- Is your wood dust combustible? We test different sizes of dust to demonstrate what size particles will flame up in suspension, and thus pose a potential risk of explosion, and which will not.
For further information on combustible dust, please check out our knowledge center articles on the topic:

It is a shame that in 8 years this has so few views and and 12 comments. There are several animated/cgi recreations from work place regulators on YT, but none that take actual wood dust and demonstrate the difference. I'm amazed at how small of a difference in particle size goes from explosive to barely burns in the air.
Thanks for you feedback! Great that you like the way we demonstrate how fine wood dust may pose a potential risk of explosion.
This was useful demonstration, thanks
Great that you like it! It´s an old video, but still working to demonstrate what dust is combustible.
Thank you. Will help others understand this.
Well done demo. Have sent in on to a client dealing with coal dust.
Thanks a lot and great to hear that our video can support in matters concerning combustible dust.
thank you
You're welcome :)
I heard combustible dust and thought "yep that explodes"
When I worked building oak furniture, sometimes I'd take a box of fine sawdust home. When I was having a fire in my firepit, I'd carefully sprinkle that dust over the fire... And WOOSH! It would ignite just like a cloud of propane! 😮🔥 Kind of scary how fast a gigantic fireball would appear! Actually pretty dangerous 😱
Fun fact! Powdered Coffee Mate does the exact same thing if it's sprinkled just right 😮🔥
Thanks for sharing Elmo! Yes, combustible dust explosions is scary stuff and could cause really dangerous situations. That´s why it´s important to have the right safety equipment in your woodworking factory or workshop.
Muchas gracias senor. Me ha ayudado a comprender mejor el peligro de la explosion.
Wow, never heard of that...
Powder explosions are crazy.
They indeed are and could cause severe accidents with both people, equipment and premises involved. That´s why installing ATEX compliant dust collector systems are so important!
Do you think it's possible to generate enough heat to fire up compressed wood dust by just poking a hole on a compressed cylinder of wood dust and blowing compressed air through the hole?
This would cause mayhem
Yes, combustible dust is serious stuff! That´s why it´s so important to have the right ATEX approved dust collection system in place.
Explosive Dust! That's what they call me on the Tokyo drift circuit.
gebruik een losse microfoon, dan komt het spraakgeluid beter door
The commercial suggests that you don't know what you're talking about.
explosive dust
I mean literally dust of anything that can burn (even stuff that don't burn that well like flour)
