plan too! I think you will really enjoy the Holbein gouache, they are a lot of fun to work with!
Shana, your Sunflower painting is so pretty, I love it. I hope you don't experience mold issues with your travel palette like Miranda (Alkali Creek) has been having. She has been having a mold issue with her M. Graham gouache in her travel palette, but not her Holbein gouache.
Thank you! I wonder if that's who I saw that had that same issue, though her name doesn't sound familiar to me. I will have to check out her channel! I don't foresee myself having any issues with the Holbein paint, especially since they aren't full of fillers. Only time will tell though, fingers crossed!
Okay, I just checked, and it IS Miranda whose video I saw! I don't know how her name slipped my mind, I'm subscribed to her! Thanks for mentioning it because I couldn't remember who it was when I did my voiceover, and I had watched a bunch of people's videos about this palette, lol.
@@CautionArtistatPlay You're welcome. I was worried that with her re-using the scooped out, moldy paint, that there might be residual, microscopic mold spores in her paint and it would transfer to her sketchbook. I was getting ready to make a comment about to her my fear when I saw someone else mention that same thing, where it did happen to this other UA-camr's sketchbook. Fingers crossed, hopefully yours will not produce any mold in it!
@Cheryl Yeah, I definitely wouldn't feel comfortable using the paint after it molded for the reasons you mentioned. Here's hoping it doesn't become an issue, I am so grossed out by mold, lol.
I don't think brands have anything to do with mold to be honest. I use a bunch of brands and I made a palette and my WnN black, Daler rowney payne's grey, Holbein Burnt Umber and Royal talens raw sienna grew mold. None of my other colors grew mold. I think it has more to do with contamination and the dark colors usually grow mold faster in my experience for some reason.
Hmm..that's interesting. Thanks for sharing your experience! I will have to keep an eye on things. I know different brands use different fillers, and I have heard that can also be a factor. I'm sure certain pigments can also mold more easily than others.
Do u think this could work with arcylic paint ??? What a niffy idea to have water container fit onto palette and it being collapsible.i love winter i think im a odd woman out...lol...mikelle art mom✍👩🎨🎨
I love your sunflower its really pretty, sunflowers remind me of my grandmother her dad immigrated to usa under stalin from Ukraine so sunflowers were always her favorite in her garden she plant them every year and plant marigolds also.....
Love the sunflower. I’m going to make a gouache palette of my favourite Gouache paints. Xx
Thank you! Having a gouache palette is so convenient!

It's always stressful to pour into your air tight palettes 😅😅 but honestly you will get used to it with time. The sunflower turned out so lovely 😍
Thank you!! It was definitely messy!

I have one of these paint pallets to and I think everyone makes the mistake of slightly overfilling them 😂. Oh well, a little chaos is fine.
😂😂😂
Love it!!!
Thank you!

The listing on Amazon says it can be used for acrylics, so it should be fine! 😊

Thank you! I'm glad it brought back fond memories for you. I bet her garden was beautiful!
