    Thank you for sharing this. Hearing your thoughts on this tatt and your client was very helpful.

    very good speaker, great technics, not stuck on himself kinda guy. great overall tutorial. Anybody who thinks he is a better tattooist than others , should watch this guy and follow him. Like the old saying" you can learn alot from watching another artist who may know what he's doing" was never so truer than this example or style of work. Keep up the art. thanks , a big help.

    Did you film a followup video to finish this tattoo? And/or post a video on how you got the strings and other details in?

    Thanks again for sharing! Nice work..And of course MORE details..Personally I never get enough always want more! It's great that you don't time lapse and jump all around with the editing ..making it easier to see your technique and what it does in the skin....Really glad what you said about the needles jumping in and out of the skin...I was noticing myself doing that lately....mostly when packing large areas of solid color..or when going shallow .and using the sweep technique..although not when doing circles....Now I know to focus on not being so flexible at the wrist ..which I did know but sometimes bad habits are hard to break if you don't realize you're doing them unless someone points that out ..and nip it in the bud!!! lol

      Yeah man. It's sometimes hard to keep those things in mind, especially with large fields of color. I think we all get a little impatient from time to time and start rushing our hands. Thanks for the comment

    Jake! This is so stunning. I really see tattooing going more towards this type of fine art interpretation and less of the sticker effect. Would you be willing to give some tips and trick for watercolor effects some time?

    • @FiresideTattooNetwork

      Sure. The watercolor effect isn't something I do a lot but I definitely have some ideas on how to make it effective. Thanks for the supprot

    I say I AM TOTALLY GRATFUL That you are sharing your experiment with us. This has to be the most satifying way to tattoo because you get to think more like a artist than a craftsman. I WANT TO SEE EVERYTHING so yes please share all the footage :) I love this style and this is the direction i would like to go since im more of a painter than a tattoo artist myself! Thanks for all your time and energy you put into sharing your TECH TIPS!!

    I think you did an outstanding job with this. Being you're experiment it turned out pretty good. With the next setting or two if will just get better. I agree with you about not mixing the Brown with the gold. You don't really want a new color but you want a blend of two or more to give the violin some depth and realism. I would love to get something like this done.

    Again thank you for sharing your technique! This is how I started tattooing after I broke away from my internship. I am still learning, but this is where my tattoos are generally at after I’m finished with the first or second session depending on size. People don’t understand why but in the end it makes sense--I tattoo like I paint, as well. You are an inspiration; thank you for daring to be different

    I was just curious if you are expecting any of the gold glaze to heal out and if some of it does will it help to create the slight variations and imperfections, in the wood finish, that you are striving for? I would love to see the other footage that wasn't aired and I think it would be really interesting to see some up close shots of the skin before you layer another color over it. I personally do a lot of black and grey work so I'm very curious to see what the saturation percentage looks like, of the initial color, before the next color is layered over it. Thank you for all that you are doing! These technique videos, and honestly this whole channel, are amazing and seriously helpful. Keep up the awesome work and if i can help you guys out somehow then just let me know.
    -Michael

      Thanks a lot. I am curious about how the gold will affect the underlying color. I will definitely get some shots of the healed skin before I start the next pass. Thanks again for the support

    i really appreciate what your showing with the values and im learning not to work the skin too much..aswell your blending the colors is very educational...thank you for helping us newcomers out..it just goes to show not all works on people can be accomplished in one sitting and any tips regarding the inks after the client leaves..ex..do you have pre mixed inks for certain clients:)??.. i love the going back and checking the three sharpest areas of lines to clean up..very helpfull tip man:)

    • @FiresideTattooNetwork
      @FiresideTattooNetwork  8 років тому

      Thanks a lot. I'm glad some of the tips have helped you out. I personally don't premix inks for specific tattoos but I have several friends who do. I think it's a good idea especially for large scale work where you need to find an exact match.

    In the video you talk about being able to read skin and not pushing it over it's limit. I use a similar technique sometimes in my tattoos and I run into some healing issues sometimes even though I tend to error on the side of caution. Under-working an area rather then overworking. It only happens very rarely, so It is hard for me to figure out if it is my fault and I am pushing too far for the skin type or if it is lack of aftercare on the clients part. The normal symptoms are longer healing time and minor scabbing even though they don't show signs of being overworked. I'm guessing it boils down to everyone's skin is a little different and not all people follow aftercare as they should. Any tips for a situation like this so far it hasn't caused me any problems with a healed tattoo I just hate to hear about my client having a bad healing process.

    • @FiresideTattooNetwork
      @FiresideTattooNetwork  8 років тому

      I understand. It is sometimes hard to tell and your'e right that everyone's skin is different. If it's not happening regularly, then I would just keep doing what your'e doing. Especially if there is no scarring or other issues that are hard to fix during the next sitting. Good luck

    Truly solid work, Jake. Just curious whether or not you can recall what speed you ran your machine at (while working the violin body) in the video....

      Zac Has thanks a lot. I probably ran it between 6.5-7v

      Thanks for the reply mang. Gotta say, and by no means is what I’m about to tell you flattery - your UA-cam videos are hands down the best/most informative and insightful, tattoo videos I’ve come across...and I’ve spent much time perusing through what’s available. Way to elevate the creativeness/consciousness here, endeavoring to rid the industry of the narrow-minded bullshit that’s all too common amongst egoistic artists living under their rocks....pretending we operate in a vacuum. Big fish, small pond syndrome. Anyway. Keep up the good work brothaman🤙🏻

    Love this style ! Another great vid ! What are you running the pen at for the painterly style? And what's your depth on the needles set like to be able to be able to build up layers like that? The usual 2mm (ish depending on part of body) or would you use shallower for layering ? Definitely a style I love and am interested in! Top work! 👌🏻

    • @FiresideTattooNetwork
      @FiresideTattooNetwork  8 років тому

      Thanks. With that big 23 mag, I'm running it around 7v. I really don't know my needle depth as I constantly adjust the grip based on where I am working on the body. It's fairly shallow though

    is he pushing or pulling back? i was always told not to push forward when tattooing.

    • @FiresideTattooNetwork
      @FiresideTattooNetwork  8 років тому +1

      People have all kinds of crazy theories about how to get ink into skin. I am mostly pushing forward but there is no set way to handle a tattoo machine just like there is no one way to make a paint stroke. That's what makes us all unique mark makers
