I’ve had cosmos for many years but never heard of Double Dutch! I’ve always let them grow tall but mow I’m going to try to make them more bushy. Thank you, and I love your calm, serene video.
Thank you! First time growing cosmos and I let them get way too tall without trimming them. They didn’t even have any blooms. Will do better next time.
Thanks so much! I just got some 10” tall cosmos from a local nursery. I couldn’t resist-my own seedlings are so leggy, but these are thick and sturdy. However, they already had buds on top! Will pinching them now, at the end of May, delay blooms for a long time? And will it send out lateral branches if I pinch them now? Thank you!
You could let them bloom then cut or pinch back after the first flowers die back. It'll still bush out more each time you pinch back. Should be fine either way though!
I keep hearing Cosmos don't need much water and are super draught tolerant. Based on this advice, I planted mine in grow bags with excellent drainage and well draining soil. However, if they go even a day or two in the PNW summer without watering they get dramatic and start drooping heavily. As soon as they are watered, they perk right up. Why is that?
Perhaps it’s the heat. Watering helps keep them cool. Plants need water to take up their nutrients as well. It is nice that they are resilient and perk right back up though!

LOVE Cosmos!! We plant them all over the property at random. I had no idea I could pinch them off to make them less leggy. Thank you!! Great video.
