I agree. I started 3 years ago and liked learning about the different styles but didn't focus on that. I stressed about the curriculum part. I'm a product of public school and the fear of picking the wrong curriculum or having my child get behind took over. I finally realized, I can't do any worse than public school. lol so that lifted a weight from me and made it more joyous for me. I'm kind of a curriculum nerd. I love watching videos about ones I don't use to learn more about them. I'm eclectic because I want different styles of learning for my kids. And I needed to dive in to see what would actually work for them. I had one child in public school through 7th grade. I took him out and felt a little lost because I didn't know what worked for him. This past year has been me learning what works better for him so I can tweak it for this year. I am happy to say he is choosing to do high school at home! I'm excited and have incorporated a few classes where we can learn together! I buy almost everything biblically based for my kids so I'm constantly learning with them.

Totally agree!!! Don't put yourself in a box. Build your own box that can be modified as the years go on.

100% Why box yourself in? There's SO much out there in regards to homeschooling curricula, unit studies, etc...

I agree. We are eclectic so we do all sorts of styles lol. So we just pick what we want based on the curriculum

Homeschooling is like an entire different world that I never knew existed. I had no idea about types. I just stared homeschooling them with curriculum and materials I liked! Styles confused me and I still don’t like to label! I guess it makes us eclectic, but all styles work for us in different ways and in different subjects at different times! Thanks for this video!!!❤

I just saw another video about this same subject. You can't pick a "style" if you haven't even done the style when you are starting out. You need to find what works and not box yourself in. Where I am is no where near what I was when we started 5 years ago.

We are eclectic too! I agree. You should know about the styles, but you don't need to be a certain style, unless you want to be.

It is so good to remove these arbitrary barriers that stop us from accomplishing things that are important to our lives.

I agree. I had no idea what type of homeschooler I was. I picked an all in one and learned from that what worked for me and what didn’t. I still use components of that curriculum I just learned my children needed a more traditional route for math, language arts and reading instruction.

I agree!! I could have saved myself so much time, energy, and frustrations. Of course I’m a completely different person now than I was way back then, so I would have totally picked differently looking back.

If you start homeschooling and your desire for your first year is to use traditional methods, then you don't necessarily need to research styles.
The problem I see is that a family picks a traditional approach, everyone is miserable, and then they declare homeschooling a fail and quit.
Another scenario is a newbie trying to choose from 1000 curricula choices and not knowing how to eliminate some.
In that scenario if you look at styles and keep your worldview and even preferred denomination in some cases in mind, the options are narrowed down a lot.
