As an American viewer, thank you for putting a spotlight on something from your home country. It's how I discovered shows like Aqua Teen, Home Movies, Clone High, Undergrads, Family Guy and even the Wrong Coast! Great job on this video my friend, you've done your country proud!
When they chose to bring back Clone High, for my money the biggest mistake by far was not trying to make the show into a straightforward dramedy, or getting rid of Gandhi, but instead letting it be put in the hands of Warner Bros in a post-Zaslav world. As a wise crab once said, “every sailor knows it means death!”

It’s a shame to check out something like Adult Swim on Canadian cable and for the most part it’s only Family Guy/King of the Hill reruns with the odd new show here and there - The Detour and Teletoon at Night and Adult Swim used to be the Wild West for new and exciting projects. Now you can’t even watch the Adult Swim catalogue in Canada because it’s only on Max in the US; even with a VPN you need a CC from the states to even pay for it. So unfortunate

While I am Canadian and remember the block very fondly, there was something similar to The Detour/Teletoon Unleashed, but it was its own channel. It was called Locomotion and it aired animation for young adults, as well as anime. It was partially owned by Corus Entertainment from 2001 to 2005. It aired in Latin America, although there was also a version in Spain and Portugal. There doesn't seem to be a lot of English language retrospectives on this channel, if at all. Another thing I would like to mention is that Teletoon Canada tried to launch a few channels in Canada, like Teletoon Adult, Teletoon Multi, and Teletoon Pop. Great video! As someone not from Canada and who until now never heard of The DETOUR programming block, I can say that this was an amazing deep-dive into something exclusive to Canadian tv and hearing someone talk with so much love for Cybersix really made my day. And if I found out about The DETOUR through you'll video, I'll share a late-night programming block from my country as well. In Romania we never had any Adult Swim and only had Teletoon for like 3 years or so, so instead adult animation, anime and teen cartoons found their home on the channel Animax. Despite it being named the same as the Japanese, Indian, Chinese, African and other countries' versions of the block/channel, Romania's Animax was its own beast. Basically Animax would start at 8 at night and would be on until like 5 in the in the morning and would show cartoons like TMNT 2003, Batman Beyond, Ben 10 Alien Force and Megas XLR, adult cartoons like the Boondocks or the Venture Bros., some early 2000s reality tv from the US and of course a bunch of anime from well-known ones like Naruto, One Piece, Bleach or Detective Conan to more obscure ones like Lovely Complex, Vampire Knight or Slayers. It also had its own identity in the bumpers and ads, everything about the channel having this futuristic blue and gray hue and feel to it. Besides the stuff gotten from other countries, Animax would also show some original Romanian content like Comic Con coverages and whatnot alongside a few dubbed anime and cartoons(the channel mostly had subtitles not in-house dubs) like Justice League, Hello Kitty and weirdly enough FMA 2003. The block was a thing from 2005 all the way to 2014 when it was taken away from Romanian audiences because apparently some parents and government official had many issues with it and they banned not only Animax for good but also anime and adult cartoons in general for like 4 years. Still got no replacement or revival for the block after nearly 10 years. Anyways, I enjoyed the video and I hope I made you discover a late night animation programming block you never heard of before just like you made me discover The DETOUR after never hearing about it until now. Have a nice day!
I was 10 when Teletoon launched, and seeing the channel die and relaunch as Cartoon Network Canada has really made me appreciate how eclectic it was during its early years. There were some American CN imports and old Hanna-Barbera stuff, but there were also a lot of Canada-Europe co-productions and whole half-hour blocks of shorts from the National Film Board of Canada. For as many animated series as there are nowadays, you can't deny how similar most of them look aesthetically. Stuff on Teletoon back in the day varied wildly in terms of look and tone.
This block was a past my time, I do remeber watching cyber six years later on teletoon before night block, I grew up in teletoon Fred era with frutrama on loop every night them showing movies like watchmen and lord of the rings.
Those Night Planet bumpers just unlocked a core memory in me that I completely forgot. I used to see bits and pieces of them whenever I either snuck out to play N64 or got up too early for school and they always scared the hell out of me.
There's three memories I'll always have with Teletoon's TAN block; Watching an episode of Man vs. Cartoon, the Canadian premiere of Futurama's previous finale "Meanwhile", and an uncensored broadcast of South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut on December 2017. I honestly find it a downer that Man vs. Cartoon is currently lost media, even with its 6-episode run, as I remember liking the one episode I watched, yet currently the only stuff I could find of it was mentions of its American run on TruTV, an unfinished trailer for the series and a single episode dubbed in Hungarian. I guess also technically there's the "Action" channel that the Canadian [adult swim] channel replaced on Shaw satellites, but that felt only slightly connected. I still remember that their first broadcast during that switch was the Season 3 premiere of Rick and Morty; I think the shows I watched on there the most in its first year was Space Ghost, Harvey Birdman, ATHF, Robot Chcken, King of the Hill, and Family Guy, both the newer and older episodes. I also watched Samurai Jack on there from time-to-time, but not as often. But for ol' At Night, I also watched Family Guy and Robot Chcken on there, along with Futurama, Man vs. Cartoon, and The Cleveland Show. Or at least, those are the shows I remember watching on there, referencing Wikipedia's list of the block's programs. If there was any moment where I watched say, 2 Nuts and a Richard, I couldn't remember a minute of it.
You just unlocked a memory: my first exposure to Futurama was ass crack early morning right before school, I turned on Teletoon and was greeted with the superhero episode of Futurama (the worst episode of the FOX run) but it peaked my interest
Thank you for covering this big part of my childhood! Quite a few of these shows were vague memories for a long time before slowly finding out about them again on the internet. I had a vague memory of seeing Delta State as a kid and not understanding what was going on at all, haha. I re-watched the first episode way later, and loved it! A wonderful video! Thank you so much for it!
The only show a remember form the detour is Rick and Steve. Sadly a was born 2003 so a don’t remember watching those shows but my mom told me and my sister that we watched a lot of these shows like Daria, King of the Hill, Captains Star, John Callahan's Quads and many more. Yes a do HATE peoples using the Teletoon at night/Télétoon la nuit name all the time because the name was used in 2011-onwards era of the block which it bothered me a lot to this very day. The Detour/Le Détour need more recognition as the best era of the block. I am a francophone myself so i watch Télétoon all the time when i was younger, it was my favorite channel. Fun fact: do you know there is a Quebec version of Fred at Night call Slaque la Cravate (the name sounds better in French than the English one). Yes i am aware that English Teletoon been replaced by Cartoon Network. It’s sucks that anglophone will no longer experience Teletoon anymore but the French one still exists 😢. Go check The Detour on UA-cam YT channel there are a lot of amazing things in his community post about earlier versions of Teletoon/Detour/Retro 2007 logo. Teletoon is named Chuck (yes that’s is name of the logo am not joking) Nice work btw 👍.
I love learning more about Canadian television and animation especially since I have little to no exposure to them. I also gotta admit your comedic timing with some of those jokes is some of your best yet!
You’ve surprised me with some of the Canadian shows you’ve consumed that I didn’t think anyone but me did (Polka Dot Shorts comes to mind). And yeah, I felt pretty good about my jokes this time - glad others did too!
Oh man the detour as a Canadian living in the UK this was so needed lol I miss the old Canadian tv shows my daughter watched this with me and now I have to find all of these shows for her lmao also did you work on ytv or somthing? You sound so much like one of the hosts from back in the day it's got me so nostalgic! Keep up the awesome videos my man!
Thank you 😂 I’ve been wondering why there was nothing about detour compared to adult swim on here but if you ask anyone in person it’s just “Oh yeaaaa Detour”
Oh my, I remember Delta State because it aired in here Finland. As soon those triangle noses came in your video, I recognized the show right away. Also, I had to pause when Undegrads voices credits came and the first name is Yannick Bisson, the main actor of Murdoch Mysteries was one VAs on that series?!
Hearing you go off on a goofy, national pride, back in my day rant. Was something I didn’t know would have me laughing in front of people in public. While I had one headphone in my ear, working XD People asked me what was so funny and all I could say was. You wouldn’t get it

Fantastic video I love undergrads and hopefully that new movie gets a sponsor someday Everyone in this show is great especially nitz who i consider to be like an older doug funnie Clone high is a classic and while it sucked that it got canned again, its still great
I remember detour was how I was exposed to Futurama! What a great time that was! And then tripping the rift came on. And then I was confused ALSO FUCK YEAH CYBERSIX! I FUCKING LOVE THIS SHOW! Catching this show as a kid was a treat!
There actually is a 3 part telethon retrospective. He covered detour and 3 shows specifically. But this is great, thank you. Undergrads is one I still rewatch to this day.
That was an Unleashed retrospective, and with all due respect, that mainly covered the shows and hardly the block itself (believe me when I say I looked around for anything resembling a retrospective). But I'm glad you enjoyed this video!
Thank you so much for this. I fondly remember all of these, except for Delta State which I guess I didn't give a fair chance! I might do that. I'd appreciate if you talked about Quads!/Pelswick, John Calahan seemed like an interesting guy, and one who I appreciate for being a disabled creator who was a disability advocate.
Dude this video is so cool, these shows look so unique from one another, the only show from the video i know was clone high, but the others interest me enough to watch them, great job!
I remember being 6 and watching spider-man on Teletoon Unleashed!! Before they really started splitting things up by genre with Teletoon Retro and all that. Once The Detour started, they moved my boi spidey into a block in the evening with bugs bunny lol didn’t see spidey for a bit there
WELL EXCUUUUUUUUUUUUSE ME! I just wanted to enjoy some nostalgia from the good old days and I can’t even get one minute in without being SHIT ON! I will defeat Tenacious D and restore the power of classic rock! There are you happy NOW?
Really Sucks Teletoon Got Rid Of The Detour/ Teletoon At Night Block A Few Years Ago Along With Teletoon Retro 😢. Then Rebranded To CN Canada. I Also Remember Teletoon Unleashed!. Man I'm Old😅
While i have never seen any of those shows because i was never born in Canada (i was born in Mexico), i did manage to catch some of this shows thanks to them airing on adult swim blocks, althrough i never saw them because i felt weird looking at them but i did catch shows like Clone High and The Undergrads...also i need to have Delta State inside my veins right now!
I grew up on Teletoon through the late 2000's early 2010's and it was a mixed bag, and got worse as I kept watching due to all the shows being added that were only made to fill a quota. I liked early teletoon retro with Transformers and looney toons and later Teletoon at night with futurama, undergrads and fearless fred. Adult swim Canada seems to follow the same trend as teletoon with old Canadian shows and quota fillers among a sea of family guy, american dad and king of the hill, with it only really getting good after midnight.
hey, just wanted to compliment your vid, friend^-^ idk if it was part of the detour, but this show called "station x" i find is super similar in difficulty trying to find. also reminds of delta state for like, 12 yr olds lol, as i was maybe 10/11 ish at the time, thing is; it was probably like 7 minutes of animation an episode? they would be split up with music videos and short lil .. vinuettes? ...ik i spelt that wrong but, its actually how i got introduced to some great music like pretty far out post grundgey alt rock kinda stuff like peaches. if anyone else remembers this show, knows of it being archived anywhere, or actually is trying.to even, i have maybe 3 episodes i ripped off my.old vhs collection so🤷♀️ idk lmao, i used to love that show. guess how many episodes.-_- yep. GREAT VID goodjobgoodjob, :3 just wanted to show some love🩵🩵☮️
Ill be honest I never grew up watching TV late at night and when I did it was always Nick@Nite or The Splat (basically a 90's Nick nostalgia block) as my parents didn't want me watching adult cartoons (in fact outside of some UA-cam clips I had little experience with Adult Animation till the 2020's)
Bro, THANK YOU! The Detour was a staple in my childhood, it holds a very special place in my heart. Especially during the era of the bumpers with the guy on the motor scooter with his gas guzzling robo dog! & I HATE when people bring up Teletoon At Night but brush over The Detour too! 🫡
This was so interesting, thanks for this retrospective on something that not many people outside of Canada know much about! I've heard of Cyber Six before online but forgot all about it until now, and comparing Delta State to Scooby-doo: Mystery Inc is an instant sell to me. I gotta check out both!
Fascinating stuff about Animax - might check out some bumpers here and there. And I’m glad you enjoyed the video, too!
We're very lucky that we got the late night block first before Cartoon Network got it.
Cool to see a new cartoon gamer video, especially after my trip to Canada last month.
I wish more UA-camrs talked about non-American TV channels and what they offered, cause this vid was pretty cool!
Honestly you were right about the retrospectives all looking and feeling the same and honestly I’m tired of it too
great vid! enjoyed those adult swim retrospectives and was hoping i'd see something similar teletoon based
Damn this video is just my childhood in one place and I love it, Thanks for putting this together for the nastolgia man
@@BadmanReviews Least I can do!
I have soooooo much nostalgia for detour but nobody I know remembers it
Thank you for covering this big part of my childhood!
Glad you enjoyed it! Means a lot to hear!
It is refreshing seeing some sort of tv noustalgia from television outside of america, especially canada's Teletoon.
Glad I found this video, all the shows I grow up with watching and recording on VHS tapes.
Teletoon is named Chuck (yes that’s is name of the logo am not joking)
Nice work btw 👍.
While I had one headphone in my ear, working XD
People asked me what was so funny and all I could say was. You wouldn’t get it
@@MrGamerofmusic Was that before or after I yelled “I’m sick of it”?
@@TheCartoonGamer8000The part that really got me laughing. Was when you called out other Canadian content creators for not expressing nostalgia for Canadian show blocks! Because I get it. Every American, millennial, nostalgia content creator. Has had their Toonami/Adult Swim video
@@MrGamerofmusic I was tired of screaming into the void, so I'm glad that got ya.
Bromwell High in my view is Mr. Birchum done right
the guy on the scooter was "ICONIC" ... it also exsistd in french on french teletoon
Dumb American teenager here, Growing up in the digital age, while a lot of things I'm not huge on, I'm glad I can find Canada's animation, recently watched undergrads, and I do eventually wanna watch Delta State, a lot of your Canadian TV videos have helped me as a child, and younger, your voiced is edged in my mind (prob from the earthworm Jim video), Im darn excited for more stuff you make so thanks.
I'm glad to hear you're giving it a chance!
Yeah, these shows were the ones that defined our childhood than what kids are watching today. Total nostalgia dude.
Fantastic video
I love undergrads and hopefully that new movie gets a sponsor someday
Everyone in this show is great especially nitz who i consider to be like an older doug funnie
Clone high is a classic and while it sucked that it got canned again, its still great
I remember detour was how I was exposed to Futurama! What a great time that was!
And then tripping the rift came on. And then I was confused
ALSO FUCK YEAH CYBERSIX!
Here's Another Blast From Canadian Past, BIONIX On YTV
Hell yeah Delta State!
Memories
Delta state I always assumed was connected to a scanner darkly. Another movie I saw late night on teletoon.
thanks mate for covering this as i was about to cover this but i no longer have too
I'm amazed cybersix got reran like that in canada
Thank you so much for this. I fondly remember all of these, except for Delta State which I guess I didn't give a fair chance! I might do that.
I'd appreciate if you talked about Quads!/Pelswick, John Calahan seemed like an interesting guy, and one who I appreciate for being a disabled creator who was a disability advocate.
Yeah, Callahan was quite the individual. I don’t know if I’ll ever talk about Quads though - might be a bit too “adult” for my channel.
Man what a trip back. I watched Teletoon religiously starting in 98. I do not remember DBZ on it at all. Crazy
I know, right? Feels weird thinking it was on anything other than YTV.
Dude this video is so cool, these shows look so unique from one another, the only show from the video i know was clone high, but the others interest me enough to watch them, great job!
@@wills2894 Nice - mission accomplished!
Man I'm Old😅
While i have never seen any of those shows because i was never born in Canada (i was born in Mexico), i did manage to catch some of this shows thanks to them airing on adult swim blocks, althrough i never saw them because i felt weird looking at them but i did catch shows like Clone High and The Undergrads...also i need to have Delta State inside my veins right now!
cyber 6… my beloved
I grew up on Teletoon through the late 2000's early 2010's and it was a mixed bag, and got worse as I kept watching due to all the shows being added that were only made to fill a quota.
I liked early teletoon retro with Transformers and looney toons and later Teletoon at night with futurama, undergrads and fearless fred. Adult swim Canada seems to follow the same trend as teletoon with old Canadian shows and quota fillers among a sea of family guy, american dad and king of the hill, with it only really getting good after midnight.
hey, just wanted to compliment your vid, friend^-^
idk if it was part of the detour, but this show called "station x" i find is super similar in difficulty trying to find.
also reminds of delta state for like, 12 yr olds lol, as i was maybe 10/11 ish at the time,
thing is; it was probably like 7 minutes of animation an episode?
they would be split up with music videos and short lil .. vinuettes? ...ik i spelt that wrong but,
its actually how i got introduced to some great music like pretty far out post grundgey alt rock kinda stuff like peaches.
if anyone else remembers this show, knows of it being archived anywhere, or actually is trying.to even, i have maybe 3 episodes i ripped off my.old vhs collection so🤷♀️
idk lmao, i used to love that show.
guess how many episodes.-_-
yep.
GREAT VID goodjobgoodjob,
:3 just wanted to show some love🩵🩵☮️
Ill be honest I never grew up watching TV late at night and when I did it was always Nick@Nite or The Splat (basically a 90's Nick nostalgia block) as my parents didn't want me watching adult cartoons (in fact outside of some UA-cam clips I had little experience with Adult Animation till the 2020's)
Also deltaville is just muw perfect
Man i wish america had this 😭
Shit that’s memory l’Ain right here

Its great seeing a candian perspective on these cartoons since most western animation discourse is so US centric
Does anyone remembers Tripping The Rift?
Bro, THANK YOU! The Detour was a staple in my childhood, it holds a very special place in my heart. Especially during the era of the bumpers with the guy on the motor scooter with his gas guzzling robo dog! & I HATE when people bring up Teletoon At Night but brush over The Detour too! 🫡
@@thejahni Ah, I’m glad you enjoyed this one, Jahni! I had to do a service for all my Canadian bretheren with this video, for the sake of history!
This was so interesting, thanks for this retrospective on something that not many people outside of Canada know much about! I've heard of Cyber Six before online but forgot all about it until now, and comparing Delta State to Scooby-doo: Mystery Inc is an instant sell to me. I gotta check out both!
Barely related, but where in the world have I seen that Teletoon logo in my life? Must've been an original show for the channel that was brought over here at some point (to Finland)...
Haha, I'm glad I kept in that line comparing it to Mystery Incorporated - I wracked my brain on whether I should axe it or not, but I'm glad it's sold you on Delta.
And yeah, it's likely you saw it on an imported show. Not sure what, though.
Len's son is a legend for getting his exec dad to do that
Good work!
I had forgotten all about The Delta State. I'm going to have to track down some videos.
Check out the channel Retro Rerun - the whole series is up there.
Cybersix would have been a great action based Nicktoon
Lucas in cybersix was one of my awakenings to realize I also liked men, especially when he became a werewolf
ytv had late night shows too and some anime
good stuff ! im canadian, loved it
I know it wasn't on Detour, but Sons of Butcher will always be kino to me
It was, though!
@@TheCartoonGamer8000 Future topic? Dude who created the show did a lot of stuff on Newgrounds. Think he even worked with Tom Fulp on a game!
