    I love the game and I spent too many hours in it but I do not agree that some bosses don't feel BS The final boss fight is straight up unfair the teleporting can be so unpredictable and it can literally instikill you And I know some people are gonna say that I'm overreacting and I should get good at the game But when I play on the lowest difficulty to enjoy a game and I have to actually try hard because the boss literally changes the arena constantly that's very annoying The same can be said about the NightWeaver but at least she can be Cheese

      Actually, I have to say I agree with you to some extent, but also, I had a hard time because my game wouldn't hit a steady 30fps, causing me to die at least 10 times. The difficulty spike is quite drastic because of how quickly the arena does change, but I managed to memorize his patterns. While the arena changes, it does so in a way that you can remember what attacks trigger the change.

    I thought the cube encounter was one of the best-designed I've played in any game. The reasons you don't like it was you were thinking of it as a boss. It's actually easier to think about it as an environment. There are patterns, rhythms, and "safe spots" if you understand how the geometry works. Imagine the play area like a chessboard. If the cube is on a black square 1 square diagonal from your black square, you can see both potential faces that will hit you. Those faces are the ones on the sides visible to you. You can predict whether you will be perfectly safe or whether you need to reposition. It is marvelously telegraphed and elegant.

      Someone mentioned that it's more of a puzzle than a boss fight, and that's when it clicked for me. I still don't particularly like it, but it seems to be one of the games' most praised sections. I think it's awesome that people are enjoying it, and it's cool to see how people differ from me.

      @@Centrifewgi I have the opposite opinion on the box fight. I feel like it fit the labyrinth very well. The labyrinth could be likened to a massive super computer that both connects and monitors all worlds. The box boss fight feels like a firewall you have to destroy to get to the core (The Keeper) of said super computer. The Keeper even calls you an anomaly, no wonder the labyrinth was trying to destroy you. I also don't think the one hit kill aspect was bad, although my playstyle might bias me here. I played with the Elder armor set through the whole game. Pretty much every boss had a couple moves that one shot me. I also don't think the Cube was that complex. Once I figured it out, which was fairly quick, I only died again because I was rushing instead of taking my time to kill the boss.

They layer up numerous background sounds which occur in a natural way, so you really do feel like you're hearing ambience that puts you directly into sidestreets and collapsing buildings, or an asylum, or a clock tower, or sewers etc..

    Honestly this game had me thinking the bosses were a mixed bag for a while, my third boss was Magister Dullain who I still maintain is the worst boss in the game, this guy will do his delayed insta-kill whipe throwing bodies at you, and leaving status effects on the ground, and spawning adds, all at once. Sometimes bosses doing multiple attacks at once can make things interesting, but it has to be done with precision, as far as I know Dullain's combos are random and I swear there were times where it was actually impossible to dodge everything. But after Dullain, I got The Nightweaver, and fighting her was one of the best gaming experiances I've ever had, it took longer and I died more times than I did yo Dullain, but I never raged, because when I died it felt like my fault, learning how to evade everything felt so good and it got to the point that on my final attempt, I was able to survive in the boss room for minutes at a time on 1% health before I was finally able to kill her. In my mind, these two bosses are the difference between challenge and difficulty, Nightwraver is a very challenging fight, but she's built to be overcome withcenoufh work, whereas Dullain jusr feels like a random roadblock and difficulty spike that no boss since has quite matched, and I'm glad for it.

    So I play on PC and I had no problems playing with a mid to low-tier PC that can play almost every game on low graphics at 60 FPS. With Remnant 2 I was able to play on High at 60 FPS. I don't know if its game optimization or hardware limitations but it definitely seems like your Series S is a little under powered for the game. Mind you they might be able to improve that in the future, but that's no excuse for game. The only bug I saw was my dog clipping into walls on 2 different occasions. I also had no crashes. In terms of difficulty, my only playthrough was on Veteran and I found most of it easy. Boss fights never took more than 7 or 8 attempts and some of them I beat first try. The only difficult one for me is the last boss. I destroy the first phase in about a minute and then the second phase feels like a massive difficulty increase.
    I found that the box fight felt like it was exactly what the labyrinth needed. My first few attempts I didn't realize there was a pattern. I thought the boxes were chasing me. I jumped over gaps to "make" them go around to get me. after my 3rd I realized the move in patterns. I really liked this boss fight because it felt very thematic for the labyrinths self defense systems. The mobs felt like an active defense system (an antivirus) and the boss felt like a firewall I had to bypass/destroy to progress.

Everything rushes you all the time, pops up behind you, shoots weird projectiles that hit when you think they'd miss and miss when you think they'd hit, curve around corners, or those even more annoying mortar projectiles that are impossible to dodge when there's more than one at a time. Or just flailing around hitting you through corners, charge attack queuing up a against a wall then pummeling you as soon as you peek. It's challenging but it's not fun, feeling myself burning out way faster than on the 1st game which had far less of that bs and felt way more methodical similar to an RE game.

The thing about the fight is that despite the instant kill nature of the cubes, the fight isn't actually that hard. All you need to do is learn the pattern of one of the easier cubes, and just stick there while you shoot the aky cubes and the other nearby ones. Once you've had 2 or 3 tries at it, only 1 or 2 cubes at max have any danger to them.

    I disagree with the cube boss.
    It took a different approach with the usual "do top DPS and the threat is over" and instead forces the player to juggle their positioning to avoid getting crushed while also scouting for those white weakpoints on the cubes as well as navigating a maze-like arena trying to shoot all of them. Was an interesting boss and one that helped break the expectation that all bosses were gonna be damage sponges where you just dodge an attack and punish accordingly. Just my 2 cents

    I am liking your review style so far.
    Though the first Remnant game left a very bitter taste. It was the only game in my many years
    of gaming, that i consciously and deliberately considered that it was not worth the effort. Because,
    it was based almost exclusively on cheap shots and cheap deaths with no redeeming gameplay
    features. I understand that the developers may have learned from their mistakes and fixed whatever
    was wrong, but the experience has built a pretty high wall of negative aura around the franchise.
    So i wonder, - does this part also revel in cheap shots or does it take a more sensible approach?
    Also, what about saving? Does it also use the same DS-shtick "play more or else", or is it possible
    to save game at your convenience? Mortal Shell, for example, took a wise middle ground and put
    save points before each significant event or level section. How does this game do?
    What about enemy resurrection ratio? How many are revived and at what speed?
    Some games did that very well (System Shock 2). And others did very poorly (Lords of the Fallen),
    where you literally had to repeat the Battle of Stalingrad x10 upon each respawn, no matter what.

    • @Centrifewgi
      @Centrifewgi  Рік тому +1

      I agree. I disliked the first one, this one definitely seems a lot more fair. Respawn points are often at the start of big areas and located near gateways to different sections. I was never bothered by the respawns of enemies, and boss fights have a lot more variety, so you can actually employ some strategies to get an upper hand. The new classes and abilities make it a lot of fun.

    I don't get why everyone keeps saying how the randomized design of the worlds brings so much depth and how it makes you want to play more than once. Don't get me wrong, I liked the game and played it a lot, but the randomness of the levels makes the game feel shallow to me. None of the locations, except for N'erud, feel like actual life ever happened there, it feels...well...randomized. The reason I played it more than once was just to try to see the dungeons that were not in my original playthrough with that other mode where you create just one planet. And even that would result, because of randomness, in me seeing the same dungeons again and not getting the one I wanted to explore. The game design would be so much better if they implemented everything they created on all maps and weave it in a more detailed world that actually makes sense when you look at it and expect that actual creatures that inhabit that world live there. And finally, there is not that much content in the game as everyone keeps saying. First of all there are three worlds with two small regions, that combined together maybe add up to 75% of one of those three worlds. You can basically finish the main quest on each world while fighting one smaller boss and one end world boss. That combined with one boss in the first small world, plus three bosses in the second small world result in like 10 bosses needed to finish the game. That is okay, a fine number if you just want to go through the game and be done with it, but even with all of the extra bosses and dungeons put together it's not really a huge game, it's just masked behind the "random progressive" world generation. Like I said before, the game is fine, I liked the gunplay and I played it two times over. I will play it once more with a friend. But the game could have been better. And yeah, the main story is so so bad, it's not even just generic it's god damn cringe, along with the dialog. Stories on each of the three worlds are a million times more entertaining. Also, the main character with his dialogue is represented as a dumb jock that's only good for killing things that move...just make a silent protagonist...I don't need to have an already bad final dialogue between a cosmic entity and our cringe teen girlboss npc protagonist interrupted by a "uhh that means we kill it right" spewed out of the characters mouth like he was in the middle of a thought should he eat a burrito or pizza and got interrupted by the plot suddenly.

Some of the dialogue in the main story is cringe, especially at the end, but yeah, the world stories are waaaay better.

I personally think that N'erud is one of the more beautiful worlds I have seen in a game...I like sci-fi horror go figure :) I just feel it could have been better from a game design point. One of the most fun games I've played in awhile. But it for sure has some issues performance wise. They use a lot, and I mean a lot of graphical API's as corner cutting measures. And it bogs systems down hugely. This game is no better visually than Gears of War 5 was or Outriders. Probably worse. So why does it run at like 40 frames per second at 1080p with an 6700xt? There's no justification. Some modders have built some stuff that lets you shut down a bunch of the enhanced graphics engine stuff and it makes a huge difference. The game should really have more options to let the player do that themselves. The games pretty ambitious with it's procedural tiles and all of that. But we have games like warframe that have been doing that for years and run at 100's of frames per second and still look pretty good. Frankly considering this game isn't an MMO, or even an MMO lite I don't really see what the procedural generation adds. If not having pre rendered stages and set pieces is what brought us to this place where we needed to have a million things running to give the game shadows and dynamic lighting than I think you made a mistake in implementing it at all.

    • @Centrifewgi
      @Centrifewgi  Рік тому

      The procedural generation adds diversity and makes repeat playthroughs have something different to offer the player, but I understand what you're getting at. As for graphics, I think the game looks good, but Gears 5 walks all over Remnant 2. Gears 5 is a graphical powerhouse.

      @@Centrifewgi If it was an MMO lite that you'd be playing over and over for potentially thousands of hours. Sure. It's not though. Even people with compulsions to get every item are going to do it in a couple hundred hours. I think they'd have been better served building the game with the same sort of core the first game had. Instead of working on all the procedural stuff it seems to me that putting some hours into optimization would have been nice.

    • @Centrifewgi
      @Centrifewgi  Рік тому

      @exturkconner optimization should always come first. With that being said, if players can easily soak over 100 hours into the game to find everything, I think the procedural elements fit right in. Seeing how runs can take more than a couple of hours, repeatedly going through the game and having different layouts will keep the game feeling fresh. As for the first game, I can't speak on that because I only put a handful of hours into it

    • @exturkconner
      @exturkconner Рік тому

      @@Centrifewgi The first game basically only had a couple of splits when you played it. You'd have your first world area which was always the same, and then a fog gate. You'd get one one two bosses. Upon completing that you'd get one of two forks. You'd get another boss, and one of two forks. So every map was set pieces none of it was procedural. Which has it's pluses and minuses of course. It meant you could memorize maps. Which is actually kind of standard fair in early souls likes. But it also meant that you could light the game knowing what the players were going to see. You didn't need an adaptive shadow API doing the lighting for your based on random tile elements. The game play at it's core was pretty much the same. The traits were how you built characters and they were strong. As compared to this game where traits are QoL and the builds are from mutators, and accessories and mods.

      I don't get that way of thinking. If a game launches, no matter what console, it should perform as intended, whether the system is lacking compared to its superior or not. When people get the S I don't think they are expecting to have a true next gen experience, nor should they. It's a budget system for anyone who can't afford a $700 console, so they can keep up with gaming and not be left behind. New games should run well on it, even if they are capped at 30 fps, 1080p.

      @@CentrifewgiI do agree with you, if they launch a game with the intent of it running on a console, it should work as they intend it. I guess my side is that there are two parts to it. One, is that the lower end version of the hardware could be restricting the potential creative freedom because of hardware limitations (not saying that has happened here).
      Two, it’s hard to get to appreciate the game in the way that the developers intended when you are restricted so heavily graphically. Example: in the area of the game where you have to read the time off of the clock tower and take it back to the side dungeon for a reward, I had to actually turn my graphics to a higher setting to be able to actually see the clock tower clearly enough to make out what the time was. If I didn’t know that I was supposed to be able to see it, I may have not even noticed that it was something that was meant to even be seen.
      I was in no way trying to take away from your review, because I actually really enjoyed the content. It was very well put together, and very well received by me. Keep up the good work.

      @ryancattuzzo9075 Oh, for sure, and I do get your point of view. These games definitely won't be experienced graphically the way they are supposed to on hardware that has limitations like the series s does, which sucks, but you get what you pay for. For the record, I didn't think you were taking away from the review, and I'm glad you commented because these discussions are good for gamers to have. Also I'm glad you liked the content! That means a lot.

      What I find frustrating is that I didn’t get the rewards for beating the final boss and the devs aren’t gonna give the players the rewards in a patch. It's all about upgrading your guns and picking the right abilities for your class that you unlock by leveling up. Most, if not all, the bosses have weak spots to deal extra damage. If you upgrade your guns and craft mods for them in the hub, you'll be able to increase their damage for a short time. I had fire rounds on my rifle.
