"Kurisumasu ni wa Kentakkii" has to be one of the most successful marketing campaign ever, just the same as what Coke did in US, with now everybody thinking Santa clothes have to be red.
We only view Santa as red due to us being an American colony, but Santa is just something for fun and for the kids but is not obligatory for Christmas celebrations, what is obligatory is the nativity scene, night mass/misa de gallo, parols/star lanterns, going around asking Christmas gifts and noche buena or midnight party/feast during Christmas eve.
That is funny AF!!! "Fried chicken is close enough to turkey!!!" I love it!!! I had no idea this was a thing in Japan - Thank you again Meshida for expanding my horizons. Happy holidays!!!
Merry Christmas, Meshida. Confusing Colonel Sanders for Santa is not even the most humorous misunderstanding in Japan. There was a photo of a decoration of a Crucified Santa in a Japanese store don't if it's real but it has become a bit of a meme in the West.
I was going to gently chastise you for the "not even" part of your comment but I'm too much of an atheist for that sh*t is just too funny! You made my Christmas even more than the guy who made a biblically correct angel for his tree topper. And I love your name.🎅✝☠
Dude! your are not joking. I drove by a KFC this afternoon between Amagasaki and Nishinomya and there was a near riot outside of people trying to get in the store before they ran out of product, which I have now heard many stores have.
Meshida-san partnering up with Ken Suzuki is the perfect combination when it comes to Comedy, especially the lack of pronunciation makes it even better. Keep it up! And Merry Christmas!
Christmas is a special day with holy/spiritual connotations and foods eaten are special/rare/expensive or something only available during the winter season or during Christmas specifically so eating something cheap and readily available all year round and is a fast food is odd to say the least and is similar to treating your spouse's anniversary with Onigiri or udon.
In America, we usually eat a baked ham, mashed or baked potatoes, gravy, corn and green beans, dinner roll, and some kind of pie and ice cream on Christmas. We eat all that stuff until we are stuffed and can't move. Then we sit around the living room and swap lies with relatives we haven't seen since the previous year. Various forms of alcohol are also usually involved.
Merry Christmas! 🎄 Since I knew how Japanese celebrate Xmas, I have been having KFC every year on Xmas day. But since I am in Japan this year and you need to book it waaay too early in advanced, I am breaking my Xmas 'tradition', in Japan 🤣 🎅 --> low income middle age part timer
Hi from Tallinn, Estonia, and merikuri! I stopped by the KFC on my way home before it closed, to have some chicken Christmas too, and literally half the customers in there were Japanese 😅😹😹😹 the other customers must have wondered nani the kuso was going on there 😹😹😹
Love the old commercials with the very upright and stiff looking pieces of chicken. The cocks were crowing no doubt. My family and I are planning a trip to Tokyo. Hopefully we can check out Meshida's act!
We're in Japan for the holidays and last night I brought the _チッキンの日¥1000_ box back to the hotel. _It. Was. Glorious._ I'd never eat it back home, aside from the spicy crispy chicken sandwich. I also had my first _Christmas Cake_ this year, and it didn't count as cheating because it was actual Christmas Cake.
"... the same reason America goes to war." Ouch! This US American is reaching for the burn ointment right now! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, Meshida-Sensei.
Okay this is my favorite thing because I find it so fun that one of my countries places became big like this. That and I'm glad you put in old commercials from the 80's. You know what's funny? I tried to do this on a trip to see my sister. See I along with my mom and dad go to see my sister for Christmas and we have to pick a places to eat with her and her family so I said "Why don't we do it like my Japanese do and get KFC?" But she didn't want to because it "MAKES HER SICK" which is a big lie she just didn't like my idea. Also I tried to do it again this past year but my mom just made a roast chicken. Man, what is up with that? 3:18 Okay this part just really put a smile on my face. Well I hope you did have a great Christmas and New Years. You know I have to say that last part for me would make more sense if it was you get to enjoy my KFC and I get to enjoy your women if you know what I mean. 😏😏😏😏😏😏
“Japan was doing it FIRST!”😆😂🤣He’s right! And now some of US have adopted it as a “Japanese tradition!” I hope we never go to war again! You guys have turned awesome since last time!🤘😆🤘
Most people don't know that Santa Claus's red-and-white-suit image started with American soft drinks advertising in the early 20th century (not just Coca Cola), and our incarnation of the character wasn't created at all until the early 19th century (in America). He's based on Euro and Brit legends of Saint Nicholas, Father Christmas (which was its own thing before then), and the name came from the Dutch Sinterklaas custom (I think) which involved carrots. Americans basically invented Christmas as we know it. KFC Christmas is ironically apt. =D
you forgot to mention the time honored tradition of pulling down the pants of Colonel Sanders as you leave KFC, then laugh and take a picture, Ah!! i miss japanese christmas
@meshida-San could you please make a episode of tattemae and honne behind it. I always want to know what Japanese mean when they say 'ee nihongo wa joz desu' or 'kawaiii'
Christmas is pretty much the same here in Sweden it's more about selling as much as possible each year. The stores are crowded and me working as a cleaner can be quiet annoyed because they are everywhere xD The worst part they always think that i'm working for the store. 🤔 The company logo that i work for looks like it is from a circus.
"KFC was invited to many school parties to dress as Santa and give out fried chicken for Christmas. Probably 'They Had Many Fat Employees' " They way @ 2:19 was said was like some thriller movie climax....🤣🤣 And this one was unexpected @ 2:49 (By saying this one I am not making fun of any part timer, that was just an unexpected conclusion...😅)
What I am wondering. We in our family typically eat a goose or a duck and it is freshly made. In my opinion fast food is something to be eaten were you buy it. Because this is the time it tastes best. Isn't the stuff of KFC cold when you get home ? Does it even taste good if you warmed it up again ?
Merry Christmas meshida also it makes sense about the fake news it's always about money as for the chicken instead of Turkey Christmas in the United States was created from a mixture of cultures so you can celebrate it however you want if chicken is the cultural tradition of Japan for Christmas that's fine and for me it would taste better anyways
I should have planned KFC for this Christmas. Instead, I'm getting steak. It was a very expensive mistake! :D People at the grocery store checkout were fainting from sticker shock.
Now that COSTCO has become a ‘thing’ in Japan, we can actually buy a whole chicken or turkey there, albeit a frozen 🥶 one! 👍 Costco’s birds aren’t cheap though! 💴
For most people in America, Christmas is also a consumerist holiday.
"Kurisumasu ni wa Kentakkii" has to be one of the most successful marketing campaign ever, just the same as what Coke did in US, with now everybody thinking Santa clothes have to be red.
Big Brain marketing 😂🔥👌🏾
santa was already red long before then from the 1860s!
Right up there with the DeBeers diamond marketing campaigns.
When Meshida-san said that Santa is a low-income middle-aged part-timer, I laughed and then got sad after
That is funny AF!!! "Fried chicken is close enough to turkey!!!" I love it!!! I had no idea this was a thing in Japan - Thank you again Meshida for expanding my horizons. Happy holidays!!!
Chicken is better anyway. Imagine both sides of the Pacific off-gassing. We may cause a thermal event.
Keep up the good work, sensei!! and Merry Christmas!!
Would please make a next video, specifically about why cond0ms sales are high during xmas in Japan. For research purposes. Thanks
Merry Christmas, Meshida. Confusing Colonel Sanders for Santa is not even the most humorous misunderstanding in Japan. There was a photo of a decoration of a Crucified Santa in a Japanese store don't if it's real but it has become a bit of a meme in the West.
Im not religious but seeing that made me want to put on armor and be like well its time for a cruzade
I was going to gently chastise you for the "not even" part of your comment but I'm too much of an atheist for that sh*t is just too funny! You made my Christmas even more than the guy who made a biblically correct angel for his tree topper. And I love your name.🎅✝☠
That's awesome 😆
@@badrequest5596 JFT Japanese Fried Turkey! Created By General Samata is a tradition in Neu Zoolund For Christmas!
Nah they confuse Santa with Jewsus!
Meshida never fails to make me laugh while teaching me interesting stuff.
Thank you!!! May your channel blow up soon, it's heavily underrated!
Thanks!
飯田さん、Merry Christmas!
Thanks!!!!!
I was denied service at KFC in Kawasaki today because they were only serving customers who preordered Christmas Chicken dinners.
4:49 "Yes, all good presents come in small boxes"
Oh, that's a very good joke! 🤣
Dude! your are not joking. I drove by a KFC this afternoon between Amagasaki and Nishinomya and there was a near riot outside of people trying to get in the store before they ran out of product, which I have now heard many stores have.
A very merry Christmas to you and your family Meshida. Hopefully the Colonel gives you lots of presents.

As someone from kentucky, I feel honored. It is also a pure joy to hear japanese people pronounce 'kentucky.'
Merry Christmas Meshida-san. 🎅 🎄

Happy Christmas 🎄⭐️🎅🏻
Just rewatched. This is now a Christmas Classic.
Merry Christmas! 🎄

4:16 I couldn't stop smiling during that commercial! That has to be some kind of mind control.
😂😂😂🙏🏻 great video
Merry Christmas Meshida! May you continue doing these great and informative videos in 2023 as well!
Love the old commercials with the very upright and stiff looking pieces of chicken. The cocks were crowing no doubt. My family and I are planning a trip to Tokyo. Hopefully we can check out Meshida's act!
Found your video by pure happenstance and enjoyed it. Merry Christmas!!
Thanks, that was both funny and informative!
Excellent window to a fascinating country.
We're in Japan for the holidays and last night I brought the _チッキンの日¥1000_ box back to the hotel.

Not to mention countries that go to war for imperialism! U.S. Saved Japan from itself and sacrificed to save the world from Japan.
Meshida is based.
Man i would love to see one of your stand up shows
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, Meshida!
Colonel Sanders: That moment I reincarnated as Santa in Japan
This sounds like an affordable way to score points with your girlfriend on Christmas.
KFC in Indonesia is trying to market this Xmas with KFC thing too. 😂
Excellent report. I learned a lot without having to actually research.
That's the consumer spirit!
Genius marketing move, KFC will never go out of buisness now, at least in Japan.

Last week when I was in Japan I tried KFC and it was very tasty! I couldn't order the christmas bucket but that was fine.
Great vlog, something I didn't know about KFC, Christmas, and Japan. I only remember eat KFC with my family in Japan and didn't know why.
When U said "come in small packages.." I lost it right there.
Awesome video as always. Merry Christmas Meshida and Ken! :)

Very interesting and funny Sanders Claus.

Reporter: do Americans eat KFC at Christmas?
Ookawara: …oh, definitely.
Luv ur vids
Wait. You're telling me Colonel Sanders isn't Santa Claus?? 🥺
last week I just commented 1 of your video that christmas in japan is about kfc and last christmas song
and now you answer 1 of them lol
Answer to the video-posed question in the nutshell: because Japanese love chickening ✨
Special thanks mashida
you forgot to mention the time honored tradition of pulling down the pants of Colonel Sanders as you leave KFC, then laugh and take a picture, Ah!! i miss japanese christmas
@meshida-San could you please make a episode of tattemae and honne behind it.

You got me in the first half, not gonna lie...
Merry Christmas, Meshida!
Maligayang Pasko, at manigong bagong taon....
sooooo funny ,,, love it x
In Canada & USA, Xmas is also a consumerist holiday!
😂
Saturnalia🪐…the Catholic Church invented Christmas as a tool with which to convert the herds into religious ‘consumerists’… ⛪️🫲💸
😆
Nice!
hello Meshida
Thank you for explaining this odd custom
"the same reason America goes to war" best take ever. lmfao
Christmas in America is also a consumerist holiday. And also where I live. So don't feel bad. 😁
Ohhhh yeah
I heard this and had to ask my friend in Japan, then yelled at my friend from college for not telling me lol
メリークリスマス!
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Oddly enough, Colonel Sanders was a real person. I wonder if he lived long enough to know about this. I imagine he would have been delighted.

Anw Meshida-san why you put Ayase Haruka san 😂😂
Someone needs to make a Christmas hentai anime short film with KFC Santa and lolicon elves. 😁🎄😜
I always wonder whey KFC at Christmas. Great explanation.
Meshida San you are very funny. I look forward to coming to one of your shows!
For what Meshida-San said, am going to eat out at KFC tomorrow. BY FORCE!
Small boxes. Nice.
Merry Kentucky Fried Chicken Christmas 😆
Nice
Merry KFC Christmas 🎄 meshida-San lol 😂
FACTs!
I think Japanese people confuse Col Sanders with Santa
Merry KFC, Meshida-San!
Our bro always make our day good ,Love from India 💖✨

KFC on Christmas - now we know
I honestly wonder how common it is for Japanese people can cook. I mean really through down just not miso or a curry. What's the spice rack situation?
4:44 hahahahaha
I never was at a KFC. :(
There is no one in my town.
I know 1 KFC but its far away and bad to reach.
