- The Ferrari 456 and 456 M (Type F116) is a front-engined grand tourer. The 456 was produced from 1992 until 2003. It was an overdue replacement for the defunct front-engined 412 as the company's premium 4-seat V12 car. The updated 456M was replaced in 2004 by the 612 Scaglietti. It was the last Ferrari model to use pop-up headlamps.
The Pininfarina designed original 456 was available in GT and (from 1996) GTA forms. The difference in name signifies the transmission: the former has a six-speed manual and the latter has a four-speed automatic developed in partnership with FF Developments, in Livonia, MI (which was later purchased by Ricardo Engineering in the UK). This was only the fourth automatic transmission ever offered by Ferrari. The 5.5 L (5474 cc) 65° V12 engine was derived from the Dino V6 rather than the more conventional 60° V12s used in the 412 and Daytona. It produced 436 hp (325 kW; 442 PS) with 4 valves per cylinder and Bosch Motronic 2.7 engine management. It could push the 1690 kg car and four passengers to 302 km/h (188 mph) making it the world's fastest production four-seater. Acceleration to 100 km/h (62 mph) was just 5.2 seconds, with a 13.4 second quarter-mile time. At the time of its development it was the most powerful road car ever developed by Ferrari (aside from the F40).
The name 456 is derived from the fact that each cylinder displaces 456 cubic centimeters. This was the last Ferrari to use this naming convention. It is essentially a detuned version of the engine that appears in the 550 and 575. Despite its supercar performance, the 456 has a relatively unstressed engine, which has proven to be a very reliable unit.
The chassis is a tubular steel spaceframe construction with a one-piece composite bonnet and body panels of aluminium. The body panels are welded to the chassis by using a special "sandwich filler" called feran that, when laid between, allows steel and aluminium to be welded.
Approximately 3,289 of all versions were built. These consisted of the following versions: 456 GT: 1,548; 456 GTA: 403; 456M GT: 688; 456M GTA: 650.

I remember downloading this from Ferrari's website in 2000 and watching it on Quicktime. Took probably two hours to download
One of the most beautiful
Back in 1999 I drove a brand new one of these from London to the factory in Maranello via France & Switzerland & Then back to London via Monaco. It was fantastic.
What a luky guy!
I'm just a little bit jealous 🥺
The 456 has to be one of my favorite Ferraris...I don't know why...it's just so freakin awesome. So so beautiful. A dark blue with cream leather please.👅
This is exactly my favourite color combination for this car as well. Magnificent!
Wow, it was so EPIC!!
I love the 456 GT.
I still think it is the most beautiful car I've ever seen. That is the original 456 GT, not the modified (M) version.
If I win the powerball tonight I will have Ferrari rebuild me a 456 GT just like the original, but with a more modern interior and the same engine as the F12 Berlinetta. Don't care if it will cost a million dollars. Lol.
Best car i owned in my life . Blue 1993 auto gearbox
how much was the annual upkeep/service?
This is art
There should be more mecanics documentary on public television .. we use things everyday and don't even know the mindblowing complexity of those things
Congenial music this is spirit of perfection.
Thanks for posting!
Probably the best Ferrari ever made
great doc
along with the 550 Maranello the last beautiful Ferrari ( in my Opinion)
The 355 is up there. I never cared for the 360/430 but I think the 458 is a beautiful car. They went downhill with the 488/F8. I agree about the 550. They went downhill with the 599/F12/812. Not to mention the manual only in the 550. I’ve only ever driven 2 Ferrari’s ever, the 360 F1 and a 430 manual. The F1 is the worst transmission I’ve ever used, I absolutely hated it
Grant Touring gets no better if you like a car with fairly modern power but much more man + machine experience than you can get from anything made today. And I do agree with David E Davis - everyone should own a V12 once in their life...
Active Aero one THIS ???
This car just gets better and better !!
The 456MGT does not have active aero. Only the 456GT.
I LOVE the Ferrari 456 gt❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Back then the body was designed and made by pininfarina
Lovely!
Great video, shame about the recent soundtrack change
In terms of design, it was my favorite forever and ever... until the 812 Competizione
Hi there, It's so nice vanish fold What's your opinion about it, guys
sublime car, just honestly using timing belts on such a grade of machine rather than chains is pure maintenance slagging. For shame.
Not too much work to do yourself. I’ve done it twice. No engine out or any of that nonsense. The last set of belts had been in there for almost 10 years and no signs of any wear or cracks. Originally the interval was three years but Ferrari changed it to five years.
At the time of watching this...one person has no soul.
Where is the part when the windows don't fit and you have to pay $$$$ to get them aliened properly?
that happens a few years down the line, when the rest of it starts breaking down too
@@Sum_Ting_Wong Engine/driveland parts are cheap and plentiful. Kits to properly fix the windows £100. Bodywork parts are expensive though. Brake light £1000 etc. Just don't crash.
The 456 is a hand-built exotic manufactured in very small numbers - less than 3,300 over 11 years. Compare this to the 458 where they built nearly 25,000 in seven years. On a car of this type not every component can be put through extended durability testing; it’s simply not financially viable. If you want Toyota reliability, buy a Toyota. If you want a 12-cylinder Ferrari experience at the lowest price available today, the 456 will provide it, but you have to expect higher maintenance and repair costs.
Had mine for over 10 years with zero issues. Well one issue, a friend drove away with the parking brake engaged so there was some attention needed there.
