- This is the origin tale and the history of David Katzenbogen, the GI Joe with the codename Bazooka! Follow him with me through Marvel Comics, Action Figures and his animated appearances.

Bazooka has always been one of my favorites. It never dawned on me just how dumb he was depicted to be in the cartoon until I started rewatching that series as an adult. But a lot of Joes were given cartoonishly stereotyped personalities in that show,
Still, there is no way someone that dumb would make it to that level in the US Special Forces, so my headcanon to explain it is that Bazooka is brilliant but extremely socially awkward and like a lot of smart, socially awkward guys, he finds it easier to make friends if he just pretends to be dumb.
But then again, this is the same cartoon that gave us the cross-dressing, breakdancing Snake-Eyes, so not everything about it needs to be taken too seriously.
Same, I actually know several Army guys who were stationed in Germany during the Cold War years and it's quite an interesting place since American soldiers were still stationed on occupation duty post World War II
He was one of the very first GI JOE's I got as a kid, for Christmas. Along with crosscountry, leather neck and I think mainframe

I don't remember which Joe is behind him but he's standing in the WRONG place, no matter which direction the missile is fired

6:15 This is a weird set of binoculars that Cover Girl has. It looks more like a laser designator to call in air strikes
8:16 and 8:27 the missile launcher on his file card is too small to be an anti tank weapon, it looks more like a grenade launcher than an anti tank launcher. Similar to an M79 "Thump" gun
Python Force and Tiger Force are a couple of sub sets of the Joes that I could never understand
I guess that they were created to give the Joes, COBRA vehicles and vice versa
Bazooka always got the funny lines . I cant even think of a time Bazooka wasnt making me laugh whenever not in a battle.
Was sad when he died in Resolute.

Bazooka was not my favorite joe but he was on the list.If they had to kill one of the old school guys why not pick someone obscure and nobody would miss.Like Life Line.I could literally see his pacifist butt trying to reason with the very cobra trooper sent to kill him.Just before he shoots him. :P

He was one of the series icons! The football jersey with the helmet let you know the Joes weren’t playing by normal rules!
Bazooka was the first Joe figure I owned. Yeah, his role in Resolute was a letdown.
Note that the Joes use AK-47s in some scenes, This is not uncommon because for certain missions enemy weapons are more feasible due to plentiful ammo especially the AK

Again my friend another excellent video, keep up the great work, it's interesting to see how two different medias can portrait a character, in the comics Bazooka demonstrates great skills as a soldier, even leading in different occasions a group of Joe's while in the animated series he was more like the goofy character, almost like a comedy duo along with Alpine ala Laurel and Hardy, when I saw Resolute I was shocked to see him being one of the first casualties of the miniseries and although I don't agree with most of RoC movie it's good to see they paid homage to the death of Bazooka by having an exact replica of the panel where the Joe's hanged his football jersey.

Bazooka and Alpine were the only G.I.Joe memebers that actually made me laugh. It sux that they actually killed him in the rebooting but he'll always be remembered 🇺🇸👍💪
i was so looking forward to that reboot cartoon and right from the start they show him dead. i stopped watching right there and didnt even bother with the rest of the eps .

not sure if you were aware of it but during the gi Joe Retaliation movie he was on security detail & was killed

Love the vids, but think you gloss over the animated stuff a lot...More should have been done about his "buddy cop" relationship with Alpine, and that he was the only Joe to ever get shot in the series

Another character the cartoon did better. Reason I mention this because I feel some hardcore fans the comics seem way to hesitant to give the cartoon any sort of credit.

If you cut back on giving so much detail of the comics, you wouldn't be so rushed. Many of these characters have a lot of information with toys or comics , or cartoon appearances, that you skim over because you are rushed. Just a thought.
Jesse Garland Thanks for the idea! I like to keep my primary focus on the comic book run because that’s my favorite part of the line these days although growing up it was the show. There’s a lot of channels that do figure reviews, etc and not as many that go over the comics so that’s another reason I spend most of my time there. Also, I don’t feel rushed at all 😎
@@JLSComics no problem, some of them seemed rushed, maybe with the inflection of your voice. I think we grew up about the same time frame. I was into the comics and cartoons also.
@@JLSComics I like the details you give sir & I think they are very comprehensive! Even if I know a bunch of the info (which is sometimes the case), it feels like catching up with old friends & then I learn new stuff. I really like the comics as well & have been trying to follow the UK Action Force trail for sometimes! On a side note, I like how the Collector's Club integrated the International variants into their stories. Also Larry Hama is an awesome guy! (Somebody made him into "The Creator" figure.)
His uniform (or lack thereof) makes him a bottom tier character for me.
