Shapiro isn't a food critic - he's the CDC at Ever, Chef Terry's restaurant. We first saw him in the Forks episode last season. He's the chef who came out and screamed at everybody about the smudge plate during the staff meeting and finished his rant with, "Now get back to work! Fuck you, Garrett!" He's the one who plated the deep dish pizza before Richie took it to the diners. He's also in the first episode of this season, working at Ever alongside Carmy and Luca.

She hasn't signed the papers, shes not officially a partner, why should he give her the perks of a partner.
(this is just me playing devils advocate. He certainly is being ego-centric, but on the flip side she hasn't given him the signs like Marcus has)

13:40 if it’s any main takeaway from this season, it’s little moments like this juxtaposed from season 1. S1 Ritchie would never have let Syd intervene nor admit that he’s fucking up. Syd would probably have just let him fumble to some extent, or be eye rolling snarky with him. But look at them. Ritchie owned that he wasn’t on his game, and Syd organically played off him while not trampling him. She even reassured him at the end. If Syd was head in the back and not Carmy, the dynamic would be so much more reassuring I feel.
If that’s development, I don’t know what is.
yesss and as much as she is the glue of the restaurant, I think if she leaves Carmy will realize how much he messed up and took her for granted. It’ll probably force him to get it together too

Omg I’d be hesitant too about the partnership ngl… I mean, with the way Carmy is treating everyone? I honestly get it. Also, Shapiro’s offer is tempting, to say the least. I’d personally sign it for my overall sanity. He also seems like a decent guy who’s stable. I love Carmy, but he seriously pissed me off this season. He seriously needs to work on his problems at therapy… finally, my thoughts and prayers are with Zuff and his loved ones. I’m so sorry and we totally understand. Love you guys ❤️

I feel like this show plays the long game and Sydney does need to leave so that both she and Carmy can grow from it - maybe she goes back to The Bear after a while but Carmy has issues that he starts to face at the end of this season that he needs to look deeper at.
The guy playing Chi-chi isn't an actor - he's Chris Zucchero, the owner of Mr. Beef in Chicago, the Italian beef place the show was based on (they filmed the pilot in the actual restaurant). Zucchero has been lifelong friends with show creator Chris Storer since they were both in kindergarten together.
The guy working alongside him isn't an actor either. That's Paulie James, of LA's Uncle Paulie's Deli. No wonder his back and forth with Zucchero's character felt so natural; that's two people who do this for a living doing it on camera

Watching 2 episodes at a time helped me with the storyline and pacing. Like the next episode flows straight from this one. This break didn’t feel a cliffhanger, it felt like an abrupt interruption.

Adam Shapiro isn’t a restaurant critic. He’s the Chef De Cuisine from Chef Terry’s restaurant Ever. Remember when Richie was staging at Ever in Season 2 episode “Forks” he was yelling at everyone about the smudges on the plates & then ends it by saying “F*** you Garrett!” & Garret replies “yes Chef, f*** me”…that’s why he’s opening his own restaurant & trying to poach Sydney away from The Bear now that Chef Terry is closing Ever
He also appears in the first episode this season, working at Ever alongside Carmy and Luca. When they're all peeling peas and Carmen is blowing everyone else away, Shapiro looks over to Carmy and mouths "fuck", presumably because Carmy was clearly proving himself to be the best chef training under Chef Terry.

it sucks because as a viewer I don't want Sydney to leave the Bear, but if this was real life and I was her friend I'd be telling her to get the f**k out of there because she's not appreciated and valued, and Carmy has this double standard where he wants her to co-own the place but also won't consider her ideas and keeps leaving her out of the conversation and ugghhhh

I'm sorry, every time Claire is mentioned I tune out bc we never learn anything about her. She just exists to be a dream girl for Carmy. Outside of "nice ER Resident" who is she? None of her scenes do anything to tell us who she is beyond that.
Gary played for the Iowa Cubs (Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs), but never made it to majors, which we find out is apparently because of a failed drug test. If you get caught using PEDs in the minors when you're first starting out before you've ever made it to the big show, you're pretty much kissing your career goodbye.
