  • We talk through an incident that occurred on ROYAL Caribbean’s Grandeur of the Seas this pas week. What happens when a cruiser gets TOO drunk while on a cruise ship? Is Royal Caribbean doing the right thing by offering unlimited drinks in their drink package? We compare Royal Caribbean to Carnival Cruise brands such as Carnival Cruise Line, Princess Cruises, Holland America Line, and Cunard in this latest JJ Cruise story from the sea. This is the latest cruise news in tandem across the cruise industry where all cruise lines are making cruise cutbacks for cruise passengers onboard cruise ships during 2024 we ask the question- should the cruise lines change their policy for offering drink packages onboard these cruise ships?! What do cruise ships do with passengers who are not aware of their surroundings while at sea? How do Cruise Ship Crew handle these naive cruise passengers? Are cruise ship passengers okay with cruise lines going to unique cruise ports and experiencing local cultures? We talk through verified experiences of Travelers getting too drunk and this could happen to you when vacationing r onboard Cruise Ships including the worlds largest cruise ship Icon of the Seas or soon to be Star of the Seas 2025, and even the worlds smallest cruise ships. This could happen on any Caribbean vacation but unlikely to happen onboard many cruise ships whether on the Worlds Biggest Cruise Ship Class; or, the Smallest Cruise Ship Class and every Cruise Ship in between. What are your thoughts on this story and the unlimited drink packages being offered on cruise ships cruising around the Caribbean on their Caribbean Vacation 2024?

Limiting to 15 would not help that situation. She probably had far less than that. Three drinks in a short time would put me in that condition. The big difference is that my husband isn’t a thoughtless jerk. That, and I don’t feel a need to pound drinks down like a college kid. It’s called being a grown up.

We saw something very similar to this on NCL a couple of years ago. The difference was that the servers kept serving this extremely intoxicated lady (no sig other involved). She too, was taken to her room in a wheelchair. It was cringe, because all of us at the small pool were just waiting for her to vomit.

I am not a fan of carnival's drink package but I agree with Carnival and this is a rule they got right. Unfortunately, they have a bad enough rap as a "booze cruise" line. RCCL probably doesn't have a limit just to one-up carnival.

First, you are assuming it was from the alcohol, 2nd Carnival only allows you 15 drinks period within a 24 hr and will not allow you to purchase any thing after that. Last year on Carnival a gentleman fell and burst his head in the club and you could tell he was drunk. So 15 to unlimited you just got to hope someone cares enough for you to tell you.

To me, forcing the wife to drink when she was three sheets to the wind and putting her in the pool sounds nefarious to me. Was he trying to injure her and then set the cruise line up for legal action for over serving her? Taking her back to her room instead of the infirmary could have still helped him if he had more alcohol in his room. It used to be that some of the basic unlimited packages drinks, save wine, were made with lower proof whiskey. I think since folks caught on, that has changed and no matter how low the proof is, if you shove enough down your throat, it can get even drunker than if it was full proof. But cruise staff is afraid to confront people for all kinds of offenses, from aggressive behavior to chair hogging to cutting them off. Maybe its time to expand security forces to do rounds in problematic areas more?

I wonder why ships even have lifeguards and security if they do NOTHING in situations like this? You as cruise vloggers have some influence, you should contact RCL's equivalent to John Heald and let management know exactly what happened. Their crew needs more training. It seems most crew on all cruise lines need training in how and when to intervene in situations. Not just violence but line cutters, loud music, weed, audience show disruption, drunkenness, chair hogs, unsupervised kids, kids in adult areas. Everything that wrecks cruising for others. The staff should intervene and get the guilty parties under control or escorted to their cabin. Why have rules at all if no one enforces them?

Staff has to be ready to intervene and if customers get mad, so be it. I don’t buy drink packages because they are too expensive for the amount that I would drink. But, who knows? it could have been a combination of meds and alcohol. The issue was the woman was incoherent, not capable of taking care of herself, and her cruise companion was clearly an AH who was not caring for her. Staff need to intervene more quickly.

They even confined her to her cabin for 24 hours she was so bad. But she went right back at it as soon as she got out. When I was a younger man, I paid good money to go on a party barge excursion in Cancun. On the excursion, a crew member challenged everyone to a beer chugging contest. Well, I could chug beer with the best of them, so I took the challenge. I lost, but it was close, so I tried again. I tried again five or six more times and I always lost by about half a second. That guy could really chug beer. And I was hammered. I could barely walk. I can relate to the couple you saw -- when you're young and you pay for an "all you can drink" package, you want to get your moneys worth. It doesn't make it right. But I get it.

Drink packages are simply absurd, hundreds of dollars to get “free” drinks at the bar. Buying ala carte drinks is the way to go, after a normal two or three drinks a day you are way ahead of the game.

This cruiser was far too drunk well before a 15 drink limit would have come into effect. All cruise lines, including Carnival, can cut a person off at any time such person is too drunk, regardless of the number or if they have a drink package.

  • @rron3278
    @rron3278 4 місяці тому +1

So yes 15 drinks are a lot however being you are on vacation and maybe have a higher tolerance for alcohol if you have your first at 10am and stay up until 2am that is a drink an hour. If you are drinking in my case a light beer there is a very good chance I will not be intoxicated. I say punish the ones who take advantage of it, maybe ban them for the rest of the cruise from drinking (I’m sure that would make people think) but don’t punish the people being responsible who can handle their liquor punish and limit the ones who screw up. That’s the problem with this world everyone gets punished for the one who screw up.

  • @jennifera4350

When you first saw the situation, you should have alerted the ships crew that there was someone dangerously drunk. Why wait till she might die?
Good that your friend did eventually do something however, no way should anyone have allowed her to have more drinks after that. Really you should all have been speaking up about what you witnessed immediately when the security guards arrived too.
Neither cruise lines has a reasonable policy. Any bar on land at least in the US would be responsible to a degree. There should be a very strict limit. either none, or at most like 2 or 3 drinks per day plus the ability to cut off anyone likely drunk even with that. Peoples alcohol tolerance can vary from as little as none being safe (especially if pregnant or taking medications) to tolerance for large amounts.
Remember this is at sea, people have drowned or fallen overboard. Not only does it put them at risk, but it puts everyone else at risk. Some people become violent and belligerent when drunk. Really this problem is that the cruise companies you are talking about prioritize profit over safety of passengers.Personally i think it will take a number of deaths and law suits till they make changes.

Where do I begin? You won’t like this but if it was a homosexual couple you would have not cared one bit. I say this because you went well out of your way to shame them. Yes they appear to have been drunk, they were engaging in dangerous activity and yes the lifeguards should have intervened immediately. They did not. The life guards failed at their job. My question is what the hell did you do about it? What did anyone else do about it? Oh people told the woman’s husband to stop. You did nothing, the other passengers did nothing but guess what? Even though Royal Caribbeans life guards were questionable with their lack of action, they did get ahold of security and security took care of the situation. Now… your trying to make controversial content, I know, but how in the hell do you know if they had a drink package or not? Wait you do not. These people could have been paying each drink individually which means this situation could have happened on a Carnival ship. This situation had nothing to do with a drink package and it had nothing to do with whose drink package is better managed, more responsible, etc. The bottom line is this, that couple messed up, nobody did anything to intervene (you and your man were worried if the woman would get sick and interfere with your ability to get into and enjoy the Solarium pool. Royal Caribbean handed the situation and if that couple was embarrassed by it, oh well, it was their own damn fault. I am sure Carnival would have wound up doing the same damn thing.

What about just letting some adults be stupid adults? If I understood you, you were on five weeklong cruises on varying cruise lines where many had the unlimited package, and because you saw one or two people being irresponsible It’s time to set an unnecessary limit on thousands of other people? Which cruise line lets you pay for the drinks after the 15 limit? Because I can guarantee you every time I’ve been on a carnival ship in the last decade, once you hit 15 that is all the alcohol drinks you can have until 6 AM the next day.

Everyone on Carnival is cut off at 15 drinks now. If you have the package you can't buy more drinks by paying for them separately. People used to stop at 14, have the bartender ring up their next few drinks separate from the package, or have a friend buy their next drinks, then have number 15 right before bed. To stop this they started the 15 drink limit for everyone last year (IIRC)

I’m a 4 star Mariner with HAL (374 cruise days and counting), and while I have reached my 15 drink limit on occasion, I have never been stopped from paying for the 16th. I assume that is because I don’t pond them back non-stop in a short period of time. From a business perspective, a cap of 15 pre-paid drinks is appropriate. Regardless, customer safety and limiting legal implications comes first.

I hope since you guys have lots of content coming we will see some of the ships & areas you went instead of you just sitting in front of the camera & talking.
In the world we live in security can no longer just step in & put hands on someone, it’s sets them up for a lawsuit & even if the cruise line is in the right they usually settle & it costs them a lot.
If Carnival’s limit is 15 per 24 hrs but then they can continue to pay full price & drink then that isn’t limiting their drinks, it’s just costing them more. So neither line is limiting to a number for 24 hrs. When per vacation sometimes they seem to leave their brain at home & do things they normally wouldn’t. I hope that the case here but if it isn’t then she needs to leave him asap.

I do like the flexibility of the Royal drink package; the Premium includes the "good" coffee in the coffee shop and sparkling water, which I like to have with my meals, as well as mocktails and soda. Between all those and the alcoholic drinks I could see getting past 15 drinks, especially on sea days or at Coco Cay. I'd have to try pretty hard, though. Maybe post a limit per hour? That should be common sense, but not everyone has it, it seems.

Obviously, this makes it uncomfortable for everyone else in that part of the pool deck. When what you are doing disturbs the other passengers, their behavior needs to be corrected. The woman was in danger and they absolutely had to act. I know only certain ones on a ship can tell the passengers, "No"! You two go on so many cruises, so you have a better chance of encountering certain negative behaviors than we do. We all need to behave properly in public and not disturb those near us. As for the drink package limit, the cruise line wants people to buy it, so they do not want to turn people off by setting limits. As adults, we need to set our own proper limits.

I agree with Carnival about limiting drinks on cruises, due to a percentage of those drinking becoming violent, abusive and dangerous. Including a condition which happens from the depressant known as alcohol, where in it cause the body's anamonic response system to fail. For example, the woman in the story being passed out in a pool, she could have very easily drowned, due to being highly intoxicated causing her epiglottal flap to fail to seal over the airway to the lungs. Including, vomiting and aspirating it into the lungs which can also cause drowning as well. The woman's husband sounds like a massive jerk, forcing alcohol down his wife's throat to the point that she dies, from him doing so. No one has the right to force anyone to do anything that they don't want to, especially if it isn't good for them.

With Carnival enforcing their rules, a LOT of the people are moving over to Royal. We did a side to side of Royal and Carnival and we noticed that on Royal, the smell of the devil's lettuce as well as people blaring their bluetooth speakers was quite prevalent. On Carnival there was none of that. However, on Carnival there was one family that was problematic for everyone on the cruise. Fighting, someone from the group stole someone's S&S card and used it in the arcade...Plus just being overtly hostile to everyone around the pool deck. It was Thanksgiving and half of the family didn't know how to act in public. Over all though, the Carnival cruise was WAY more enjoyable.
