What angers me, is using mental health as a get out clause. Members of my close family suffer major, long lasting serious mental illness. The thought that mental health issues make you interested in child porn , whilst being capable of holding down a regular job makes a mockery of mental illness.
Absolutely 💯 agree! Hugh Edward’s is a deviant. Mental health should not be permissible get out card for this type of crime, nor should “I was abused as a child’, neither are sufficient reason to hurt another person. Regardless of what is said Hugh Edward’s made a CHOICE to engage in this type of behaviour he was not some hapless innocent. He knew right from wrong.
Mental health issues do not make you be a Nonce. It's just outrageous.
What annoys me even more is the way they word that he can't remember looking at the images as if he was in some deep psychosis and wasn't aware of what he doing. He can't remember (which is lie anyway) because he was blind drunk. Like is it okay to kill someone now and get off with a slap on the wrists because you cant remember getting behind the wheel of your car after a binge drinking sesh? The mental health thing is an absolute joke anyway. He had depression apparently (like half the population) and Daddy didn't pay him enough attention as a child so apparently that makes it okay to do what he did. What's even more sickening is the guy who sold him the images also only received a 12 month suspended sentence. Like its not a coincidence that they both got off with it. Another case of he has dirt on people in high places so some strings have been pulled behind closed doors.

Justice must not only be done, but it must also be seen to be done. This is not justice nor will the public think it looks like justice.
Have you read the magistrates full decision or just made your own mind up based on your own preconceptions ?
It “must be seen to be done” is not the same as justice being done. It means people must think that what they have seen is justice being done.
The system isn’t about justice, it’s about securing public buy in to maintain the status quo, and Huw is just another example.
@@jjefferyworboys8138 I have read the full decision, and I'm more disappointed in the sentencing decision now than I was upon reading the headline.
For those thinking of pursuing more understanding of the specific laws & the case, I do not recommend researching the exact laws on this or what describes the types of images referred to in the judgement, some of the context and descriptions make for difficult (and upsetting) reading, especially in the context of the age of those in some of the pictures in this case.

This guy PAID for many photographs (as I understand) -- including graphic photographs of an actual horrific, pain-inducing, assault of a 7 year old child. If that is true and the Judge felt this made Edwards "no risk" to children -- I honestly wonder if (1) Edwards has incriminating evidence of someone far more powerful who influenced the judge, or (2) there is a serious problem with the UK's judicial system's ratification of S.A. of children. That is the message today's release will send to other offenders. I don't know if the judge has a child or grandchild -- but would he let Edwards babysit? Let's see what happens. This was a bad day for the Brits. A very bad day.

@@calvinfatman7918 Yes the justice system is out of whack passing on hurty words, jail, trawling for UAP suspended sentence, it's ludicrous, the people jailed for social media posts will have no respect for the law because it's so wrong (Neither do I, it's not a deterrent anymore, apparently it's for rehabilitation), even people who don't pay the BBC license get treated worse!?!
There's no hope left for our so called civilised society, your so called profession will see to it . Congratulations
The establishment looks after its own...
Well well well, Former BBC Presenter Huw Edwards, he’s suspended for 6 months❗️ I’d love to suspend him, he obviously didn’t say the right ‘hurty’ words too, but still NOT going to jail👀…Typical BBC staff, what do we expect🤬.. Just keep £££ paying your BBC licence Fee folks
That is a particularly infuriating part of this whole mess.
The BBC is the government's brain washing and indoctrination arm, and he's an officer of it!

Absolutely! I've heard stories of people who started with little to no knowledge but made it out victoriously thanks to Christina Ann Tucker.
'Deterrent' is the key word. This sentence is NO deterrent.
So you would be happy losing your job and being on the sex offenders list ? A massive deterrent for me.
@@jjefferyworboys8138 Not a sufficient punishment, he was entrusted with a high status respectable position and also was part of the demand for 'that sort' of abuse which helps perpetuate the supply of that kind of abuse.
Mental health tends to decline when you get caught
Those poor children are still victims he should be made to pay
He only bought the pictures, he did not distribute them. The real guilt lies with the reprobate who sold them on the dark web.
They are victims yes, but possession of images charges very rarely are custodial. The problem and backlog is just too big
@@tancreddehauteville764”ONLY” bought the pictures? If there weren’t buyers for these things, these heinous things would not happen as much!
But never mind, it’s “only” children’s lives that get ruined heh!
@@tancreddehauteville764 With respect, that is exactly the kind of comment paedophile apologists make, you are downplaying his offending and blaming it on the other party. You are also failing to acknowledge the damage done to these children because of men like Huw Edwards. You also fail to recognise that with SA images of children it is a ‘supply and demand’ issue.
Any normal person who got child abuse images sent to them would of called the Police..Goes to show he's in the Gary Glitter Gang..!
Anyone now caught out in similar circumstances can now demand that they also get the same none sentence.
They will get the same sentence! It's nigh on a standard sentence for a first offence. People are rightly unhappy at the sentence but claiming preferential treatment and all the other nonsense on here is distracting from the root of the problem, that being government sentencing guidelines and an unwillingness to pay for enough prisons.
You said in the main channel video that the reason FB riot post sentences were so harsh is because judges want to send out a clear message...but that implies that judges don't feel a need to send a similar clear message about Huw's crimes?? Which implies that his crimes are somehow more tolerable and less severe?
I think there was an immediacy in the violent disorder
@@blackbeltsecrets I would argue that immediacy is about how swiftly a case is dealt with and less to do with sentence issued; a similar immediacy could have been achieved with a swiftly applied fine/community service order/criminal record/suspended sentence (i.e. that would be enough to deter most others, which would be the aim of immediacy...) In any event just to say that I enjoy your work and both your channels - and I would say you do a good job at remaining impartial. So "respect" as they say.
@blackbeltsecrets tbh I think it's more because these rioters pose a possible threat to the political system. They are letting people out earlier with far more sinister, and public affecting crimes.
@@blackbeltsecrets There was a flash in the pan. People vented and it ended naturally. Of course, those that went too far deserved to be punished. Jail for a 'mean tweet' ? Really ? The iron fist approach thinks it has quelled the root cause. All it did was put things on 'simmer'.
@@noelward8047it wasn't going to end naturally. People tried to burn down a hotel with people in.
"No danger to the public" : Would you want him round to babysit?
If somebody purposefully downloads, asks for, views and keeps such images, then common sense dictates that they are complicit in the creation of said images and should be handed the same sentence as the creator..... in a perfect world.
Your channel is a gem, sir, your input and opinion is priceless. Keep up the good work.
My thoughts exactly. If there was no market for these photos then the children would probably not have been horrifically abused, Edwards was the market and is therefore the indirect cause of the abuse and thus complicit. The children get a life sentence, Edwards walks free. Disgusting ! There is never any mitigation for this type of behaviour.
Thank you for this, I agree with you about this. As someone who has had chronic depression for years I find it annoying that mental health is used as an excuse for serious offences.
My depression is improving as I no longer feel like I don't want to be here anymore.
Take care and best wishes
Best wishes to you and I hope your mental health can keep on improving. I totally agree that mental health should not be used as an excuse/mitigating circumstances for serious crimes. It encourages an accused person to make up or exaggerate mental illness, just to receive a more lenient punishment and takes up the time of mental health care staff when there aren't enough specialised staff to treat the genuine mentally ill and waiting times to see a counsellor or therapist can be up to 2 or 3 years. (3 years at my local hospital because they are very short-staffed and then one therapist went off on maternity leave twice within four years). Also, when mental illness is clearly used by an offender to get a reduced sentence, some people could well conclude that most mental illness is fake. It is not of course, as you will know only too well, but such blatant misuse of conditions such as depression, is not helping those with genuine illness. I have had severe depression for over forty years (but have not, as yet, committed any crimes). Take care x
I think sententeces must act as a deterrent to others and a suspended sentence is actually no sentence and so is not a deterrent.

Problem is that the public at large are powerless. 😢😢😢😢
Will the victim's life ever be the same again? These people live a life's sentence because of a vile individual.
I once said to a policeman that the law was an ass. He said’No, but the application of the law is.’
That seems quite wise and perceptive of the policeman.
Living in a rural area where we see almost nothing of the police, the area's rural police very occasionally conduct a "Come and Discuss Police Work in the Area" meeting at our village hall, offering a free cup of coffee and biscuits. I was persuaded to attend by a friend, who explained they needed to make the numbers up. No one was asking questions so I asked what the police officer thought of the way a recent disturbance in the area had been handled by the police. The police officer looked completely blank. He claimed to know nothing about it. I think he must have been faking ignorance so he didn't have to comment or express any thoughts on the matter but I couldn't help thinking it made him look very stupid because everybody else in the room (all 6 of them) knew exactly what I was referring to. Based on this short meeting, I felt the police officer was friendly, nice enough and trying very hard to be liked but not very bright or inspiring.
When you CHOOSE to commit this offence your mental health excuse should be dismissed.
I wonder if the judge would let him babysit his grandkids?
Just from my little common sense point view, a country that gives a suspended sentence to a man who uses children the way he does and looks at the images he does but sends a person, w/ no prior dealings with the law, to prison for a social media post is a country that is in Big trouble.
Judge: " ... I'm of the clear view that you do not present a risk to the public at large, specifically children ..."
Meanwhile, the former head of the Crown Prosecution Service is turning convicted criminals out onto the streets, to make room for bad tweets and walking near a public disorder which s/he may or may not have been involved in.
I think he was a public figure and they should of set an example knowing that it was going to get media attention.

It's almost like "someone" has a contact book of the great and good which he threatened to blab if he saw jail time. Plus, he still has his immense, index-linked BBC pension which license fee taxpayers will be paying for years.
Justice is based on how much you can afford!
Nope, I think that you will find this is common practice for sentencing.
He could well have had, it would save him being Epsteined.
OR ask yourself: what would it look like if the elite shared a common sexual preference, and therefore deliberately reduced or removed any punishment for it?
Sadly, this outcome was inevitable. We have seen too many other cases of who you are determining how the "justice" system treats you. The only consolation we can take from the outcome is that, with such a well known face, Mr. Edwards will have to be very careful where he shows it. Personally, I also take some consolation that I long ago cancelled my TV licence and, therefore, no money of mine will find its way into Mr. Edwards' pockets
The phrase, "previous good character", only makes sense if it is taken to mean only that the person to whom it applies has never previously been convicted of a crime. To any right thinking person, of course, it means far more than that.
Final thought; of course (whatever he thinks), a barrister is not going to say that he thinks a judge has got a sentencing wrong.
Years for angry words.
Nothing for rich and famous dirtbags for crimes against children.
Our justice system is sicker than the criminals.
