You are amazing! PLEASE PLEASE wear a mask when its appropriate. You're sanding Bondo and breathing in the dust. If not for you - PLEASE for my teenage son who watches every episode of your show. He is following your lead. NO Sheild when using machines, No masks use, and his fingers in the wrong place when using blades. PLEASE demonstrate the right gear. PLEASE - he is your paycheck and superfan. Do it for the young people.
2:32 AWESOME background trivia on _Riven_ ! I loved that game!! Edit: So I found out that Cyan, by the time they got Adam's dagger prop, figured out they could do the whole thing in CG and so did not use the prop. They still thought it was cool as hell and hung it up on the wall. It was only after _MythBusters_ started airing that they found out it was Adam's work, because he mentioned it in an interview. As shown, it now has a place of honor today in Cyan's lobby.
I actually prefer when Adam is left to his own devices in these builds instead of being constantly interrupted for updates. Feels like a more natural process.
As soon as I read this comment I immediately thought of the quote from fear and loathing in las Vegas and avenged sevenfolds bat country "He who makes a beast out of himself, gets rid of the pain of being a man"
Love the scene from 14:05 to 14:55 where it's completely quite and you see Adam focused, resolving, thinking, changing and figuring out how to do this, you see a creative men at work building something beautiful. Only the sound of tools making its way trough the project. Brilliant mind at work. I like that about this channel.
You should check out James May's reassemble channel (not sure on the name) but this show reminds me of it. Both very relaxing and interesting to watch. James May goes through those calming quiet moments too, where it's just the camera on him looking, thinking, planning and figuring out how things go back together.
I love the way this was shot - nice and quiet, and you only hear Adam talking about what he wants to talk about. No disrespect to the Tested team, but I really only care about what Adam has to say. Great ODB vid!
+Mike Dawson I agree completely. Adam always seems very genuine and relaxed during the videos, while the Tested guys seem out of place and try to force conversations and questions but it always just comes off as awkward.
+Silver Atlas adam has 14 years of tv experience, the rest of tested are journalists for the written medium, which is why they are so stilted and stiff. I bet most of them are introverts and not extroverts like Adam.
+chris vighagen All that said, Norm has improved vastly in the last couple of years, especially since Will left and he's hosting. He's so much better than he was a year ago - the awkwardness is pretty much gone, he is much more conversational than he used to be.
I envy you and everyone like you. The ability to just say "I want to make this" and just able to make it. I would give anything for those kind of skills.
I wish I were in your presence right now. If I was I would be grabbing your shoulders and shaking you while saying "YOU CAN AND DO POSSESS THAT ABILITY! JUST START MAKING!". Adam has dedicated his life to inspiring makers everywhere. You were just inspired. NOW GO MAKE SOMETHING! If you can't do it at home then look for a local Makerspace and join!
i'm sure you could make this and things like it Kalloused, something Adam takes to build in one day, would prob take many of us longer, we don't all have beautiful workshops and resources like that, we have to build up to it over time
For a moment I thought I was watching 'man at arms' right up to the point where Adam said "I'll be making this sword out of plywood and bondo" and then I snapped out of it like nope, we're back.
I love watching these older build videos. oh and thanks for talking about the rub and buff compound, my mom has an old table from the 60's that had metal wash coming off and thanks to that I was able to re-finish it for 8 bucks instead of the huge amount it would have cost to get it re-covered in gold leaf.
This is easily one of my favorite one day builds, I'm always surprised by how entertaining it is each time I rewatch it, makes me just want to watch until the next part is built, and before you know it I lost another half hour to this video. Cheers!
So much detail on everything you do, down to colours, perfect aesthetics and scale. Then you describe the stuffed creature was from "some game or another"... Haha!
At what point must something get to after death from it being a creature to the remains of a creature? To me, a pile of rabbit bones and a freshly expired rabbit are the same thing. A rabbit.
I love how Adam has done this kinda stuff a million times and knows what effect these techniques and processes are going to have but he still gets super stoked about it
I love the way you casually try it over your shoulder just for size...still with the tongue out 😜 Given me an excellent start for me to try making a master sword though. Thank you Adam Savage.
this is not how I would go about building a sword of this type but still great looking. Granted my focus is not on building the whole thing in a day, and I tent towards "contact safe" foam weaponry for LARPing. Foam weapons can be quite light and when properly balanced can be carried around at a con all day.
This channel is amazing, I was a huge mythbusters fan. One of the tested video kept popping up in suggested but thought it was just a one off thing Adam had done. Didn’t realise how deep the content went. And it’s still active so hope that doesn’t change.
You guys should put project dimensions in the description from the the one day builds because i bet there are alot of people who would love to make either identical or edit the designs and make them their own, i for one definitely would. I think giving dimensions and details would help inspire people to build their own stuff but also give them something to maybe work off of? I love tested and mythbusters, i love all the work thas you guys do, keep on making amazing stuff and keep on inspiring everyone to be creative!
I wonder why he didn't do more work on the hilt. Just seemed like some layers of tape. Excuse me if i'm being ignorant to what his intentions were. The rub and buff was an amazing touch, though. His weathering techniques are ingenious.
It's a blessing and a curse when you get discovered Adam so quickly at Comic-Con...you are so skilled and use such detail building plus your posting videos online the amateur sleuths figure it very quickly....
I nearly had a heart attack watching Adam parting off that piece so close to the chuck on the metal lathe with a wood chisel, one slip and it would have ripped his arm off and impaled him in one go!
It amazes me that he seems to just sloppily throw this sword together and in the end, there is a beautiful realistic work of art. Truly inspiring, he's a true craftsman.
Sanjay Krishnamurthy If you go back to 1:01 clearly the sword only has ONE edge and the demon on that sword has a brownish yellow skin tune also bleed red. So, I think somehow Adam messed up.
kinda late for this but looking at the shot from 0:48 it actually has 2 edges. i haven't read the comic books but googling 'hellboy sword' tells me he either uses bunch of different swords or the design is very inconsistent
My all time favorite thing is weathering. My all time favorite thing more is watching ADAM do weathering. So amazing. Aluminum tape? no way. Black spray paint? Hmmm. Steel wool on that creation. ..... . . . OMG! amazing. I love you Adam. I wish you were my cool uncle
Adam, you were always my fav in myth busters.... but knowing your a HellBoy fan AND MOST OF ALL THE COMICS makes you just..... 100 times cooler in my book.
i was so down... mythbusters left a big gap in my content consumption behavior-.... it can now be filled with tested... and i´ll be a happy man again. Thank you Adam!
If you draw it, some day Adam Savage will build it. Using his spare bag of rabbit bones. That's was awesome, though. Now I want a sword. And a baby demon. And an Adam Savage.
slendy9600 a guy makes one slightly larger than average sword out of wood and bondo and automatically you think he needs to collab with a guy who welds actual giant swords?
For those of you who don't know. He's talking about the game Riven, a sequel to the exploration game Myst. Not the League of Legends Character by the same name.
I use aluminum tape for my props too!! All the time! I’ve found that if you’re careful you can even polish it to a mirror finish. Our buddy Peter Lyon got me hooked on this compound he uses called Autosol.
What a wonderful claymore! (A claymore is a type of Scottish two-handed double-edged broadsword that is fully twice as large as the English swords of the same period. It sacrifices defense for the ability to land crushing blows with the blunt, flat sides of the blade as a way to incapacitate enemy knights without killing them. Not to be confused with the claymore mine, which is named after the sword.)
How about a crossover episode, now? Take your sword to the Stagmer Brothers (Baltimore Knife and Sword / Awe Me contributors) and see if they'll forge a metal one.
+TheDarkalkymist That may be, but easy doesn't mean it wouldn't be worth watching, especially since it isn't easy for most of us. However, if you need the extra challenge, perhaps reuse the rules they used on a prior forging: No 20th century tools allowed.

OH Of course! Let me just go to the BONE CABINET that everyone has in their machine shop...
LaceyBuggs Draws No sorry, but I like them a lot!
Tyler Cundiff The bone collector
lmao
Tyler Cundiff yeah. like a cabinet for psychopath souvenirs.
you know, they were working as special effects professionals? so, you need bones for this job - sometimes ^^
*casually opening the bone cabinet* "Ah yes, the bones from that dead rabbit I found the other day. Just what I was looking for!"
HAHAHAHA
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

+SeraphimKnight I agree compleatly
" 48 inches. That's how long my wood was"
Adam good sir, you are a beast of a man
As soon as I read this comment I immediately thought of the quote from fear and loathing in las Vegas and avenged sevenfolds bat country
"He who makes a beast out of himself, gets rid of the pain of being a man"
"I need to make it more demon like. Let me just go to my animal remains locker..."
Wtf
"I may even take a blowtorch to it."
I can practically hear that toy shouting, "WHAT?!"
Words & Whimsy same
"NANI?!"
Lmao I died laughing at that comment
Adam is sid in real life
Right !!! Its like huh? Im jus here for the 10 bucks. To take my pictures lmao.
Adam one day builds are why I'm subbed to tested. Thumbs up if you agree.
this was the reason why I first subbed but most of there videos are great so bonus for me and you
Jamie and Adam were prop makers for Riven? Man, I just love it when two of my favorite things just so happen to overlap. Riven was a hell of a game.
"Ahh yes, let me go over to my cabinet filled with monkey skulls." Something that can really only be said by dark wizards and special effects artists.
Yup. One more like.
Aww Yiss, these vids are just too good!
The enthusiasm and passion he puts in this awesomely professional work is just the best to watch.
Love the scene from 14:05 to 14:55 where it's completely quite and you see Adam focused, resolving, thinking, changing and figuring out how to do this, you see a creative men at work building something beautiful. Its so cool seeing how fired up he gets during the process of making this stuff. He clearly loves what he is doing. Thats dope.
+Mike Dawson 1 day builds are so great for hangovers
+Silver Atlas adam has 14 years of tv experience, the rest of tested are journalists for the written medium, which is why they are so stilted and stiff. I bet most of them are introverts and not extroverts like Adam.
+Mike Dawson I agree, well produced. Would watch again+++
+chris vighagen All that said, Norm has improved vastly in the last couple of years, especially since Will left and he's hosting. He's so much better than he was a year ago - the awkwardness is pretty much gone, he is much more conversational than he used to be.

kalloused you have the ability
seriously just grab some Shit from a hardware and crafts store and make something
Practice that's key
i'm sure you could make this and things like it Kalloused, something Adam takes to build in one day, would prob take many of us longer, we don't all have beautiful workshops and resources like that, we have to build up to it over time
Snakezase 29 money is key
22:50 "These are the bones of a rabbit... maybe some of these ribs could be useful" Probably the most metal thing I have ever heard.
Adams such a likeable guy I'm glad he didn't just go off the radar after mythbusters
Well he did to the larger public.
BONES OF A RABBIT? That's why his last name is SAVAGE
For a moment I thought I was watching 'man at arms' right up to the point where Adam said "I'll be making this sword out of plywood and bondo" and then I snapped out of it like nope, we're back.
As much as I love mythbusters I'm glad its over if it means we get more One Day Builds
I love watching these older build videos. oh and thanks for talking about the rub and buff compound, my mom has an old table from the 60's that had metal wash coming off and thanks to that I was able to re-finish it for 8 bucks instead of the huge amount it would have cost to get it re-covered in gold leaf.
I swear, Adam is like the EXTRA nerdy blonde uncle of Ryan Reynolds. Always worshiped this man. Love ya Adam, I miss Mythbusters. Cheers from Detroit
you and me brother, had the same thught
+thereal Noiapah Amen lol
who doesn't
+Da Magic Ninja haha Nice! I'm from southwest Detroit.
Actually, Adam is red headed but cause he is aging, his hair is fading.
*casually collects dead rabbit* 22:50
rory Donaldson disturbing mindset mentioned as a normale daily thing ?😆
How is it disturbing? Some people have a fascination with nature, animal's forms and the circle of life.
His last name is savage
I can't take credit for that joke 😐
It gave me an ad when I went to this timestamp. For Energizer. Whos mascot is a rabbit.
This is easily one of my favorite one day builds, I'm always surprised by how entertaining it is each time I rewatch it, makes me just want to watch until the next part is built, and before you know it I lost another half hour to this video. Cheers!
I've never had the patience to do this myself, but I find the process fascinating. Thank you, Adam, for putting this stuff up for all to see. :)
He doesn’t either, thats why he’s gotten so good.
This guy was blessed with one of the best last names ever.
+Grand Master Bushido Brown My college adviser's name is Savage. I love her.
although it makes me "hate everything"
+Grand Master Bushido Brown Imagine if his parents named him Baron Savage.
Hellboy is one of the most underrated movie series out there. I absolutely loved it and loves seeing you making props for it
i dont know why... but for me this is kinda relaxing
This is by far the best Tested video I've seen. All because Norm wasn't there to constantly interrupt Adam, ask stupid questions, or touch everything.
So much detail on everything you do, down to colours, perfect aesthetics and scale. Then you describe the stuffed creature was from "some game or another"... Haha!
Wait, he removed the bones from a dead rabbit he found, cleaned them, and put them into a cabinet in their shop?
Christoph Michelbach yeah little bit weird huh?
The rabbit was almost certainly long dead and the bones pretty much already like that. I'm sure he didn't extract bones from a fresh rabbit corpse.
Hunders He said he found a rabbit, not that he found the remains of a rabbit.
At what point must something get to after death from it being a creature to the remains of a creature? To me, a pile of rabbit bones and a freshly expired rabbit are the same thing. A rabbit.
Hunders To the point where there is no tissue left, obviously. That's also the point where touching it becomes substantially less gross.
I could watch this stuff 24/7. I love it. Nice job Adam. I miss you and Mythbusters already!
I love watching Adam think about everything he needs to do without saying a word most of the time it's intriguing I don't know why but it's just nice
Isn't that original monster from Temple Run?
Oh he actually says it at the end...
Joscha Teichmann Im pretty sure it is
It looks a lot like one of the monsters from Majin and The Forsaken Kingdom too!
Joscha Teichmann no its a grim plush from the rooster teeth show RWBY
Hayden Currier watch to the end of the video he clearly says it's the monster from Temple Run.
I love how happy Adam is when things go the way he planned them.
I love how Adam has done this kinda stuff a million times and knows what effect these techniques and processes are going to have but he still gets super stoked about it
Adam, this is when you partner with Man at Arms to make the real thing. That is a collaboration I would love to see!
+Chronos5618 I think Michaelcthulhu would be more appropriate :)
I get really happy watching Adam get happy at making the things he loves.
I love the way you casually try it over your shoulder just for size...still with the tongue out 😜 Given me an excellent start for me to try making a master sword though. Thank you Adam Savage.
Always loved watching Adam on Mythbusters, this was so cool to watch, wish i had most of this stuff readily available.
I love how adam just has a collection of bones and skulls stored away for projects.
Dayum!! I love the way your mind works!! I was watching this build, and doubting the demon. But it turned out awesome!!
this is not how I would go about building a sword of this type but still great looking. Granted my focus is not on building the whole thing in a day, and I tent towards "contact safe" foam weaponry for LARPing. Foam weapons can be quite light and when properly balanced can be carried around at a con all day.
Would you not recommend aluminum tape because it is more likely to come off after extended LARPing?
I really hope Adam does one day builds more frequently now Mythbusters is over. By far my favourite series on UA-cam.
+BOOF MOOSE Once a week now, enjoy :)
+Sean Fitzpatrick that is awesome!
It's the best thing to come out of the demise of Mythbusters.
+Sean Fitzpatrick I think that is the best news I've had all day! :D
Watching this in 2021... it's cool to see how much more sophisticated Adam's construction & engineering skills have gotten in the last 5 years
One day builds are like a trigger that shoot you straight in the shop to make stuff...
I couldn't agree more.
Wow!! Using metallic tape for the blade is genius. I'm so trying that!
Words & Whimsy
I actually bought gold metallic tape and it's not all that sticky
Aluminum tape is sticky as fuck.
This channel is amazing, I was a huge mythbusters fan. One of the tested video kept popping up in suggested but thought it was just a one off thing Adam had done. Didn’t realise how deep the content went. And it’s still active so hope that doesn’t change.
Hey Adam! You should contact Man At Arms and do a build with them for an awesome sword! you'd love it so much and so would we
He posted a picture of himself with Tony Swatton!
Its a one day project, he might not have had time
"Oh, let me just get some stuff from my cabinet of bones and skulls. What, you mean you don't have one of those?"
+Hiver that also was the most outlandish moment for me
22:22 opens deamon cupboard containing victim rests retreived from sacrifices
+Dennis Premoli LMAOOO
It's a blessing and a curse when you get discovered Adam so quickly at Comic-Con...you are so skilled and use such detail building plus your posting videos online the amateur sleuths figure it very quickly....
Hmm... How do I make this stuffed monkey more demon like? Oh let me just casually stroll over to my cabinet of bones!
Ayyy lmao
+Anonymous Animal I call it my body :P
Of course Adam has a poly bag full of rabbit bones....doesn't everyone? :D Also what the heck is that bear costume in the background for?
Knowing them, why wouldn't it be in the background?
Some Voodoo witchdoctor watches this video and saw the world will end.

Philip Nilsson the
Serenaar its for nicholas cage when he needs to punch a random cultist...
It's always a pleasure to watch a skilled artisan craft in their workshop. :)
I nearly had a heart attack watching Adam parting off that piece so close to the chuck on the metal lathe with a wood chisel, one slip and it would have ripped his arm off and impaled him in one go!
I know... people get sucked into the chucks of those big machines and die sometimes. They've got enough torque.
Hot damn! I could watch Adam do his thing all day.
It’s so great to see Adam, it’s been years, I miss the show soooo much
That plush is from RWBY!
*finishes the video*
I feel like an idiot, heh.
Mia Ray I can see the Beowulf in it
Mia Ray
Mia Ray thought the same thing... 'tis okay
i thought that was the thing that chases u from temple run
orange juice It is.
11:39 Adam surely thinks high of himself. lol
lol
very lols
omg
WOOD
RobTheXob there's all sorts of innuendo in this, from fully inserting wood to massive swords to stiff handles.
It amazes me that he seems to just sloppily throw this sword together and in the end, there is a beautiful realistic work of art. Truly inspiring, he's a true craftsman.
Adam Savage has a drawer full of skulls. Because of *course* he does.
All the pictures I can find of Hellboy's sword only has 1 edge so why did he make it with 2?
because it wasn't meant to be an exact replica, it was meant to be Adams version of it
IPrinzeX: because he is going after the look of the original cartton
Sanjay Krishnamurthy If you go back to 1:01 clearly the sword only has ONE edge and the demon on that sword has a brownish yellow skin tune also bleed red. So, I think somehow Adam messed up.
IPrinzeX it really frustrates me too, it doesn't look like Hellboy's sword at all, other than being really big D:
kinda late for this but looking at the shot from 0:48 it actually has 2 edges. i haven't read the comic books but googling 'hellboy sword' tells me he either uses bunch of different swords or the design is very inconsistent
The love this man have for his craft is awesome to look at!
Should have teamed up with Man at Arms for this one. Would have been cool to see Adam working with those guys in the forge.
Adam! wear a dust mask! We love to see your lovely face, but that stuff is bad to inhale in :(
*slaps roof of lungs*
These bad boys can fit a lot of grinder dust in them
Agreed! It would suck to lose Adam to lung cancer.
My all time favorite thing is weathering. My all time favorite thing more is watching ADAM do weathering. So amazing. Aluminum tape? no way. Black spray paint? Hmmm. Steel wool on that creation. ..... . . . OMG! amazing. I love you Adam. I wish you were my cool uncle
Tested and Man at Arms should have collabed for this!
+LieutenantNuggets You stole that thought right out of my head.
+LieutenantNuggets Better yet michaelcthulhu would have done it correctly.
Discovery should give Adam his own show where he does nothing but make all the fiction weapons he wants. I'd watch it.
I loved Adam as a model maker before, but knowing he had a hand in Riven, which I also love, just enhances how much I admire his talents.
I cried a little when Adam glued the demon to the sword.
+Rhys nuttall There's a reason that Hellboy left him on there.
I know but it wouldn't hurt to be able to remove it if you just want to showcase the sword.
You misunderstand. Demon blood = glue. One sword, one kill.:)
What stops you from hacking the impaled corpse from the blade? ;)
11:39 - "48 inches, that's how long my wood was". Man, Adam gets _really_ excited about Hellboy props, eh?
Did he just forget the leather that he was going to put on the handle?
That sword in general feels very rushed compared to his normal stuff, might've been a bit too much for a 1 day build
Is the handle just gonna be that paper tape? I thought you were gonna put some leather there...
Adam is why I am subbed to this channel.
Adam, you were always my fav in myth busters.... but knowing your a HellBoy fan AND MOST OF ALL THE COMICS makes you just..... 100 times cooler in my book.
Only Adam sees a roadkill rabbit and thinks "I could probably use that"
+Shane Burgel You could rip the tail off and use it as a play toy for a dog.. My dog goes crazy for it
AH! the pros use rub n buff too! awesome! I'm on the right track!
Ermergerd its William jakespere it's a small world I guess.
More like small internet
+MyDifferentUserName it's great to be here!
i was so down... mythbusters left a big gap in my content consumption behavior-.... it can now be filled with tested... and i´ll be a happy man again. Thank you Adam!
Dream job : Become Adam Savage
If you draw it, some day Adam Savage will build it. Using his spare bag of rabbit bones. That's was awesome, though. Now I want a sword. And a baby demon. And an Adam Savage.
It’s great that we can still watch you make stuff, awesome stuff, post Mythbusters. You are an amazing artist!
should've coloured the grip, it looks like a badass sword with a tape handle
+Captain Samstein Yeah. Leather strap would have made it.
i think Adam needs to do a collab with michaelcthulhu
Yessss
I actually got to this video off of one IrishMike's videos.
slendy9600 a guy makes one slightly larger than average sword out of wood and bondo and automatically you think he needs to collab with a guy who welds actual giant swords?
Timmy T-Rex Adam's made a hell of a lot more than this one sword... maybe do a little research before you talk shit
Great build!! Love the illustration that inspired it!
For those of you who don't know. He's talking about the game Riven, a sequel to the exploration game Myst.
Not the League of Legends Character by the same name.
He was the antagonist in Myst 3, the sequel to Riven.
Why'd you opt for the long sword style of tip instead of the 40° angle tip?
Yup what a plonker.
I was thinking the same thing
I use aluminum tape for my props too!! All the time! I’ve found that if you’re careful you can even polish it to a mirror finish. Our buddy Peter Lyon got me hooked on this compound he uses called Autosol.
Well done. Only thing of was the lack of the tanto point.
I love that he has a cabinet of bones...
Not to be confused with the claymore mine, which is named after the sword.)
hypercell101 you literally only made this comment to show off your historical knowledge.
Do you really think anyone watching a video like this _doesn’t_ know what a claymore is?
Sorry for the language, but Adam is a fuckin' mad man. Simply amazing.
You just found a dead rabbit, Adam?
Watching an enthusiastic nerd make something creative and goofy that he enjoys is the definition of pure, unadulterated joy.
Even though one of my Favorite Shows Mythbusters is off the air. I at least can see Great Videos like this
How about a crossover episode, now? Take your sword to the Stagmer Brothers (Baltimore Knife and Sword / Awe Me contributors) and see if they'll forge a metal one.
+Benjamin Nelson YESS YESS YEEEEEEES
+Benjamin Nelson i'd pay to see that
Or call up Michaelcthulu because he's actually known for making ridiculously large blades
+Benjamin Nelson would be a easy build, start with decent 1050 steel, hammer out the bevels and tang and basically done
+TheDarkalkymist That may be, but easy doesn't mean it wouldn't be worth watching, especially since it isn't easy for most of us.
However, if you need the extra challenge, perhaps reuse the rules they used on a prior forging: No 20th century tools allowed.
I like the time-lapse at the end.
What I sometime do is having a slightly longer shutter speed. It gives a little motion blur, which looks nice
