Thanks for posting, I remember this sound too from the late 80s to early 90s. There was also a constant white noise sound I would get a lot, like something from a space movie. I think it was signal jammers from Russia some people could hear their broadcast.

His radio had a very wide reception range, it groups signals that are slightly apart from each other. There are several different transmissions and signals that are mixed up in your receiver. Radio amateurs have more sophisticated receivers, with narrower filters, which allow separating these signals individually. In this audio I identified many signals in telegraphy and some signals of "Beacons" that are small transmitters for analyzing the conditions of ionospheric propagation of radio signals. There's nothing mysterious or impressive about it, just a cheap radio receiving (and mixing) a bunch of common signals.

Thank you, it's an excellent answer and it sounds very logical to me. Now, question... Can I still find these signals now days using a better quality radio??

@@CICatinga Not only these in telegraphy and beacons, but there are other infinity of signals that didn't exist at the time, modalities of digital communications in the shortwave band, modalities like the FT-8 that produces a very "strange" sound for those occasional listeners. Yes, there are different receivers of the most different technologies on the market, from the range of a few Dollars to the most sophisticated in the order of thousands of Dollars.

This I think appears to be a clutter of different signals, I think I may be a mix of SITOR and Morse code which are commonly used amateur shortwave modes.
