Thank you so much for the shoutout!! I love this! 🥰🎶
THERE SHE IS!
Every time I go to the website to buy one it says there’s a problem with the server, anyone else having this issue? It’s been like this for me for 2 weeks
@@LA7Rose No problem accessing the site but they are sold out
“It’s never been more fun to not know how to play the kalimba”
- that lovely harp youtuber
* oh, by the way, Emily Hopkins is the name of that lovely harp youtuber... just in case you wondered 😉
HAHAHA thank you so much!!!! ❤️
She's amazing!!
It often seems like the names of the people who inspire his videos get their names left out.....
I first learned about this instrument from her video!
Your dreamy sonic creation relaxed me after a busy day at work - thank you Simon!
Well damn!! looks like i'm going to have to modify one of mine now too, i love it! and the jam at the end is *chefs kiss*. for anyone wondering when they'll be back in stock, i'm building more right now which should be on sale next week. i'm trying to do a new batch every month :)
Awesome. Looks really fun
@Lottie Canto Awesome thank you so much I’ve been going to the website, every other day, just to see if it’s back in stock lol 😂 your instruments are a major inspiration to me❤️
Awesome sauce.
you know how much i love how you show manual once and let me pause and read it. instead of taking up 18minutes to explain each one. Thank you. Keep up the great videos brojah.
"Perfect for plugging in and not knowing what you're doing" is my kind of instrument.
Couldn't wait for you to get your hands on this , first person I thought of when I saw this unit for first time.
I love your videos and this old is one of my favorite. I love this kalimba and have been trying to buy on for years and they always sell out before I can get one. They’re so cool and you made it next level cool. I need this in my life.😂
Good job, keep up the great work.
Just discovered you on UA-cam, and I am digging it. You know your stuff, Subscribed.
2 piezos on either side would be amazing for a stereo effect.
Honestly for how cheap they are its like why wouldn't they have two? You buy this instrument then down the road you buy the new better one with two piezos lol. Its the apple technique.
Tbh based on the internals it looks like something that should cost £80 max
I don't make enough mental money to own a mental washing machine. I wash all my mental clothes in my parents' head.
just imagine more
The effects remind me of my polyphonic whale
I have some of those days too, when my mental trousers shrink in my mental washing machine
This is very cool Simon, the mods make it extremely usable in a lot of contexts
Well done :)
Damn, mental pants had me dying...
Love it!
Spring Reverb With a real spring inside.
i need this in my life
Nice merch dude just got my self the magpie hoodie looks fucking awesome. Love your stuff dude keep up with the good work 🤘🏻😜🔥
This is a genius idea for a product.
I have an electric kalimba hooked up to a kp3, but the portability of this is awesome af. Too bad these are sold out, maybe I can get some help from a friend to essentially make the same thing.
very beautiful
Love that jam!
What a beauty. Would be a perfect fit for my music, pity its sold out! - greetings from Ireland! - Jeremiah James & The Resonance
New batch preorders on their website starting this coming Monday. You're welcome 😊
I do have an effect in Ableton, called "Laundry" that makes it sound like music is in a dryer. Mental Laundry? Maybe, with Static Cling? Mental Dotted Eighth Note Simple Delay? It's why we leave notes, after all, for retrieval after a delay.
Needs more metal zone.
Yes I want to see this
Mad as a box of frogs.
Hes a rare example today of a totally sane person ,not many about
Madder than a house made of chocolate logs.
That thing is wild
Kalimba with built in mic - 18$ (incl shipping) + any pedal(s) = could be as cheap\expensive and as functional as you like.
Would love to hear a cover of Radiohead's "Everything In It's Right Place" on this.
That jam takes me back to some Ninja Tune compilation album I can't remember the name of... I think it was released in the late 90's.
Anyway, lovin this video, nicely done Simon xo
I was looking up schematic and should have known you were about to open it up. Love your work thanks
Trippiness squared.
Since they are pretty expensive and sold out anyway, we need Simon or Sam (LookMumNoComputer) to do a tutorial on how to build one ourselves 😬🙏🏻
I saw an ad for this on Instagram, automatically saved it. So glad you did a vid on this
Pedalboard adaptable version of this would be GREAT
Magic pies !!!
How do you feel about flashing EPROM chips? Looks like you can easily swap out their 8 programs for some of your own, maybe even hack in a switch to expose the 8 default sounds on the main chip?
That’s pretty trippy alright….
oh my god i love this way too much
This connected to a Microcosm can get super crazy.
The instrument and your shirt are making me feel like I am on a LSD trip.
Oh thats neat
my youtube recommendations are getting funky
"Mental pants shrunk in the mental wash."
Such advanced ruminations.
2:17 We call this...the "Zora's Domain" setting.
cool!!!!!
Dude no, I'm the magpie.
Company tries hacking a kalimba, Magpie hacks it more

SOLD OUT !
people would buy any shit. thinking about bongo with built in pedal.
putting the right carrier at the top on the left button, you can carry 👌👍
I’ve been wanting my first kalimba, with my Hughes and kettner rig I’ll use this kalimba with it lol
das ding is soo geil 😎🤘
It reminds me of Jerry Garcia's "Eep Hour" but eepier. Eep is good.
AWESOME!!!!
That transducer is way smaller than I thought it'd be.
I have no need for one of these Kalimbas but I want one all the same ⚆_⚆
Pause video at random. 8/10 camoflage!
What did i walk into, all the colors threw me off. Maybe i need to adjust my head and try watching again 😅
Nicotine pouches represent! 🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻
is this Varg's new channel?
Who is Varg?
no, this is Simon the Magpie. He's been at it for a while.
Where have you gone Simon?! I am missing new videos!!
Expression input for pitch might be cool on this one. So you could use a pedal and keep both hands on the thingy.
The high pitch sound is because you're slowing the sample rate. So as audio with frequencies higher than half the sample rate enter the effect, they're coming out the other end in funky ways that don't relate logically to how they came in. (I think. Maybe this isn't DSP. Then it's some other reason). Interesting anyway!
this is indeed DSP. It's the same chip that drives a lot of guitar multi-effects pedalboards, although there's usually a lot of them in those.
Every time when you get a minecraft exp.
Aaaannnddd: they're sold out.
07:38 why didn't you leave how you WASTED yourself in the video? 😂 that must've been superb
We demand the video!!!!
@@fisherdigital let's start a petition!
The sound of it reminds me of the game Mutazione
Magpie. Channel formerly known as NoisePedals here from many moons ago. I see you are now a famous UA-cam celebrity. If you ever make it to Scotland let me know and I'll buy ye a vodka or ten. Yer videos are still epic. Love that you don't give a fuck or pretend to be an expert - you just do cool shit.
Hehey yeah I still watch and very much enjoy your videos 😁😁 post covid plans for sure
@@SimonTheMagpie Decided to show my face. The man behind the mask. I've watched pretty much every single one of yours! Keep up the great shit man.
Phhhhhrrrretty cool!
I am surprised to see you thinking that this would be a viable signal chain for a kalimba. YOU’RE DANGEROUS!! I know that you know better ways than this. Black hole!!!
You should pull stuff out of an oven when it’s ready, like the pcb board 😂
Ouch mind offical blown...... must sacrifice bit crusher to electric kalimba.
I have my own homemade electro-acoustic piccolo bass guitar with a set of four piezo pickups underneath the bridge saddles, all summed to mono. It has an excellent sound with an equal volume from each string. This kalimba, nice as it is, needs more pickups.
Hi, I'm fascinated by the modding he is doing in this video the skillset behind it, but this is all beyond my knowledge. This is definitely something I would love to learn about and become skilled into but I don't even know how I should call the different skills involved in this so I can make researches as to how I might go about learning the involved crafts. Can someone guide me with some keywords and maybe a short explanation of what one would need to learn and become skilled into to be able to mod electronics and musical instruments like this all by oneself?
Is it possible to make a kalimba with guitar pickups? Like an electric kalimba. Would the pickups detect the vibration of the kalimba metal things?
Satisfying
I didn't know terraria entered the chat
Sick
Nice video ma men
Microtonal version when?
Some Gui Boratto vibesssss
Thumbs Up#777!!!... Any prize?... Laughs!...
Oh and you forgot to boost it with a tube screamer lol
can you use multiple piezo mics to one output? y'know? like multiple pickups on a guitar? would quickly take care of that volume issue.
Good vdo
Does anyone know a free VST that mimics the effects of the blue mode? It sounds nice.
Valhalla supermassive for all these basically
@@wokeil Thanks, will take a look.
Love these videos. I wish I could tamper with instruments like this

Simon you need to get a Plasma Drive by Gamechanger Audio (and don't yolo circuit bend it) and run this through it
Would’ve loved to hear a track produced by Simon and vocals done by Mac
Pretty nice, I wonder if they could make one with a proper pickup and controllable distortion. Sounds great at 13:47
What about a Dual Manual TOy Piano?
Not sure what I like better, the shirt, or the Kalimba.
I think I'll go with the shirt, this time.
Best wishes, from California :-)
Sold out! Looks like they’re made in Birmingham, wonder if I can get a brummie discount like Lottie offers for the fuzz pedal???
Can I try this out.. I want oneeeee... I'm poor..
getting a lot of minecraft vibes
