I just got the d1 pro with the 10w and the 40w. I also ordered the 1064nm infrared module. If i swap out the motherboard amd gantry from thr 10w to the ones from the 40w, could i then use that new gantry and motherboard to run all 3...so i would only need to swap out the lasers?
Great question! For the 40W and 10W laser the upgraded mother board can run both. I’d need to check on the 1064nm module though, I’m not sure it can be driven by it. I don’t think you’d need to swap boards each time.
Can you swap in and out the40w and 10w lasers fairly easily? Of do you have to swap mother boards as well?
Great question! It’s super easy. New motherboard is backwards compatible so it’s just swapping the laser.
@@NorthwestCraftsman Thanks! I am debating between the 20w or doing the 40w + 10w bundle. I have always heard buy more power than you think you need when it comes to this kinda stuff. Would you suggest the combo over just the 20w?
Totally get it. Are you doing much in the way of cutting? Or deep engraving? If most of your work is marking, I’d start with the 10W, see how it works for you, then upgrade if needed. You don’t save much (usually) by bundling it all together and the speed savings you think you’ll get only go so far because the mass of the head units increases and reduces the max speed. That may only be true for the 40W but it’s about half the max allowable speed the stage can do.
@@NorthwestCraftsman thanks for the insight! So you would suggest the 10w by itself over the 20w? I will do some cutting but I think the main use will be engraving on wood and then doing some custom tumblers. I think most of the cutting will be small projects like ornaments and educational puzzles and stuff for my 2 year old. So I imagine most of the cutting will be fairly thin wood
If you can afford the 20W, I’d get that. It would allow you to do both the engraving and cutting on the scale you described.
Thanks for another great video the wife has been wanting one figure I can get some use in the shop with it just can’t seem to pull the trigger, although I’m having a hard time finding that one you put together on there site ?
