My grandma thought they called the panhandle that name because beggars pan handle. I said “ Grandma it’s shaped like a frying pan HANDLE!!!!” God bless y’all. Hope it gets contained.
This is a big fire. Probably should be having a good discussion about mitigation practices across all aspects of our grasslands. Certainly panhandle Texas is different from east Texas north of Houston and that's all different from Oklahoma, Kansas and eastern Colorado. We are all facing fire dangers though. Really need to do something though.

Second is lightening. Then look at combustible materials like mulch companies. Then look at the multitude government agencies who fight each other to deny a fix. Texas is the 2nd largest state with a vast terrain from pine tree forests to scrub land to dessert. It's easy to ask why. It's easier to understand the magnitude of Texas territory.
You be surprised at how quickly the area that was burned by the fire will recover with new grass. Many areas initiate controlled burns to do that. Years ago my dad was burning garbage trash at his ranch and the flames were whipped up by August wind and the neighbors pasture caught fire and burned quite a bit of it. The fire got pretty big before the volunteer firefighters got out there quickly got the blaze under control. Within a few weeks the area where the grass was burned it grew back greener and thicker.
I've been swimming in lake Meredith. Years ago. It is a beautiful lake. Deep and clear water. You step off big boulders to get in. I was on a float. You're surrounded by canyons. Some people were jumping off a cliff. I'm from the Gulf side of Texas. And muddy water. ❤ Lake Meredith.

If they act anything like they did for our neighbors up in Perryton, people here might see a dime for every dollar donated. Give directly to the local people, VFD's, and charities. Canadian Record and Agrilife have many up to date addresses to send to. Also see Stinnett, Pampa, Borger, Lefors, Miami, Locust Grove vfd, Booker vfd, Darrouzette vfd, Follett vfd, Perryton vfd, Shattuck vfd, Laverne vfd, Arnett/Ellis county vfd, and many many more areas. Also see the assistance from Texas Strike force that showed up from all around the state. Give to them for vehicle and equipment maintenance and repairs.
