Inside Artist Izhar Patkin's Mural-filled Loft

- In 1994, artist Izhar Patkin bought a former East Village school and turned it into a home rich with color and art. Patkin’s constantly shape-shifting loft is an extension of his own work as well as a collaboration with other artists, including Scooter LaForge, who painted floor-to-ceiling murals in each room.

The fairy- tale ish music playing with the visuals of very raw and expressive art is really something
this is what happens when you live life with the mantra of "....just because" and i don't hate it. it's fun, they're clearly happy and don't take life or themselves too seriously.
Normally, I just fast forward through these "artists" houses or studios, but this place, and the two gentlemen were fascinating, and I savored each moment. I hope they give tours!

Usually even if something isn't necessarily my taste, I can still appreciate it. This one though makes me think of the kind of place I would see when I opened my eyes after being kidnapped. However not all art is supposed to make you comfortable, some is supposed to just make you feel something so mission accomplished!

This lilty little music sure does take a bit of the edge off some of that funky pornoey art that we saw in the beginning of this fascinating presentation.

I appreciate the creativity and playfulness even though I wouldn't feel comfortable being in that place with those guys, but I'm old fashion, dont want to see murals of self fellating guys, but like I said I like individualistic guys like these two. From a distance though.......
I love art and respect this man's right to express himself through his home, but nothing about this appeals to me. I suppose I am much more of a traditionalist. I would never feel comfortable in such a space. It's all just too much, and some of the images are disturbing. Nothing about this says "home" to me.

Love the idea of a mural-filled home and totally appreciate the 'fun' vibe they have created throughout their loft. However, having said that, I'm afraid that, for me personally, the explicitly sexualized subject matter in some of the murals is a bit much, unless of course they plan not to ever have couples with young children over to their home; i.e., unless they plan to use the space exclusively for socializing with/entertaining their adult friends. It would seem to be quite a shame if children missed out on the whimsical, fun, and 'otherwise' lovely setting however, considering it appears to have been decorated by these two fun-loving and obviously talented guys' inner rebel child.
