One of the reasons I enjoy the channel is because you don't just show the pretty side\, you show the messes, the things that didn't go as planned and the dirty work. It helps me when I am seeing a problem in my own garden. Thank you!

And that’s exactly why I show both the messes & successes! We all face the same problems in the garden and to pretend otherwise is unhealthy.

Jenny, you are my garden counselor. I have learned not to fear cutting my plants back, and I should take them out if a plant is stressing me out. But especially not to let my messes discourage me because we all have them😊

I went on vacation, and my annuals suffered, so I got new annuals that will carry me through to the first hard frost. The ones that looked browned aren’t dead, so I cut them back hard, and they are rebounding. Life happens…

Everything looking good around the homestead & just love the idea of caladiums and begonias together in a large container. You always stay on top of all that needs to be completed Jenny & I do think your garden is magazine worthy! High humidity level in 6b lately with plenty of rain but plants are happy getting alot of water. Clearing out over the weekend so hope to get several hours of gardening in! Have a great weekend!

I love a caladium. Here in central and south Louisiana they are lovely perennials. I’ve had mine come back many years in my 8b/9a garden. I was skeptical, but my nursery told me they had them return as perennials for several years. Usually in areas that don’t stay soaking wet in winter, the corms won’t rot. I plant tons more every year!

I am finding gardening different this year. The drought killed so many of my plants in pots. What is left is not thriving. Added some new plants, they rotted. In the garden, some things are not growing the way I expected, very slow, of course rabbits don’t help. Things that come back by seed are very far behind, many are just sprouting. I did find a supertunia and tried one, it is doing really well. I tried a potato vine as ground cover, going to do that again. I decided to let my wild violets go and become a ground cover, however it will be one that will require controlling. My peonies are not blooming, I think years of mulch might have buried them. This fall I plan to raise them up and add some compost to my sandy soil. Black eyed Susan’s are back under control after pulling buckets full last fall. Now is to work on the grasses that are trying to take over. I am sorry this is so long, I have no one to talk gardening with. I am the only garden in the neighborhood, the rest are farmers and no real nurseries just hardware stores. I am in tidewater/Northern Neck of Virginia. Today is 90s with humidity in the 80s

@dmbalsam I'm right up the road in Richmond trying to survive this weather. I told my garden that if they don't see me before the sun comes over the trees they're not seeing me that day. I really should have installed my drip in April. We can talk gardening any time cause I don't know anyone as obsessed with planting as I am in my area.

One of my favorite posts! Thank you for the messes!
Saffron Finch has been a big disappointment! I planted SF and Jazzberry in full sun and in the landscape, fertilized weekly with PW water soluble and treated for budworms. Jazzberry was three times as vigorous! SF did not thrive despite equal treatment with Jazzberry. I put SF in containers, fertilized every week, used Captain Jack’s, and they did NOT do well. I will not be repeating SF, and I’m so disappointed. Loved the color!

I needed to see this video today! About 6 weeks ago we added an extension to our front bed beside our sidewalk that goes to the front porch. I planted homestead purple verbenas, ice plants and against my better judgement, golden sphere coreopsis. I have never had luck with coreopsis. It either doesn't bloom well or develops powdery mildew that I just can seem to get ahead of and it looks awful. Well the coreopsis looks terrible and I'm totally regretting my decision to plant it there. I have been contemplating removing it and repositioning the homestead verbena plants because quite frankly there are doing so well in the spot and can actually cover the area without me having to purchase any additional plants (they could probably use a little more space between them anyway). Just not sure if I should move the verbena now or wait until the fall. I'm totally sick of looking at the coreopsis every day lol.

Oh they were so beautiful, the saffron finch petunias. I was wondering how you were keeping petunias looking good in heat and humidity. Mine are just dying in mass casualties when the daily triple digits hit and high humidity. I think, I tend to over water them since it rarely rains late summer here in KS. The clay soil just rots the poor things. I planted huge drifts of Sunpatiens in front yard and they are looking beautiful with no bug damage. They do pout when not given enough water. It’s a 107 degrees today and yes the caladiums are loving life. I’m so tired too 😊 trying to keep everything happy in this heat and humidity. 🥵 Tried to work this morning and it was 94 at 8am. Lordy be.

Between the boxwoods and camellias that is one plant, on the corners by the steps those are 3 & 5

I need some advice on hanging baskets. I am in Mobile Al with a back porch similar to yours. Mine faces due East and thus gets morning sun up to noon. What three gameplans would work for Spring, then Summer, then Fall/Winter that would provide an abundance of flowers/color and not get lanky?
