Thank you so much for posting this. I had the pleasure of animating Poseidon for roughly half his scenes, as well as the whales, manta rays, and sea turtles that bring him in. Animating to Jeremy Irons' voice is a treat. Fortunately, I was able to travel to Florida for a wedding and see this in person before they changed it. I was sad my kids could not see it on a recent visit to the park.
You are very welcome! I'm sorry I didn't capture everything but I absolutely loved this show...You did an amazing job and I'm glad I have some sort of record of it to preserve its memory
Do you have details on the original script? Finding information on this version of the show is hard. Actually, I’ve been coming up with ideas for a spiritual successor to this attraction!
Thanks so much for uploading this, there was not very much of Jeremy Iron’s Poseidon on the promo that Universal released for Islands Of Adventure back in 1999, hearing more of his excellent performance makes me wish they had brought him back for some role in the revamp.
I truly thought this show was excellent, and granted we never met Poseidon till the end, Irons just brought gravitas to the role and made you believe in 1997 CGI lol.
This version is leaps and bounds better than the current version. This version feels so epic and intimidating. The dialogue in this version is so mysterious and evokes so much more of a creepy tone. I wish this version stayed it had so much more imagination and thought put into it.
I remember it taking me a few visits to finally figure out that during the black out at the end a wall and false ceiling would quickly be lowered into place to give the effect of being transported back into the room before the water tunnel. I remember thinking "how the Hell did we get back here?" Why do they always have to ruin the best versions of a ride? Kinda like Journey to Imagination at Disney. If it is wonderful - don't try to fix it.
I wish I was able to see this original version, I was born in 2000 so unfortunately the only version in my life span is the updated version. I think this one is just more exciting overall than the current version that exists, also I like the concept of the Keeper and I think the newer versions screen effects with people in cheesy costumes has actually aged worse than the CGI in the original. I also think the narration overall is a lot better in the original. It’s a shame that the original was mostly received bad bc they advertised it in a way that made people think it was a ride and not a show
@@1992disney Hi, thank you for you’re response. I actually did watch videos on it and I know /why/ people didn’t like it, though thank you for giving me more details. I just personally think it is better than the final version, even though it clearly had problems as you said. I wish there was a way they could’ve kept the original version but update it slightly to fix these issues, but perhaps they weren’t willing to because they felt like they couldn’t.

I love Poseidon’s Fury! And Universal just announced that they’re closing it forever, and I’m so sad about it. 😭 I miss the old Lost Continent. Such an integral part of my childhood.
Thanks for uploading this video. I actually miss seeing the original show sometimes. Especially since the original gave the whole "how did we get back to the second chamber?" feeling during my preteen years (until I figured it out after seeing the second version of this show).
So that main Poseidon was the first villain before the story was change and became a hero and that a new villain take his place. I did that attraction show in 2008 when poseidon was the hero I was there with my family when we went in vacation.
I can answer this because I got to see this version just once back in 2000. There was a light and steam effect that erupted under the audience's feet. The floor was completely stationary but the effect was very cool nonetheless.
I miss this attraction! It was always great to get out of the heat and sun. Also great for taking a break from all the thrill rides too. I always preferred this version over the changed one. Poseidon VS Zeus always made much more sense then Poseidon VS some random evil wizard.
Universal just keeps shooting themselves in every body part imaginable. Jaws...gone. Kongfrontation...gone. Earthquake/Disaster...gone. Twister...gone. Terminator...gone. Back to the Future...gone. Ghostbusters...gone. Backlot and tram tour...gone. Sinbad...gone. Dueling Dragons...gone. And now Poseidon's Fury...gone. The whole vibe of The Lost Continent in its heyday was incredible. You had Dueling Dragons with its marvelously themed Merlin/Arthurian queue. You had the Sinbad show, which was admittedly cheesy, but still fun. You had Mythos back when it was a "5-star" restaurant. You had the various Arabian shops and even a smattering of small magic shows. And then you had Poseidon's Fury version 1, which was SO SO much better than the Goddard-helmed retheme with Lord Darkenon, a low-rent comic-book villain which completely ruined the spirit of the attraction. Disney gets a lot of flak for not changing things up and riding on nostalgia, but Universal no longer has any nostalgia to provide a continuity of experience.

It’s a shame that Greek Mythology doesn’t get more representation in theme parks!
Ah, Jeremy Irons as Poseidon, a great actor, he was also the voice of Scar from Disney's 1994 movie The Lion King
He voiced another evil brother in a sibling rivalry
A sibling rivalry with an evil sibling voiced by Jeremy Irons? That sounds kinda familiar to what happened in The Lion King!
Except the good brother wins this time.
Sounded like Tim Curry's voice
That’s interesting because I thought it was Tony Jay. The guy who voiced Judge Frollo.

What was the sound followed by screaming at 9:17? Was there once a dropping floor effect like at Twister?
The final scene was all pyro and water effects going off, so I believe the water splashed into the audience at that point.
