This is real entertainment. So 1950s, but reimagined with creative staging and new performers. What an evening of song this was, thanks to Bernstein. He will be remembered for his musicals rather than his very unmelodic symphonies and concert music.
I’ve always seen him as an amazingly prolific conductor- his interpretations of Mahler were superior!
I can’t explain how much joy this brings me!
This whole song is an absolute vibe
Notice how this performance is sung exactly the same as the original recording from the early 50s. This is because the Bernstein Estate, meaning the 3 Bernstein children, require that any performance of Bernstein music must be performed exactly like the original. So the new performance is musically a perfect copy of the original. This preserves Bernstein's work for the future. Spielberg's WSS had a musician on staff to insure the new WSS music would be a perfect replica of the original WSS musical.
And yet there are new lyrics to "America" in the new movie version, as well as "Somewhere" having been redone yet again. I believe you are confusing your above statement with standard copyright control which stops just anybody from making new vocals or reorchestrating. Not to mention, this rendition of "Wrong Note Rag" fails to meet all of the tempo bumps that are supposed to occur.
@@jarodhart9672The 2021 movie uses the 1961 film's lyrics for "America".
I never heard of this song before! A great performance.
Fantastique..... la musique...les interprètes !!!!!
Happy New Year'sって言ってる。日本の年越しは家で過ごすというのを驚かれたり珍しいようだけど、海外(アメリカなど)ではこんな風に年越しを過ごしたり新年を迎えるのね。
George Washington?
Does anyone know how much these singers make?

These sort of specialty events, especially the ones recorded for tv, are pretty well compensated
