John Carpenter's "The Thing" and "The Fog" were both vastly underrated when they were released. I saw both in the theater when I was a kid and loved them. And I love them just as much today.
I found The Fog frightening and a good horror film. I can pretty much guarantee the stuff these other people complaining think isn't boring would be a complete joke to me. I mean, it's fun and I like it and all, but if they don't get The Fog that says something. I didn't care for The Thing as much because it was too absurdly gross, which didn't add to it for me, just made it an unpleasant experience. I don't agree with the critiques I've heard about it though, other than that it's excellent. The Fog is the kind if movie it's easy to ignorantly knock, but if you watch it with a suspended disbelief, or if someone shows you it without telling you it's a horror movie, it's very effective. Also, it's a well made piece of craftsmanship. It's a great movie. Not often I actually care about the characters in a horror film. They always say that's the objective but never deliver. I had a stake in their struggle... normally I wouldn't mention that because it's really not that important in most horror even though everyone pretends it's there, but that's a big part of why The Fog is effective. If you are just looking for kid shit it has nothing for you, though. That is true. Go watch Hellraiser 15 again, you'll be fine. Heh.
The most underrated film they reviewed is Resurrection. I saw it one time, and many years later I can still remember a great number of scenes from it clearly. I chose not to see it again because many of those scenes were too painful for me to see again. Ellen Burstyn deserved to win the Oscar for her part, and it's a crime that she didn't; though she was nominated for best actress.
It's crazy the amount of films they watched. Truly was a job to do, going to see films of genre / topics you really don't care about or flat-out dislike. Further, it's hard to appreciate what this level of movie watching would do to your viewpoint and criticism of films. It would be very easy for it to make you cynical, and it makes sense sometimes just how much they hate certain aspects of a film, due to being so run of the mill. All of us have gone to movies we didn't really want to see for some reason or another, and basically just sitting there checked out mentally and not paying attention. But for them, they had to pay attention and take notes for the purpose of reviewing.
@@steveprice2718 In Japan : it was a HUGE hit ! And here it has a "cult" following . I know someone that paid to have a small. replica of the house made.
This is the first time I heard them explain that a "yes" next to their name means they recommend the film. Kind of surprising they actually felt the need to explain this.
I still remember to this day, watching their review of it when I was 7 years old. It scared the crap out of me! I truly believe it sent me on the path to becoming a lifelong horror fanatic.
They both voted 'No' on John Carpenter's 'The Fog', stating it wasn't scary enough.... what?!? I loved their show, loved their arguments, but sometimes they just missed the mark. I still remember at 9 years old, hearing them crap on 'The Thing'. When I saw it on video a few years later, I realized they weren't slways right about everything lol!
Shew them both giving Popeye a thumbs up is a stretch. Especially specifically recommending it for the holiday season. So many parts of this movie simply did not work at all. It may have had a few moments, but that doesn't redeem it as a whole.

Miss these guys.
So do I!
"Terror Train" was NOT "extremely bloody"! There was almost no blood at all in this one!
...nor was "Fade to Black", which Gene called a "bloodbath" !
Wow, neither of them liked The Fog. Time has been kinder to it!
I thought The Fog was boring.

The Fog rocks it
The Fog is quite lame and tame.

These compilations make me very happy thanks for posting these!

Two no votes for "Somewhere In Time"? A classic "chick flick" that guys liked too!
Now, Somewhere in Time is highly regarded love story with underrated performances.

I forgot half of these films...
Dumb ass
The Changeling scared the hell out of me.
these guys are on crack. the changeling is brilliant.
I really liked it too. Agree to disagree with them on that one...🤷🏻♂️
Roger Ebert gave "Motel Hell" a thumbs up and gave "The Elephant Man" a thumbs down? This was America's best movie critic??
PopEye, a good flick? What were Gene and Roger smoking?
It is. Dumb ass
*I saw 'Cruising' one night at an art house theater in Beaumont, TX in a shady, shabby neighborhood for a shady movie.*
Jeez. Gene got it wrong about 9 to 5. Thats a great film still.
How could Gene give 9 to 5 a "no"?
No kidding. Just wrong. The fuck, Hero at Large, yes, but no to 9 to 5? Idiot. Gene, I love him, but he was often frustrating.
Boggles the mind. Solid comedy.

Roger gave "Motel Hell" ***** in his book! I love "Motel Hell"! One of my all-time favorites!
I still remember to this day, watching their review of it when I was 7 years old. It scared the crap out of me! I truly believe it sent me on the path to becoming a lifelong horror fanatic.
The conclusion of the longest episode ever
"Raging Bull a terrific picture" - Yeah, if you have insomnia.
Rick Vinson wow

Agree with gene on any which way you can and stir crazy but he is wrong on 9 to 5 but right Robert de niro winning the oscar.
Before the thumbs up!
Ive seen nearly all of these films!
They liked Popeye?!?!?! Oh good lord.
"We're both smart!" - Gene Siskel was so full of himself.
They were both smart.
If you have to remind people you're smart...
Shew them both giving Popeye a thumbs up is a stretch. Especially specifically recommending it for the holiday season. So many parts of this movie simply did not work at all. It may have had a few moments, but that doesn't redeem it as a whole.
did they review xanadau
Gene Siskel is a very old looking 34 year old
It's the hair loss.
It's amusing that Ebert liked Motel Hell. I usually like stupid, sleazy crap like that but thought it was dumb as hell.

Cruising. Lmao. I didn't hate it that much.
They should have reviewed dressed to kill
They like Jimmie black Smith ??? lol their opinions on movies are weird
Popeye ??? Seriously
Divine madnes... ugh
Back then if thumbs down on the Frank Film . then thumbs DOWN
On them .
Seems Like Old Times is hilarious.
Very!
Chase's best film.
Cruising is junk. Cynical and leering. Blah.
Motel Hell is a brilliant satire of the Reagan era.
Reagan didn't take office until the year after it came out, dummy.
Kinda impossible since RR was not elected until November 1980 and the film released earlier in August... whoopsie.
How does one satirize something that hasn't happened yet?
Duhhhhhh derp, duhhhhhhhhh... everyone, a Democrat
The era that had yet to happen!
At least 5 of my favorite movies are from 1980 an outstanding year for movies and a lot of crap too lol
Crazed lesbian lol
