  • Adult female Hymenopus coronatus (Malaysian Orchid Mantis) fresh after molt. The pink will fade then return during her cycle of producing oothecae. She grooms herself like a cat by wetting bristles on the inner side of her craws then rubbing them over her face and eyes.

      +precarious333 I had someone actually come onto my channel and harass me for no reason other than my mantis collection telling me to 'play video games' because I'm 'sad'. It seems as though the people who have no life seem to be aggravated by biology studiers.

    I'm so glad you have this up cause I've been looking everywhere to see a fully grown orchid mantis now I can finally draw one fully grown thank you and I must say yours is very beautiful. I'm really not a fan of bugs myself they are interesting, and funny that I draw cartoon bugs lol, but mantis would freak me out cause of their eyes. But I don't find the orchid mantis that way but only see the beauty in this type of mantis.

    They're easy to keep so long as you keep humidity up and can produce lots of blue bottle flies for them to eat. Not hard to get adults. Breeding is a different story which is why they aren't cheap.

      Do you mean a download of the music? There is none yet. I'm going to do my best to get all of that set up in the coming year. I haven't had a music studio set up for a couple years but I've actually been getting things in place this week. I'm taking a break from installing my modular synth as I sit down to reply to you. This particular track is called 'Re-Incorporated' and will be part of a release of ambient soundscapes tentatively titles 'Strange Places'. There are 24 tracks total. I'll be sure to make some kind of announcement when the time comes so if you are a subscriber to this channel and get notifications you'll find out. Thanks for watching!

      Ha-ha! Thanks. Yeah, I make all the music for my videos. I thought you knew and that's why you were asking. I try to combine all my interests; raising insects, video and music production. This is one of the ambient tracks I made specifically to use as music beds in the videos. They are all improvisational, recorded in one pass. People seem to like them, which I never expected.

    I love all your videos! How do you find, collect, keep, and maintain these beautiful bugs? I'm amazed at how healthy, beautiful and happy they are! The only ones I find around my garden on rare occasions are the common green ones. Even then I don't know how to catch and keep them, so I just leave them alone. I really hate it when the birds swoop down and eat them. They are so beautiful!
    :(

  • @MajiggerRose

    My mantis was nearly this pink after her final molt, but it's now faded to greenish white. Did that happen with yours too?

    • @precarious333
      @precarious333  8 років тому +1

      +Natalie Rose
      I've noticed they go through phases as adults where they pass back and forth from pink to normal color. Not sure if it's in sync with their egg production or what. Some are naturally way more pink than others but it seems they all get more pink at certain points that come and go. Chances are the pink will come back to yours.

      I don't. Some people speed them up by keeping temps around 90. I keep mine only around 75-80 so molting takes more time but they can collect more food between molts.

      They are very hard to come by and, as you can imagine, demand far exceeds availability. When they do crop up they go very fast and they aren't cheap. I don't know anyone currently selling. It took me two years to get the nymphs I have now. Not telling you that to be discouraging. Just letting you know what to expect. This is by far the most popular species to keep as pets.
      All I can suggest is keep an eye on mantispets.com or join mantidforum.net and keep an eye on the sale ads.
