  • Original airdate: 1/31/2019 | 185 feet above downtown Allentown the views are crystal clear in more ways than one.
"How many guys typically do you have up here," WFMZ News' Bo Koltnow asked Project Supervisor Fred Papiernik.
"10-15 guys to get the units ready," he said.
When we met up with 5 City Center's Project Supervisor Fred Papiernik the rooftop temp was 5 degrees, too cold to work, Papiernik said.
"The wind keeps gusting and trying to set the equipment. A little too dangerous to have the guys up here," he said.
Papiernik says the project's 150 workers are stuck on the ground. The lucky ones work inside with a jet -like heater nearby, while those like Mike George need the fumes from his forklift to keep warm.
"Terrible man. It feels like Alaska," he said.
Not quite. It was 20 degrees warmer there.
"How many layers do you have on?" Koltnow asked worker Willie Rivera.
"I have on two hoodies and two thermals," he said.
The heat is on to finish the 13-story, 300,000- square-foot building on time.

Feel like I'm in Alaska hahaha i relate very much to this. Had to warm up on the exhaust of a lift one day. It was the only way I could stop my hands from freezing in a bunch of crappy gloves

Come to Wisconsin. When it gets to -4 we are taking layers off. South and North Dakota and western Minnesota -4 and no 30MPH wind is almost t-shirt weather. Putting tarp around cranes with heaters so they will run in the morning would be bad enough but the engines are running so the heat is for the air and hydraulic oil that make them move. Northern Wisconsin in summer with 105 deg heat and no wind with 90% humidity the mosquito's come to feast. The worst of both worlds. South of hwy 8 are giant mosquito's and horsefly's that leave a 50 cent piece size welt, north of hwy 8 are giant housefly's that don't bite but swarm everyone outdoors and are just annoying but they suck going thru a fan trying to keep you cool. Fly guts blown by a fan into your face while setting 100,000 lb girders is not fun.
