Way back in about 1970 I used the cabinet and the CRT from one of these to make an oscilloscope using a circuit from Practical Television. I stripped the scope down about 2006 and I still have the CRT. I may still have the motorised unit somewhere in my junk. I looked inside and it was some sort of rotary switch by the look of it. Amazing to see it again after all those years.
Could that whiny cylindrical thing in the unit be a way of switching between the two antenna inputs that are going to the unit? It could be a high speed rotary switch for RF. Those are SO239 connectors by the way. take care.
Interesting as usual. Do you think the twin antennas were phased in such a way that when pointing directly at the ground TX the crt would display the difference in signal timing reaching the LH and RH antennas? Pointing directly at the TX they should cancel? Just thinking aloud based on nothing in particular. Love these videos.

Very interesting. Is that another of Brian's units? Super condition. 😎
Yes Rupert it was! He had a fair bit of old radar stuff!!

I was thinking drum memory.
I wonder if the noisy motor is a way of sampling miltple inputs over a set time
Yeah I think it is ! Sort of motorised switch

I think you have it more or less correct!
cool stuff
Don't you mean SO-239's? 🤔
You know what I mean!
WRONG ! IT DOES NOT SWEEP IS ITS MAJOR TROUBLE !
I dont think it’s as simple as that as it needs other inputs from the tx/rx unit for it to work properly
@@thewtf could it be an X-Y display.
