Rogers (who bought out Shaw) is now forcing these on those of us with 'Legacy' PVRs (DVR in US). Only option is this streaming box for 'cable' TV. No longer can record shows locally. No longer can bounce between more than one show (one recording live, as you switch over to another during a commercial or something). If you change the 'channel' it stops recording, and when you go back, it starts again at the current 'live' time index. Shaw tried to give us one of these Xfinity boxes a couple years ago when we moved and we immediately hated it, so switched back to the PVR with a hard drive. Now they will cut off this service in September, for those of us in BC, and force these tiny streaming boxes onto us. There is no recourse as Telus and Bell are on the same thing, and delete your 'recorded' shows after 45 - 60 days. We are still avid cable TV watchers, and set the PVR to record things through the week. I can't seem to find an 'easy' solution to this, other than hacking together other devices or pirating things. Our SMART TV and Apple TV already have all these apps. I just want to record the network and cable shows. Is TiVo still around?
They are like the old show The Prisoner. You're trapped in a room looking endlessly for a way out but your captures know your every move. They along with Bell and Telus have a stranglehold in the Canadian Market and no new competitors to challenge them.
3 quarters of these streaming boxes are just trash. I think il stick with my Shield, which I've had since 2016 and it's never let me down! Best £180 I ever spent! Also $25 to watch a movie.....No thanks! Good vid tho! 👍
The cable companies know the customers are cord cutting so people aren't paying like they used to. They try to sell these little trash cans to make up the profit loss
The Rogers ignite box is $10 a month and you can't buy them. If you buy them off of Ebay them Rogers will still charge you $10 a month to rent the box.
Telus offers a streaming box like Rogers Ignite does. It does the same things that the Rogers box does, except the Telus box uses Android TV, and can be used like a chromecast with Google TV, and this box also has ambient mode available, and you can add custom photos to it to be displayed through the ambient mode settings, and it has access to the Google Play Store.
We have the same boxes with spectrum and Xfinity spectrum sent me two of them when I moved because cable TV is free in my condominium duplex surprisingly they have all the IPTV legal apps on the box so here you don’t have to use their TV service. I’m running UA-cam TV on mine they’re outside so if they get ruined because of weather who cares they suck but good enough lol

Rogers has a contract to use Xfinity equipment. Xfinity bought the cheapest equipment they could locate. Absolute garbage.
Charter/Spectrum is doing the same with the Xumo box. It's a piece of crap.

Bell's box allows all google play apps on it. Reason why I have a hard time switching from bell
