  • Hari Om!
Upadesha Sāra is a very comprehensive yet compact text of 30 verses composed by Bhagavān Ramana Maharshi giving seekers the essence of the advice of a spritual teacher to his student. What led to it being composed and translated by Ramana Maharshi is in itself an interesting story.
The talk begins with the invocation verse which is a humble and sweet prostration unto Bhagavān Ramana Maharshi, the liberated Saint.
Who are the seekers who will benefit most from the study of this text? Clue to the answer lies in yet another riveting and seemingly humourous incident from Shiva Purana, which is the joint līlā of Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. It is as if the Great Teacher chose to express Himself through this great teacher gifting the seekers the gist of all Sādhanās and Vedāntic Knowledge.
To further explain the eligibility aspect in Vedāntic texts (adhikāritva), Swāmī Aparājitānanda jī provides a deep, logical analysis of evolution of a jīva over innumerable births from tamas to rajas to sattva and beyond providing on one hand a psychological insight into the mind in the form of 'philosophy of happiness' and on the other, a wonderful study into the laws of Mother Nature . The flow of explanation is more engrossing than even a fairy tale.
Swāmījī makes it very clear why any advice should be interpreted with reference to the intended audience of that advice, otherwise it may defeat the very purpose of the advice.
Having said that, the first seemingly paradoxical verse is first put in the right context before explaining at length. The intended audience of this talk is the person who has reached the last lap of rajas.
Tune in to seven days of sheer bliss and blessings of the Almighty and Bhagavān Ramana Maharshi showering upon us through Swāmījī's talks, the beauty of which is indescribable!
