We bought a tiny little kei car - a Suzuki Cappuccino - earlier this year with one goal in mind; making it quicker than the current go-to entry-level sportscar, the Mazda MX-5. Has Mike accomplished his goal? With the help of Abbie Eaton, let's find out!

What should we do with Yuki now? 🤔 Thanks to Car Vertical for sponsoring this video! Check if your car has ever been damaged or stolen with a 10% discount with CarVertical here: www.carvertical.com/gb/landing/v3?a=DriveTribe&b=1e4c9523&voucher=DriveTribe
well you named it "Yuki" which is Japanese for "snow" and usually a feminine name
so how about a gender swap?
Engine swap with a better engine, new lightweight wheels, grippy tires and some bit of aero.
The Cappuccino stared in a Legendary episode of the Anime Initial D. It would be fun to see Yuki in full on Downhill Racer/Drift Runner setup.
Get another priject kei car?
I think that if you develop this further, you will dilute the purity of your concept. I would suggest selling it on, especially as I'm keen to see and hear the V10 MX5.
Sell it to Hammond as a large sports car.
💀💀💀 dammm 😂
🤔🤣🤣🤣🤣
SAVAGE
underrated comment
Nah, he'd just crash it.
Chatting with Abbie afterwards, the tyres didn't end up being that bad, apparently on par with the Yokahamas on the 1.6! So all Yuki really needed was a slight suspension tweak and caramel digestives to take the 1.8. What a car.
Quite exciting. Hopefully this motivates people to go out and work on their own Cappucinos.
Yuki should do around 54.5 with those tweaks and decent tyres
I have a same car with stock power and 195 yokohama AD09 and AR1 it is too much grip lol
Very cool. 🌲🌲🌲
Dębica tyres are ok for daily driving. Its polish brand that belongs to Goodyear group right now. Passio mounted on this Suzuki are economy level, but way better than cheapest chinese ones.
Those are Dębica tires from a Polish manufacturer that falls under the GoodYear group. Just an FYI for those curious
Also back in the 1970s their tires were used to set a non-stop drive record, remember? :) Then you could get a Stomil Rekord tires for your dinky eastern block car ;) (Dębica was split from Stomil (who still makes truck, airplane and whatnot tires) and sold to GoodYear)
But yeah, now it's become a budget brand, they do make better stuff at Dębica (the city/the plant), but never under that name :)
yeap, entry level tires for city cars, manage on dry, not really on wet ;)
As a 1.8 NA owner i can tell for sure that the Cappuccino window is rolling up more than 2 seconds faster then an old miata one 😂
You're not wrong! :)
Hahah I usually have to assist mine
Great seeing Abbie here. Glad she recovered. What a great little car. Definitely a keeper.
Love the video but my only criticism is the music should be less prominent when you've got the lap footage with engine audio
Or at least play some eurobeat since that goes with racing
@@VcArena works only when there's no engine and exhaust sounds
@@c63w204W initial d had exhaust sounds with the music going.
Same thing on More Drivetribe BTS, behind the scenes. Ramming the music too much
TELL EM TO BRING OUT THE CAPPUCCINO
I call her… cappuccino!
Those tyres are Polish brand Debica. They're owned by Goodyear and manufacture their own brand as well as Goodyear, Dunlop, Fulda and few others. They're not bad although not track tyres.
MX5 videos from both DriveTide and Overdrive. Nice. (Abby needs to race Scott)
Worth noting that the earlier 1.6 MX5 is 115bhp.
I wonder if the later 90bhp 1.6 can be upped to the earlier 115bhp.
Yes, you can. If you swap the early 1.6 cams into the later 1.6 you can get roughly the same power.
I can't remember if the later 1.6 had the lower compression pistons that were in the automatic cars as well, but either way, swapping in the earlier cams make a noticeable difference.
this is the fairy tail ending some of us have been waiting for. great job on Yuki! such a wonderful series.
Those are Polish tires from a company called Dębica in Dębica, Podkarpacie voivodeship.
I kinda want to see Yuki take one more run with proper tyres on to see if it can shave a tick off that time.
Given how Yuki behaved in the corners, tyres couldn’t do much unless the ride height is raised as she was bouncing like a kangaroo 🦘 in the corners
I think you should do a tour to stelvio pass. Take lots of cars below 1000cc like a Smart Brabus, Honda Beat, AutoZam, Daihatsu Copen.
Maybe some stiffer antirollbar on the Suzuki would help a lot
100%!
4:00 dębica kinda legendary polish tire company now budget part of goodyear. back in my childhood we had only Dębica or Kormoran on our fiat 125p
If you stand far enough back at the right angles these Cappuccinos look almost like 90's Viper GTS. It would looks awesome with some white racing stripes and a big T-wing on the back.
I'm not convinced that 1.6 is standard LOL. Pretty sure the exhaust is aftermarket (I suspect MX5 Parts or Cobalt) and it looked too flat through the corners to be on stock suspension. It also has a headlight vent, which is another nod to suggest it's not standard ;).
Edit: Also, look at the ride height on the 1.6 compared to the 1.8. I know Mike said towards the end the suspension was new and suggested it was OE but I'm not so sure....LOL
Awesome video, though.
You're runing Dębica tires, it's a polish comapny with a lot of heritage, and since 1995 it's been owned by goodyear
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY! abbie is back!! great to see her toodling around a track again!! my wife is totally ok for me finding a cappuccino at some point, she agrees they are adorable and look really fun to drive
All that work to tie a stock Miata. Well done! Guess I won't be selling my Miata today. :)
The slow window roll-up was a little bit hilarious
Great to see Abbie back and giving it the beans.
great to see abbie back behind the wheel
I've never even seen a Cappuccino in the US, but I've driven several iterations of the Miata and loved every one.
Haha - that was a very Hammond-esque victory dance at the end there. Cool to see the upgrades making such a tremendous difference. Would b every cool if Uki could go to a fan in the UK!
My honda jazz has 100hp and is really fun to drive....wonder what time it would do round here. Plus it's on Michelin cross climates
wheel spacers , semi slick tires and then try :D
Congratulations to Yuki and welcome back to Ms Eaton! Great video!
How much did it cost for the build? Is it any cheaper than an MX5 at this point?
if the turbo is stock then maybe upgrade it to hybrid internals not sure what gains you would get from it like
This motor made 110hp in the arctic cat t660. Im sure you would be able to get it to a similar power level.
Tyres, ride height and set a new benchmark and then a series testing the difference created by various aero parts 😂
I would love to see a b16 or some sort of cool high revving 4 cylinder engine swapped into this.
The set of tires are from Debica, its a polish brand, nothing fancy
My dad has two of these, one of which he still dailies. A really lovely car, and can carry a surprising amount of stuff. He also suffers from the rear brakes being a bit stuck!
As for what you should do with the car, I think you should maybe sort out the suspension set up a bit, but don't modify it further, because that would destroy its character.
I once carried a xmas tree in mine. Passenger side roof removed, base down in the footwell - easy. A bit draughty mind🤣
@@maleagerlemitee676 Funny that - my dad's done exactly the same thing!
why did you go for the 90hp 1.6?
I’d say you can go on a road trip with Yuki, like the boys do with the cars
Start a new race series for 600cc vehicles with Yuki as the star, and then keep improving the little Cappuccino
Try a Mazda track day after better tyres, scare some people, a hillclimb for giggles, find some fun spots biggers cars can not fit, find some other sports k cars . . . little cars are a ball!
So happy to see Abbie back!
Go Yuki! Oh, and more Abbie on the channel, please!
Find a similar tuned AE86 and have the real life Initial D battle. Haha. I'm sure Hot Version probably covered it, but it would be cool to see them pitted together with Abbie at the wheel.
That Suzuki is such a cool little car!
It was a weird premise considering a Cappuccino is about $3000 - $5000 (I know import costs make them more expensive) more than an MX-5 and then a bunch a money was dumped into it to beat a stock MX-5. Hard to celebrate that kind of thing. MX-5 was already the underdog that beats other cars. I would wonder if we could take Yuki further and beat something that actually costs more to buy...
Nice to see Abbie driving again! Let's see that v10 MX5!
Wide arch it tastefully . Fit advan 3 spokes . Fit a bigger turbo, and injectors .
Get the car sideways
Love Yuki. Love Cappas! Well done all round 👌
Bro's jacket is phenomenal
I'd say motorcycle engine swap little Yuki. Doesn't have to be a crazy hayabusa engine. Just something with a little more power, but mainly for the sequential gearbox and High revs. Cheers
put tyres on, fix ride height, and go for the fastest time!
@drivetribe It's a polish tire brand called Dębica
Now the question is, how much money was spent getting the Cappuccino to this point?
Tires brand - DEBICA is a Polish budget tire manufacturer owned by The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. Much better than cheap chinese products but definetely not a performance tires ;)
Which is faster the electric window going up or Abbey’s lap time in the Suzuki 😂
Dębica tires - econo level from Poland, part of Goodyear. better then Chinese no brand, still - only Michelin
Glad to see Abbie back on track!!
The cows look totally impressed.
Always great to see Abbie
Sincerely, I love Abbie.
I think you put a 4wheel drive unit on it and sell it to Clarkson for his farm. He can use it to race milk around to his restaurant.
The proper question is what rubber to put on it for the real test
Turn it into a rally car and do some stages I recon it would be great
When will the BR193 release? It was scheduled for today but I don't see it on steam
Would love to see it against a 2.0 MX4- NC1 (2006 ->).
As a 1.6 owner, nice! Congrats!
You are a cleaver man , just find some mates and you have here a new top gear of our generation.
Seems kind of apples to oranges as you gave the Suzuki better power to weight and improved suspension....just to tie with a MX5?
Take it to the nurburgring and misha to do a lap in it. It will be hilarious to see the fear on your face
DEBICA is polish tyres producer. It;s ecnomical class. Not Michelin/ Pirellis level.
Give abbie the jaguar and stig also... it has that challenger whine in its engine... let them " bring it to life" 🙏🙏🙏🙏pls
bring on a k10c turbo, its the swap i plan for my 84 swift
Make a replica of the Suzuki Cappuccino RM from Gran Turismo 5 and 6.
The tires are from Poland, brand: DĘBICA😉
Next episode
Can it beat a classic deep sanderson 301
I'd love to see just how far you can go with Yuki. Go extreme with upgrades and enter hill climbs, time attacks etc.
Dwight shrute energy after that lap
Keep it and take it a step further. Can it compete in a kei cup race?
Better tyres, a bit of aero, tune the suspension, make it a Time attack weapon, but still with the 0.6 engine.
Isn't it obvious? Give it a proper set of performance tires and have Abbey run it again.
Great to see Abbie back doing what she does best in cars that properly suit her driving style!
Love the progress you’ve made with Yuki too! It’s great to see these little Kei sports cars pitted against cars so much bigger than them, I’d love you to get a lil Honda Beat to go with Yuki too, he needs a playmate of his own size!
Aerodynamics of a convertible with roof down?
Bit more power, new tyres, take it club racing :)
full blown race car spec's but keep it same engine. front splitter, weight loss i.e. window motors excessive plastics and rear spoiler, finally new rubber that's sticky!!!
Still think the headlights of the Suzuki looks like the old Mazda Eunos ha
Class job. I'd be interested to see ths power figure without the brakes!
Take it all the way. Max out the capabilities.
Mike! surely she now needs to head to the nurburgring to be put in the hands of Misha Charoudin! 🏴🇩🇪
keep improving our dear Yuki. Maybe real Yuki will improve as well in his Alphatauri
I think you should turn it into a time attack car which can still go on the road
Yuki just needs a K swap and some sticky tires!
when V10 miat
Race a Eunos import mx5, import to import and see how it goes?
こんにちは。日本から見てます。カプチーノの1997年製の最終型に乗ってます。
Hello. I'm watching from Japan. I'm riding the final model of Cappuccino made in 1997.
Keep it and make Suki a GIANT KILLER!
Do you think different rubber would have given her another second to a second and a half?
I wish I could get one of those Cappucinos over here, without it costing MX-5 money.
I really don't see why you want to know if a modified Suzuki can go around a course faster than 2 old MX5s. What's the point? It would make some sense if you compared the Suzuki to itself before and after modifications and the cost of the mods. At least that would be useful information.
Put a hyabusa motor in it. Make it nuts
