Excellent list. I work in alcohol sales and I'm a hobbist bartender/craft cocktail maker; but is is very surprising that a significant amount of "bourbon snobs" dismiss quite a few of these (without even trying them) based on price, popularity or rarity. That is until I have them do blind tastings. I firmly believe (for bourbon only and excluding Pappy's) if you (an average person) are paying more than $80-$100, you are paying for a name for your collection, and not taste. There are comparable and virtually indistinguishable** drinking bourbon at well below $100. ** if you are in the 0.02%-0.05% of the worldwide human population that is outstanding at distinguishing individual distinct flavors, smells and ingredients in food and drinks(hyper-tasters), then my comment doesn't apply to you. You should definitely buy the expensive stuff... you'll notice a real difference. For 25% of the world population that are "super tasters" your ability to distinguish bourbons probably drops off at the $100-$150 range.
Very true. It’s crazy that so many people pass up these common but delicious bottles just to endlessly hunt for the “unicorns”. As for the .02-.05% even Fred Minnick has said that he’s picked regular Makers Mark over most of the Wellers in blinds. Not to say Wellers isn’t good but it’s most certainly hyped up. And thank you btw!
Yeap... went to the store to get regular buffalo trace cuz I wanted to compare it to something and it was one bottle per customer behind the counter. I don't even like Buffalo trace that much! That stuff was like 18 bucks a bottle 12 years ago.
I agree. Prices have gotten out of control. It’s crazy. I mean Buffalo Trace products are good. But look at your local shelves and take your pick. So many delicious and available bottles to choose from!
@@Rick-fz7tt That is a good one. Same as four roses. While they are good it’s just not the profile that I usually prefer so I left it out. That’s the best part about whiskey though…It’s all subjective!👌
Have you tried Wild Turkey Long Branch? $45-50 range and always in stock here.
I have. It’s good but not my favorite. Personally not a fan of the mesquite finish
