Lats control the humerus and don't insert onto the scapula. Lower trap controls the scap to actually depress the shoulder. Lat engagement is easier to feel and is a byproduct of actively depressing the scap than engaging the lower trap. A strong leg drive combined with a sticky bench help depress the scap, too.
Keep them coming. This is the most I've ever learnt about shoulder movement and mobility during the bench press in the shortest amount of time.
