I strongly disagree with this... I’m in the trades, and I cut sheet metal for a living, sort of speech... My main day work the past two months has been flashings... And to be honest - due to me using Midwest snips, everyone else on site is now owning a set of Midwest snips. They’ve got all sorts, and I mean all sorts of snips before that... From cheep and crappy to very expensive... and less crappy... and now All, yep, all of them are using Midwest.

From first-hand experience in commercial HVAC THIS I can say that the Midwest slips are superior to Wiss, at least the fat head pair I have, I don’t own the pair shown in the photo. But I’ve only been using my wiss snips for a little over a year and every time I use them they dull more and more. They can’t trim sheet metal anymore they just bend the metal. Where is my coworkers who have had their mid west snaps for much longer can still trim in corners with no problem at all. Save yourself the trouble and time and by the mid west aviation snips

I agree. Wiss doesn't compare to Midwest. It's in the same comparison as a five guys burger to a McDonald's.

Yes' we do metal framing and I had , dewalt , milwaukee and midwest and wiss and the best is midwest.
They don't last that much in this kind of work I say about 6 months to a year.
      Don't matter the brand.

Midwest are the best snips ever made for sure. Then malco, then wiss. Milwaukee isn't even in the discussion.

Not sure “handyman” , the forums, & grandpa are the best resources for pro level tool reviews ( snips are NOT for cutting plant stems! )
Home gamer: cheapo box store brand/Lenox/Craftsman are fine.
Old school Wiss were top notch, now Wiss is entry level apprentice / active DIY grade.
Milwaukee entry level apprentice to journeyman.
Midwest - made in America- for the win ( as a professional tradesman )

It's unfortunate that red signifies left. In other applications, such as Speaker ports, red equals right because both begin with R.

Paul I totally agree. Reds are used with your right hand, so there's another R for you. S/M Trade is like nah it cuts to left, they are lefts. Lol

    1. Midwest
    2. Malco
    3. Wiss
That's the top 3. I wouldn't own them if they weren't one of the above brands.

went through 2 pairs of wiss in the least 7 months. finally went back to midwest. I've had old midwest perform better than new wiss. had 2 brand new wiss have wide gaps in the blades making them useless. never had a problem with midwest. wiss simply isnt as good

Wiss are no longer made in the USA. I hear the quality dropped significantly since Apex bought them out and sent production to China. Sadly... Another USA quality brand sold out.

midwest snips are by far way better. I tried wiss once because i needed a new pair in a pinch and they became dull extremely fast and rust with little water exposure, also had a harder time getting cleaner cuts with them with how big and awkward the jaws are. Do yourself a favor and by them.

I've had one set of WiSS for +40 years. At that time NO ONE else was selling similar metal snips in the US. As far as I can see every other brand is a knockoff of their design.
WISS makes only one quality of snips. No matter where you buy them, they are the same quality. The M1R, M2R ,M3R style are the most popular. WISS are the only metal cutting snips that I would recommend. You can get them at most home centers for less than what Amazon sells them for in the spring or fall then the tool sales are running. Protect the metal from rusting by using WD40 before long term storage and you will be able to give them to your grandkids. The only thing that has changed since I got mine in the 1970's is the plastic handle covers.

Yep - I also have WISS snips and have never needed to buy another pair as long as you don't abuse them and keep them oiled - I totally agree with you

Your absolutely wrong..wiss are only good for a little while.. eventually they just bend the metal if you are trying to trim a small amount...Midwest are far superior and Milwaukee are also very good ..wiss comes a distant third

wiss snips has changed they dont make them as good anymore, my boss has old wiss snips, and they cut like butter compared to my new wiss snips

Why is Milwaukee even included in this? They make God awful snips, even worse than Stanley.
Plumbing/HVAC so I use snips a lot, Wiss went downhill big time in the last 10 years, once I finally bought a pair of Midwest, it's like I tasted the heavenly glory
