The fact that Leos and Jennifers character never kissed nor slept with each other makes it even more touching, you can really appreciate that knowing leo gets laid in every movie. Beautiful action packed and touching movie.
That's a great point! I've always assumed they hooked up of screen after the scene where they are talking at the orphanage, but having them never go that far is more original and endearing in a way
For me it is the best movie of all time storyline acting music and the pure emotion that the movie provided and what true love a man has for his family!!! And for Mr. DiCaprio not to win an Oscar for this is criminal he had the perfection of a new accent the physical toll I’m sure he did most of his own stunts and most importantly a man that had nothing to lose became unselfish For the human good and kindness for others
I wholeheartedly agree with ya regarding Leo, especially seeing as how i don't even think he effin got nominated in the first place, (if i remember correctly off the top of my head), - let alone losing to some other nominated film. He also could/should have gotten an Oscar win for "The Departed" which came out right around the same time, and if i remember correctly hew was actually nominated for his performance in that movie. It was these two movies that my opinion of Leonardo as an actor changed drastically. He was great in "The Aviator" and "Catch me if you can", but some reason at the time I still thought he was just some pretty boy who was beloved entirely due to his good looks. But when i was this one and "The Departed" - i was blown away to say the least! They're legit both in the fifteen to 20 greatest acting permeances of all time imo, so the fact he didn't take home an Oscar for either performance - is a travesty! The only two other Oscar snubs that were as bad or maybe even a lil worse - was Val Kilmer's performances in the "Tombstone," and then playing Morrison in "The Doors." Otherwise, i really can't think of another example egregious as Leo's snubs.
I would argue that the fact that there isn't 1 main scene shows how good of a movie it is, it's not like there is a bad scene. It's one of those movies where you could pick any scene out of context and it would still hit, like if you just saw a clip of it on youtube and it makes you want to watch the whole movie again. The dark knight is another example of a movie without 1 pivotal scene because every scene is amazing
I would say there is an iconic moment, at least for me - “Sometimes I wonder... will God ever forgive us for what we've done to each other? Then I look around and I realize... God left this place a long time ago.”
Blood Diamond, and especially Danny Archer/Leonardo DiCaprio, made me go down the Rhodie rabbithole. If a movie makes me go down a rabbit hole, it's S tier. To add to this, Leonardo in this movie made me realize he's actually one of the only actors I've seen that actually aims down the sights while firing. The only thing that could have made Leonardo's role better would have been a Rhodie FAL (well, R1), but the Colt 733/CAR-15 in the later scenes of the movie is respectable as well. Fun fact: the Colt 733 in Blood Diamond was originally made for the movie Black Hawk Down!
Fun fact, it used to be the exact same Movie armorer company that delivered the prop guns for both movies, thats why our "retro carbine" was also seen in BHD
I feel like it’s a top 3. Number 2 is real steel and number 1 is iron giant. Iron giant has a really good quote where the giant says “I am not a gun” and it has memorable moments too
China Bru, Howzit? Dead right, and the gospel struth: 💎'Blood diamond'💍 is the best movie ever, hey. Not only for Rhodesians, (and we are not gonna say 🇿🇼) So now now, I have a lekker chiboolie and make a braii 🥩🥓🍖 in the garden, ek se. Catch a complex and have a🦁 shumba. Cheers 🍻
Having just watched this film, I thought this video, and the comments, were pure sarcasm. What a load of rubbish this film was - formulaic, it certainly hasn’t passed the test of time, grounded in white saviour narratives.
On the other hand, thanks for making this and engaging with film analysis on UA-cam. Although I must say, I fully disagree. Have you seen Michael Mann’s Heat??

There’s a theory that Danny had AIDS
"Well of the record, I liked to get kissed before I get f***ed huh"

Best scene is when he's shooting the "blood diamond" carbine. "Archer you're a dead man!" "Yeah, yeah." *fires*

Agreed. The fact that it's 2 hours and 20 minutes but doesn't feel like there are any wasted scenes really is impressive

KInd of reminds me of the Spy Kids 2 quote "Do you think God stays in heaven because he too lives in fear of what he's created?"
Yes blood diamond earns 6 stars over 5 ,never cant beat but shutter thai version 2004 stands tall

I never notice whether or not actors look down the sight. I'll have to start paying attention!

@@limol5375 Yep, it was Bapty & Co who provided the prop 733 in both iirc.
The 2 best scenes are Solomon screaming at his eyepatch boss in prison, and then Solomon reuniting with his family but learning his sons missing
Map Of The Human Heart, Full Metal Jacket, The Piano, Beau Travail ...... Blood Diamond. Awesome. Really liked your review, Evan
Thank you so much, John! That means a lot.
I love decaprio's two less popular movies, Blood diamond and Body of lies, these two movies are so cool.
Agreed. Body of Lies is one of the few deep cuts in Leo's career
The actress Farahani made that movie pop.
Colonel Coetzee conversation with Danny is my favourite scene
It does a good job of showing how Danny became the person he was
Its in my top 10 for sure. Under-rated.
Production value is there bro you have good editing
I appreciate the kind words!
The tension in this movie is palatable
@@WilliamKinsey-dx2dn palpable? yes i agree anyway
Its a good movie considering this is the only movie I know so far where Leo plays an actual role, not another version of himself
This movie is masterpiece 🔥🔥😅😅
One quotable line, That's for Breaking my TV Bru, classic one
That's a good one!
I'm going to use that on my ex-roomate if I ever run into him.

@@evanpanther I will be waiting!
Great movie.
This movie has at least 1 good quotable line. "Yah yah, yah yah"
The best movie I saw from 2007 until they stopped showing around 2010 and a good encore any night.
I dont know .. whenever i feel bad i watch this .. acting of leo and houson is class apart ..
