Liu Kang became a god and was the one controlling the Hourglass at the end of Mk11 which is why he wasn't affected. He was the one who reset the timeline and the god who watches over and protects the realms. This is pretty much all we currently know about the story so far. Everything else is just theories, assumptions and speculation. Because as of right now absolutely no one knows what the story is or going to be. Shang T'sung may not even be the main antagonist/Main villain. Some one else might be. We just don't know yet.
There's also the potentiality that the Universe split in two, and Shang Tsung also became a god, and ended up controlling his own "The Hourglass". This would make him Liu Kang's rival. Neither one may have noticed the split since from either warrior's perspective, they won the final battle, and killed the other. However, Shang Tsung being Shang Tsung would've discovered the split before Liu Kang, and might've decided to pay a "visit". This doesn't necessarily mean he would be the main villain since we don't necessarily know the purpose of the visit. Although the trailer seems to imply that it's to wage war. What would drive a Shang Tsung to invade when he essentially has everything he's ever wanted in his own world? Pettiness is a possibility. Liu Kang humiliated him many times, and he just wants to hurt Liu some more, or wants to make sure Liu has nothing. Boredom perhaps? He's got everything he's ever wanted, but he's no longer satisfied, and wants more. Maybe something, or someone else is driving him, and that other thing is the true main villain. Like something that fucked him up in his own world, and now he wants to use Liu's world for the counterattack.

What Liu Kang did in the end has got to be one of the most badass fatalities ever. I hope they include it in the game. At first I thought i wasnt getting it because it's on newer consoles, but then I found out it's on Switch as well. That got my hopes up
In the first trailers from MK11 and MKX they ended with a fatality and the ones were also in the game. So... you can bet that this would be also one of Liu Kangs fatalities.

From what I'm hearing and getting from you two, You only played Mortal kombat 11 and not Mortal kombat aftermath wich was the follow up to Mk11. In aftermath there were two endings Liu Kang's ending and Shang T'sung ending. No one actually knew which ending was canon. In Liu Kang's ending he went back in time to the era of a character known as The Great Kung Lao who was a Mortal kombat tournament champion 500 hundred years before the very first mortal kombat game. The great Kung Lao was then killed by Goro in the next tournament and Goro was then the Mortal kombat champion for the next 500 hundred years, winning 9 straight Mortal kombat tournaments and just needed to win one more tournament for shao khan to invade and take over the earth and merge it with his realm of outworld increasing his power. This then leads us to the very first Mortal kombat game where Liu Kang defeated Goro ending outword's 9 straight Mortal kombat tournament wins which meant Shao khan needed to win another 10 straight Mortal kombat tournaments to take over the earth or Earth realm as they call it in the Mortal kombat universe. In Shang T'sung ending, He killed Liu Kang then taking control of the hour glass and Also he had kronica's crown increasing his power which then he became the over lord of the entire mortal kombat universe. We don't know as of right now which ending in aftermath is canon but from what we see in this trailer it seems that both endings are canon.

The Era of the Champion has concluded. The Era of the Fire God begins anew. It's a crazy time we live in where a 31-year old fighting game series is still going strong. This trailer is a great start to what's to come and I'm looking forward to the gameplay.
I predict what they do. If you remember in MK11 there were a few chapters to choose between the character you use to fight. I think they will do that in this one too. Restart with Lui Kang as an Elder God instead of Raiden. 5:25. Story wise what I think is going to happen. Things are going well, then a Shang Tsung from a different universe shows up. Coming from a situation where He helped Onaga fulfill his plan in that universe. Or was inspired and Grew in confidence so decided to come to our realm to claim his own. But in reality Onaga tricked Shang Tsung to do some dirty work and make it easier for his entry to this universe. Turning himself into the lead antagonist.

I feel like the dialogue in the trailer has a lot more to do with Liu Kang's new position as the keeper of reality. Remember; the entire premise of 11 was that of breaking the cycle with Kronika wanting to redo everything that had transpired in accordance with her design. With Liu now wielding the Hourglass as a god, he's got the power and opportunity to wind back time and reset the MK Universe, something we see him set out to do in the true ending to MK11 When he visits his ancestor Kung Lao. I believe the motif of choice is going to revolve around how characters in this new era behave. Some of them will defy the tropes of their role throughout what we've known of them in MK history. Others may fall freely back into old habits. In the end, the relationship between characters will be an interesting landscape to explore and learn more about.

Lui Kang looks to be inspired by Muay Thai this time around. In the last game he was heavily Bruce Lee inspired. The fighting style change would completely make sense too because he has the capability to control and manipulate time.

Adding to that 'flirtality' idea, I think a better way than just making it it's own thing (Which require a crapton of resources and therefore be less likely.) Just add a few 'unique" friendship endings to specific kombatants. For example if you do one with Lui Kang and Kitana, you'd get a unique friendship that was flirtatious.
In relation to the Flirtality ideas, Kitana used to have a fatality where she kissed people and then they inflated and then exploded. Also Sonya’s first fatality had her blow a kiss that lit you on fire.

I'm super thrilled and stoked that after four years of speculation journey the wait is officially over. As nrs has infiltrate the building to showcase this worldwide shaking cinematic trailer of mk1. indeed as liu kang said in his debut intro of his sequel goodhood position that has attained from the ending of mk11. Its time to shape things back to the basics. Looks liu kang can bring all the timelines to rest for all time and starts fresh from the beginning to encounter more evil twist rivalries. Maybe ed boon and his crew decides to switch to a complete timelines where we could see different characters to alamagamate with the originals. But seeing shang tsung as the first original baddie villain enters the fray to disrupts now the firegod liu kang makes wonder that we could see another round 2 classic rivalry between liu vs shang. maybe we could see multiple timelines again so that we could have a lot of characters to come and some 3d era. but the trailer looks so clean with the foundation characters that started all the franchise 30 years ago. the graphics looks so detailed and revamped with realism. the costumes looks basic since we are taking things to the old time beginnings. and the best part of course that ed has made us stare with awe and excitement are once again the legacy fatalities. The cgi really striked million times better than mk11 with the squirt of blood effects you can clearly hear the anguish destruction when shang was putting a homework clinic to his evil comrades and in the end liu kangs fatality sold me out with the firegod abilities now that has equipped with thunder and fire dragon captures shang tsung and that super man punches slash him in half and ripped his eyes and the blood trails with that juicy ending so satisfying. Another youtuber made a shocking revelation with the trailer, if you look at Scorpions uniform, you can see that he has the Lin Kuei mark sown in it. The Lin Kuei is the Chinese Assassin group that Sub-Zero belongs to. The youtuber also mentioned that this Sub-Zero could possibly be the older brother, BI-HAN,the one that became a shadow demon known as Noob Saibot, based on having the same mask as the Sub-Zero from the 2021 movie.
This takes place after Liu Kang resets the timeline after the events of Mortal Kombat 11. After becoming the God of Fire and Time, he set everyone up on a clean slate. That ties back to the end of MK: Aftermath when he visits the first Kung Lao... before he became the Great Kung Lao. Hence, back to the beginning, Mortal Kombat 1. I'm hype for this. September is not getting here fast enough.

4:40 they did say that they are thinking of Doing different ideas to say like what if mileena never betrayed kitana what if bi-Han ( the first subzero who was actually the sorcerer quan-chi at the time) killed scorpion so yes they are doing things differently and also they are implementing a tag assist system into the game we don’t know if it is concrete that it is a 2v2 fighter but we are believing it to be a 1v1 with a tag character who you can tag out and they will continue a combo for you if you miss a button so they really are putting a lot of work into the game

@@featherguardian6023 I mean, most likely, I'd be pretty pissed if guest characters were kameo fighters. It's more palpable with characters from older MK games.
Adding to that 'flirtality' idea, I think a better way than just making it it's own thing (Which require a crapton of resources and therefore be less likely.) Just add a few 'unique" friendship endings to specific kombatants. For example if you do one with Lui Kang and Kitana, you'd get a unique friendship that was flirtatious.

In relation to the Flirtality ideas, Kitana used to have a fatality where she kissed people and then they inflated and then exploded. Also Sonya’s first fatality had her blow a kiss that lit you on fire.

Making Liu Kang the new God of Earthrealm is probably Raidens single best choice cause clearly that man dont play around.
I'm super thrilled and stoked that after four years of speculation journey the wait is officially over. As nrs has infiltrate the building to showcase this worldwide shaking cinematic trailer of mk1. indeed as liu kang said in his debut intro of his sequel goodhood position that has attained from the ending of mk11. Its time to shape things back to the basics. Looks liu kang can bring all the timelines to rest for all time and starts fresh from the beginning to encounter more evil twist rivalries. Maybe ed boon and his crew decides to switch to a complete timelines where we could see different characters to alamagamate with the originals. But seeing shang tsung as the first original baddie villain enters the fray to disrupts now the firegod liu kang makes wonder that we could see another round 2 classic rivalry between liu vs shang. maybe we could see multiple timelines again so that we could have a lot of characters to come and some 3d era. but the trailer looks so clean with the foundation characters that started all the franchise 30 years ago. the graphics looks so detailed and revamped with realism. the costumes looks basic since we are taking things to the old time beginnings. and the best part of course that ed has made us stare with awe and excitement are once again the legacy fatalities. The cgi really striked million times better than mk11 with the squirt of blood effects you can clearly hear the anguish destruction when shang was putting a homework clinic to his evil comrades and in the end liu kangs fatality sold me out with the firegod abilities now that has equipped with thunder and fire dragon captures shang tsung and that super man punches slash him in half and ripped his eyes and the blood trails with that juicy ending so satisfying. I can't wait for the others what they have. I'm still hoping for onaga to come back too. Nice reaction keep it up guys

Yeah Ed Boon said today that this is not a continuation of MK 11 but clearky this is the same Liu Kang Thunder Fire God and keeper of time as well as protector of Earthrealm. I guess he'd also be an Elder God too in a way. But we have to learn more gruesome trailer as usually is with MK haha.

Also the implications of this new timeline is strange. For the first time were seeing Edenia, without having merged into Outworld. This begs the question how does Mileena exist when Tarkatans are native to Outworld? Does this mean Kitanas real father is still alive as well? This also seems like Kitana and Mileena grew up together like the original story (before MK9 reboot) so I have so many more questions about these dynamics now! Haha.

Another youtuber made a shocking revelation with the trailer, if you look at Scorpions uniform, you can see that he has the Lin Kuei mark sown in it. The Lin Kuei is the Chinese Assassin group that Sub-Zero belongs to. The youtuber also mentioned that this Sub-Zero could possibly be the older brother, BI-HAN,the one that became a shadow demon known as Noob Saibot, based on having the same mask as the Sub-Zero from the 2021 movie.

This takes place after Liu Kang resets the timeline after the events of Mortal Kombat 11. After becoming the God of Fire and Time, he set everyone up on a clean slate. That ties back to the end of MK: Aftermath when he visits the first Kung Lao... before he became the Great Kung Lao. Hence, back to the beginning, Mortal Kombat 1. I'm hype for this. September is not getting here fast enough.
I'm pretty sure him saying it's ur choice is because If u remember at the end of mk11 Lui Kang he basically reset the world/universe so he probably is saying he made this world peacefull but I'm sure he wouldn't want to make a world peacefuly by default he probably wanted to give everyone the choice to choose peace but if they didn't he probably would be there to defend earthrealm if anyone choose otherwise

4:40 they did say that they are thinking of Doing different ideas to say like what if mileena never betrayed kitana what if bi-Han ( the first subzero who was actually the sorcerer quan-chi at the time) killed scorpion so yes they are doing things differently and also they are implementing a tag assist system into the game we don’t know if it is concrete that it is a 2v2 fighter but we are believing it to be a 1v1 with a tag character who you can tag out and they will continue a combo for you if you miss a button so they really are putting a lot of work into the game
