Information on Life in Asuncion, Paraguay. Living in South America.

- I get a lot of requests from English teachers abroad to show some footage of where I live. I am not teaching ESL here, but I chose to relocate to Paraguay because of tax advantages, low cost of living, great weather, awesome people, and basically because I'd always dreamed of living here. Paraguay is literally the heart of South America and you can be to most any major city on the continent by air within 2 hours. For this reason, many major companies are relocating here and there are some very exciting investments. After I retired from teaching ESL, this seemed like the perfect place for me to work online and it's been incredible.

Income tax is only 10%... and income from outside the country isn't taxed at all. Tough to beat that.
Hello, I am Paraguayan and it makes me sad to know that there is no information about my country, but the comments here make me very happy. I am glad that there are many people who had a good experience in my country.
I know it's selfish, but I love the fact that Paraguay is relatively unknown still.
Very beautiful country 😍
I like a lot Paraguay 😍😍
Very beautiful country lov from Nepal 🇳🇵 Mt.Everest country ❤
Do you have email adraxer13
I left california in 2005 to live in Paraguay from the age of 18-21 in coronal Oviedo at my grandparents house. I was sad to have to leave again and I promised myself I would find a way to be able to move back and live well and thats exactly what I did. I learned to trade the FOREX markets and moved back in here to Asuncion in 2018 and wouldn't change a thing. its amazing to be able to make USD while living here. I love chatting with the locals and enjoying the tranquil life out here. great video bro. cuidate hermano
Awesome. I'm coming to Paraguay this year and I do forex too. :) pinoy_ako@mail.com
But I don't speak Spanish, how many % of populations or college students able to speak English? I'm also from CA and want to move there to save on taxation and do you have to report stock profit/dividend income to the IRS? Thanks bro.
I lived in Paraguay for 2 years and it will always have a special place in my heart. I thought it was funny when you said you can't eat typical Paraguayan cooking every day because it is too much, I felt the same way but eventually got used to it!
By the time you get used to it it's too late.. and you need a new belt. Paraguay is awesome. Thanks for watching!
@@BenTeachesEnglishOverseas hi Ben hope the sun is shining bright your side......could u please tell me about life in Paraguay and is it possible to get permanent residency so that one can stay there as long as one wish for..........so that there is no need for changing visa for further stay and avoiding visa hassels....thanks.
You must be mormon right? :)
Hugo, please, I beg your pardon for I decided to answer this for you, instead of Ben. So, as I am brazilian, I have gotten to know some about paraguayan documents. I think that you will need a visa, and, as a tourist, you will be able to stay up to three months. In order to immigrate, I would ask you to read all the instructions on Paraguay immigration webpage, because there are some issues on that. For example, you would need to prove that you are able to live there for a while by the time your documents are being processed and analysed. You must pass on a medical examination, to analyse if you might have some diseases; must make a bank deposit in a certain amount of money, and so on....there are some issues to be fulfilled. And, for 2 years you will have only a provisory document, so will not be able to get a driver license. And....get to learn spanish and some guarani, so you will not be understood by people.
@@GIFPES thank you very much for spending some minutes of your valuable time to reply me.......if possible could u share with me your overall experience in Paraguay and the process of immigration through e-mail....lastly much appreciate your reply....wish u well.
@4:16 This is totally the kind of video I was looking for, Ben. Thanks! Hope you will post more!
Thanks, will do!
Informative, and it was great to see some of the city life of Asuncion. Enjoyable video, and I liked the casual tone of presentation. Watching videos on Paraguay at the moment, and this was a good one also. Thanks.
Nice job, thank you. Your video is my very first introduction to Paraguay (well, at least since my school days.) Looking forward to watching more of your content.
I could listen to it for waaaay longer! Looking at the streets, the shops, people, everything that comes to mind there, etc... Thanks a lot!
Please share both kinds of videos, Ben! Your teaching-related videos are great, but it's also good to see what makes the places you live in and visit great.
Thanks, Rick. I will.
Loved the video, very interesting to see the everyday activities. I like to observe the the street, road signs, the shops, the cars, etc.
I seriously love your videos! Your personality is great 😊 so laid back and real!
Thank you! I'm glad you like them. :)
Enjoyed you video. I am an former exchange student to Paraguay. Fantastic experience! Thank you!!!
My husband is Paraguayan, I’m U.S born but my parents are from Ecuador. I visited Paraguay and they are the most friendliest people I have met. The food is very filling! I completely agree
Agreed, their food is great!
Thank you Ben, very good commentary. Others don't comment on your subjects- so Gracias. Your slow steady cam shots are appreciated, not like the other styles of quick shots. Cheers, Dk.
This is great! I like that you're showing us the neighborhood. I can get a feel of what it's like! Cool
Hey! That used to be my neighborhood. On those streets I grew up. So many memories that I cherish. Since I moved to the States, I haven't had the opportunity to visit. And the fact the video is recent makes it perfect! It feels like being actually there. Thanks a lot!
You're very welcome!
Mbae teko?! ✊
Thank you, Ben. This was a nice, relaxed video; while I appreciate and enjoy learning from you, not everything needs an itinerary or to be crammed with information. Relax and enjoy yourself.
Thanks! I appreciate the feedback!
Loved it!! It was precisely what I was looking for. A video depicting everyday life in a far flung place. I like Asuncion. Wish you will pop into a grocery store and show us offers and prices one of these days. Thank you!
Thank you for watching. Here you are: ua-cam.com/video/r5CG9mCac54/v-deo.html
Gud one Ben, really enjoyed that. As you have mentioned, I am a beginner to know more about this country. Please come up with more urban and rural life style videos, and the possibilities of moving to this country.
I loved the walk in down town Asuncion Paraguay. I was just like being there. I lived there many years ago and I see things have changed for the better. I miss Paraguay and wish I could visit again. I lived by the Recoletta which a large Catholic Church with a very large unusual cemetery. It is worth a visit.
Came across your video when I was searching good vlogging channel who has vlogged in Paraguay. I liked this video of yours. Though this video is of 3 years back I would like to see more of such. ✌️👍
This video is exactly what I was looking for after watching Anthony Bourdain's Parts Unknown episode on Paraguay. Keep em comin.
Thanks. I didn't like how they hammed everything up and painted the country as some bizarre backwoods place...but I guess that's what gets views. Paraguay is beautiful with a uniquely preserved culture and amazing people.
Thanks so much! Great video and just what I was looking for! My nephew moved to Paraguay today! He's going to be living in the Chaco with his wife and her extended family, but it's great to see the main city! Beautiful!
My pleasure! The Chaco is incredible.
We lived in Filadelfia Chaco for several years.
Thank you for the video. I would love more information or videos. I will be moving their soon
Hey me and my sister are from there where u are filming this video, thank u so much for the videos, omg I miss paraguay
I love to talk and see more and more videos plz plz plz
I love this videooo!!!! Please do upload more :) Thank you!
Yes please more videos, very nice.☺
Thanks for making this video! I lived in the campo campo outside of Coronel Oviedo, so my experience was basically different in every way. No potatoes in my town, only mandi'o. It's interesting to compare. :)
I like these videos. I want more from other places you visit in Asuncion and elsewhere.
I loved the video. I plan to visit this year with my family. We hosted an exchange student from there for a year. We will be visiting her and her family. There aren't a lot of just day-to- day normal sites and restaurant videos.
I have another one called "What's the Food in Paraguay Like." Be sure to check it out! :)
Thanks Ben for introducing Paraguay
My pleasure.
I’ll be moving there soon, so thanks! Nice video
It's good that you are making videos of a place about which very less people know
Thanks for watching.
Good video-thanks for sharing. Good to see a real place, like locals would see (not a tourist video).
I’d love to see more videos of Asuncion
This is amazing! Thanks for making this video
You are very welcome.
I come in Paraguay since one year ago and it is for me a special lovely country i will come there Every year from now 👌👌
I'm from Paraguay and now I live in Spain and I'm so glad that someone finally shows how Paraguay is in all its realness
Thanks for watching!
Nice video, Gives me a little bit of insight. Yess please do more videos on basic monthly shopping basket and cost, cost of cars (economical) fuel and travel prices, apartment rentals, schools, bars, places of interest etc. :)
thank you!!!! As a future expat(u.s.) THIS is the kind of info we need.
Thank you for your enlightening on Paraguay!
Sure thing. Thanks for tuning in.
Hi Thomson
Do you know about Paraguay
@@utubnsb6703 I know my cousin live there.
I loved the tour of the town!! This is just as informational as any!! If not more informational in different regards lol
I'm glad to hear it. I tried to make the kind of video I was looking before before I went.
5:36, that’s my philosophy of life as well “I like to do the best with what I already have!”
Thanks for this video. I'm thinking about moving there.
I'm from Paraguay living in Denver CO.. cheers !
Actually it is really interesting to watch, I am just curious about South American countries, I think they"re lovely, but a bit underrated when it comes to tourism and travel.
Hello from New Zealand, I enjoyed your video, Asuncion appears nothing like I thought it was.
I'm glad to hear it!
Thank you for your videos of Asuncion. My family and I lived there for two years and I loved it. I now miss the life and culture, so seeing the scenery of the city is nice. Keep up the great work!! Do you have videos of Havana coffee shop, Super Seis or Mariscol Lopez Shopping??
I just have the video of Stock that I recorded before they kicked me out.
I like this because it’s not a video of only the best or good, it’s just real!
Please show us where the action is at in Asunción. Like downtown, nightlife, stores, women, life style... more about it. There are not videos about this country online. Thanks
Paraguay is awesome! I've left for the winter, but I'll make more videos when I go back. Thanks for watching!
ua-cam.com/video/Z4a8lePeRLg/v-deo.html
Thank You for sharing your beautiful city. in march 2022 I saw the flooding , I hope there is great recovery from it.
Enjoyed your video about Asuncion....spent a lot of time in Paraguay as a member of the military...it looks just like Asuncion.....yes...thought it would have been interesting to try to get a job there but was never able to do it...
I'm glad you enjoyed it. Paraguay is awesome, but the job market is bleak here for sure if you have bills you need to pay outside the country. You could teach for sure, but it's not exactly lucrative.
I love it! I was born in Paraguay came to the US when I was 4 I love it, food is very heavy lol
Great video bro. Rohayhu Paraguay!
This reminds me of walking through a small Southern California beach town. It reminds me of walking through Santa Barbara or Los Feliz in LA. I really want to visit. It's on my list. I always wondered about Paraguay. As he said, everyone knows about Uruguay. I never meet transplants from Paraguay. Thank you for this video!
I've seen a number of walking-through-neighborhood videos on UA-cam. It's a great way to get a idea of the area that way, looks like a nice suburb you have there.
Funny you are looking for a job when you dont have to. You must see teaching as that enjoyable.
Great video! Make more please, very realistic first head information! If you can make a cost of live video it would be great! Thanks again!
I’m from Asunción living in Japan do I really love this video being able to see the city streets. I was looking to see Asunción colonial style houses which are gorgeous but just not available unfortunately in UA-cam. Thank you again ✨
Why Japan? Do you teach English?
@@jacobsoto7228 I’m a resident now... married for 25 years; have worked in dream jobs... and living in Makuhari Baytown east of Tokyo... happy happy... of course I’d always love Asunción, the city were I was born ♥️
I just discovered you. Thank you for educating.
Thanks for watching!
Was born there and adopted to US and the state of things healthwise is atrocious and thinking of moving back. Its just so polluted and poisonous and filled with so many factors that shorten our lifespans and since I have dual citizenship really considering this at the moment thank you for the vid.
WELL DONE !!!! JUST KEEP ON DOING IT.
You could have walked by a Quiero Fruta! Love that place!
Good call!
Interesting thanks...I taught in Merida Mexico for a year, looks really similar. This is my favorite kind of youtube viseo, none of the Hey guys what s up shouting stuff. It would be great if the camera could move less tho, for those who get sea sick....Thx
Thanks, Arthur. I actually used the stabilizing function on this one and it still turned out that way. I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to these types of videos and mostly just use a tripod and yack into the camera.
Good video. Thanks for sharing. I have subscribed. I am from Chile.
Thank you and welcome.
Please upload more videos about Asunción and other parts of the country!
I liked this a lot. Thanks.
I got some insight in to the country unknown hitherto.
My interest aroused, after I come across the news on worrisome draught, that led to blockage of transportation thru river.
Thanx for brief interface.
I did such video, while was in Sunnyvale, way back in 2015.
its a lot like my country..yes please make more videos.
Thanks for visit my country!
I liked the video. I like these videos, Bc like you said, Paraguay is kinda a forgotten or unknown country. I've visited several Latin countries so I see similarities. I'd be interested in knowing cost of living stats. Thanks!
Sure thing! I'm glad to hear it. I'll do more Paraguay videos.
Peaceful country
Could you make a new video about cost of living or rent etc
Thanks
Hii I am from India can you tell me can we speak in English with Paraguayen people and how is the lifestyle for people from other countries ?
very cheap . can find 100 dollar apartments in cap[ital . can find 200 - 250 in america or under 10 thousand houses .. south america pick a country .. paraguay has cheap power as well.
cowpoke, it is not that cheap at all.... Yet, it is way cheaper than Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, for example.
That was interesting - thanks
My pleasure. Thank you!
I like this video as I like this country a lot. Can you post some videos of Villages and slums, how they live and their houses too.
Fantastic! More of these videos please but don't stop the great ESL content videos.
......not that we're demanding or anything.
Sure thing, Aidan! Thanks for watching.
very helpful. have been thinking of retiring there in about 11 years, or maybe E Spain. have been trying to get a good gauge of the lifestyle ect. before i visit. seems like a nice laidback place, and i hear it is CHEAP!, also pretty safe try walking with a camera or phone like that in some cities and say goodbye
It's a nice place. That said, there are parts of the city where I would not walk with my phone like that and I definitely still would not do it at night. The cost of living here is low. I definitely recommend anyone who relocates has some level of Spanish or be willing to learn fast...or life will be hard. I believe you already speak it, so you should be good to go.
I live in Argentina, and I went to Paraguay in 1998. It's a nice country, looks quite similar to Argentina in parts. I totally agree with what you said in the video- South America is absolutely beautiful and it's is so diverse, but when it comes to ESL teaching jobs, you're gonna have a tough time making ends meet, to say the least.
This is definitely the case for a lot of off-the-shelf type ESL jobs. I do have a few clients doing very well though comparatively speaking.
Excellent video. I'm interested in seeing what's on the street: Avenidas Savales Cue around the 1761 block in the Fernando de la Mora district of Asuncion.
I liked this video. variety is the spice of life.
Just an idea, and if you don't do it I would not care. But maybe do videos on ruins, or camping, or rafting. More what a tourist would do there. mention prices, best way to get to wherever.
I am sure there are Paraguay videos that are already out there, but I like your way of seeing things.
Thanks for the compliment! I'll look into these things.
I live and teach English here in Paraguay. Good info in the video!
Thanks, Big D! Where in Paraguay are you? (If you don't mind saying.)
Ciudad Del Este
Awesome. Do you ever go to Hotel Austria? The food is incredible.
Thank you so much Asuncion looks very nice
My pleasure!
A laid back stroll down the streets of your local suburb. Good, I had no idea of what this part of the world looks like. Is there a CBD area or central area with shops, restaurants and entertainment?
Definitely. I'll try to post some footage soon. Thanks for commenting.
thanks its a cool look
Young man if you wish to be successful you must go where the most money is being made and the most money is being spent . It's just as easy as that ! We enjoy your videos !
Ben I just came across your video . Excellent thank you. Are you still in Paraguay?
Great video man.
Love it that you show every day things that really matter about the place
Waiting for the nxt series of Paraguay
I like these kind of videos.
Awesome. Thanks for letting me know.
very helpful, thank you
You are most welcome.
Pretty good video ..! I am planning on visiting the city next year actually .. I wonder how is the Internet in Paraguay ? Is the speed pretty decent ?
I would enjoy a video or two that shows what the local cuisine looks like. Not even a restaurant inside, but more like street food.
Sure thing, Jon.
Thank you. Please make more videos of the city and suburbs. It looks very clean and quiet. How much would you pay for a house/apartment and car? Really enjoyed and subscribed.
Thank you Ben!
My pleasure!
@@BenTeachesEnglishOverseas We will be going to Paraguay soon!
It looks like a few parts of Miami, except the traffic is at a polar opposite
I would be interested in hearing what the future looks like for Paraguay. For example would you recommend buying property there?
I like vids like this. Can you do a vid making a list of your favourite countries to live in please
I will definitely add it to the list. Thanks for the input!
Love your videos. In your your narration you answer the questions I would have and make interesting points. Now I am interested in Paraguay. I have an M.A. in education from the University of Iowa. I have both elementary and secondary credentials plus an Oxford TESL certificate. Only 100 hour cert. I am 66 years old. Do you think I could tutor English in Paraguay or Vietnam? I just need to work part time but some countries don't let you work after a certain age. I couldn't go to Korea because they don't let you work after 60. I am healthy and energetic. I have lots of teaching experience so I don't know why they would not appreciate my qualifications and ability to teach. If you see this and respond, thanks.
Thank you!
un buen video!
Beautiful place 💕👍😀
Are you holding your camera or is it strapped on? Also, what camera are you using. Looks great and love seeing Paraguay. Thanks.
I'm just holding an iPhone 5. I'll try to make more of these. I wasn't originally planning to stay here very long back in December and left my GoPro and other stuff in storage unfortunately.
Hello Ben, can you please put some light on the Jobs and the Rent expense in Paraguay.. As I'm planning to move to Paraguay in near future, if jobs are available. Thank You... Very nice video..
