Great buy Stephen, looking forward to seeing how it turns out next Summer. As I think Peter alluded to apparently Rouge de Bordeaux is allegedly the most missold variety in the UK 😂. Mine certainly wasnt a Rouge de Bordeaux and i still don't know what it is for sure but at least it gives a decent breba crop 😁

The only thing going for it initially is it looks like it'll grow pretty compact and relatively small as the rouge de bordeaux supposedly is, but it's too early to tell. Fingers crossed!

Nice specimen Stephen. I also have a fig labelled as 'Rouge de Bordeaux', I have had it for almost 7 years but it's never held a fig to full ripeness yet. I know a few other people that supposedly have this variety but it seems most people's turn out to be completely different varieties. I know Brett has a fig that was labelled Rouge de Bordeaux too, but his looks different to mine. But hopefully, yours proves to be a better one than the one I have 🤞

Where did you get it from? Did you find out what it actually was?

@@theadventurousallotmenteer6582 I got it from the Eden project when I visited. They sold some outdoor plants, I presume a local nursery supplies them with the plants. I’ve never had it identified by any fig experts, but I have heard the true Rouge de Bordeaux is meant to need warmer weather. I’m wondering if it only produces main crop as it always drops the brebas when they are very small. But it could also be a completely different variety. I should probably also repot it this year.

@@PeterEntwistle I've often heard it's very difficult to get hold of a true variety, it's never 100% true to form. If yours is dropping brebas it sounds like it could be infertile or not self fertile. Most cultivars should be self fertile.

@@PeterEntwistle I've taken a punt with Rouge de Bordeaux because it is apparently an early maincrop. It's apparently a common type, as opposed to a caprifig, so in theory it should produce brebas, but they often fall off according to growers. It's also an earlier maincrop variety, so there should be maincrop figs around September to October here, in theory. I guess we will find out...
