I was 11 when it blew. The previous day, it was nice and sunny. Then gray hazy skies. I was watching the Mariners vs. the White Sox game, and they kept showing a split screen of the eruption and the game.
I Remember , Very much !
We will never forget the people who died in that eruption.
As bad as it was tragic 60 something people died because in rural area mt. St. Helens is
I was just shy of 10 years old in Spokane when that volcano erupted. I even got the I survived Mt. St. Helens t-shirt with the goofy little cartoon characters getting evicted by ash and rock
I was supposed to start a new job that week but was delayed because my new boss to be got trapped in Yakima because of the ash.
I was 12, lived in Redmond. That morning ash coating on the cars.
My mom was in Vancouver during the eruption and said it didn’t get any ash during the May 18th eruption but they did during the minor eruptions that occurred the following months. My dad was in the Mt. Baker area and didn’t know the volcano had erupted until they went to town.
I was living on wiser lake rd. North of bellingham and herd the explosion. But we got no ash
Yup, I was living in Seattle when she blew up.
St.helens gave warnings in March 1980 and the volcano was bulging and then came may 18, 1980
I remember, was 12, very scary
I never heard this story about the plane getting hit by rocks.
I was five years old and I’ll never forget mainly because I was on the front page of the newspaper flying through the air. After my brother kicked me in my butt, the title tensions rise as eruption nears. No my brother was just a jerk. We were standing in line at a fire station waiting for a dust mask.
Had a little M1.9 at 39 miles deep just South of the mountain in the last 24 hours.
This is so interesting. I don't remember about this sight seeing flight. I was so worried about my brother who was supposedly driving on I 5 past that point at that moment. It turned out he'd gone south instead of north OMG we were so worried. And then I remember the footage and the poor old man that had died.
fortunately with it erupting no other volcano in washington will erupt in our lifetime.
Could you imagine if we did the same thing for Covid masks at every fire station and you had to go get them?
