The history of the song is extraordinary. It's a British song written by Ronald Binge. To celebrate the crowning of Queen Elizabeth. It proved popular in Germany and became popular in the UK in its German versions. It became symbolic of peace and forgiveness after WWII

    Elisabeth Serenade
    Hör mein Lied, Elisabeth
Hör das Lied aus ferner Zeit:
    Von der alten Allee
    Klingt hin es zum See
    Und von jedem Baum,
    Es ist wie ein Traum,
    Elisabeth

    In der Abenddämmerung
Geh'n wir beide Hand in Hand
    Durch die alte Allee
    Hinüber zum See
    Und lauschen voll Glück
    Der Zaubermusik,
    Elisabeth

    Schatten der Vergangenheit
    Schau'n herab vom alten Schloss
    Und sie flehen dich an,
    Ach, sei doch gescheit
    Versäum nicht die Zeit,
    Sonst tut es dir leid.

    Hör mein Lied, Elisabeth
Hör das Lied aus ferner Zeit,
    Öffne Herz ihm und Ohr
    Und auch jenem Chor,
    Der zärtlich erklingt
    Und Grüße dir bringt,
    Elisabeth,

Elizabethan Serenade is a light music composition by Ronald Binge. When it was first played by the Mantovani orchestra in 1951, it was simply titled "Andante cantabile", although the original orchestral manuscript parts in Ronald Binge's own hand show the title "The Man In The Street" (possibly the title of an early television documentary).[The name was altered by the composer to reflect the optimism of the new Elizabethan age beginning with the Accession of Queen Elizabeth II in 1952
The piece won Binge an Ivor Novello award and it also had chart success in Germany (recorded by the Günther Kallmann Choir) and in South Africa. A version with lyrics by poet Christopher Hassall called Where the Gentle Avon Flows was released and the work also had lyrics added in German, Czech, Norwegian, Swedish, Finnish, Dutch, Danish and French. The piece was used as the signature tune to Music In Miniature on the BBC Light Programme.[
In 1970, a reggae version called "Elizabethan Reggae" by Boris Gardiner & the Love People was released. (This was initially erroneously credited to the track's producer, Byron Lee and the Dragonaires.)[

Hi Sitedezynz, You may be right on that point. My rationale for the question was
when was it written not so much for whom or why. As Queen Elizabeth's coronation was in '53 then I am pretty sure it was written for that rather than her personally. Thanks for your comment. Cheers from Sydney, Oz.
