Brewing an English Ordinary Bitter

  • Flavourful, smooth, and low ABV...it's a great session beer! Give this a try, whether you can serve on nitro or not.
    Basic recipe:
    UK Pale malt - 87%
    Carastan malt - 7%
    Special Roast malt - 3.5%
    Carafa Special III - 2.5%
    Mash @ 152F / 66.7C for one hour
    Mash out at 168F / 75C
    100g EKG hops, 5.2% AA first wort hops.
    60 minute boil.
    84g EKG hops at 15 minutes remaining.
    90g EKG hops at flameout.
    UK yeast (I used S-04). Ferment at 67F, raising to 72F by end of fermentation to ensure attenuation.
    Low carbonation.
