Your right . There are large corps making money off selling products that require oil. Actually everyone does. How to you heat your home. How do you get to and from work. What are your clothes made from. Almost everything Americans buy comes from China. What is all that stuff made from. How does it cross the globe to get to you. Every electric car has a 4 fold carbon footprint over the gas powered car. Let's not forget all the different mining and refining and toxic tailings to produce all that makes an electric car. What is the life span of that car. Let's add the other equation about infrastructure that has to support those electric cars. Do you know what electrical wire is made up of? I could go on and on

According to wikipedia sea level raise is 2.3mm/year so as an approximation assuming the trend is linear then in 12 years you are looking at 27.6mm (1.08 inch).
The main issue with climate change is that it is too slow moving to be taken serioursly.. unless you are very young then "it is not my problem" and most of the people in power are old enough not to care.

As a scientist it's maddening to listen to these two ignoramuses blather on about a subject of which they are both totally ignorant. On polar bears, the woman in question is a former, unpaid adjunct professor in the Anthropology Department at the University of Victoria, Canada. She is a climate change denialist and has been very vocal about that. Far from being the "best" counter of polar bears, she has done no actual research on polar bears nor published anything in the scientific literature. So, D'Souza's entire story is a fabrication, but Dillahunty is too ignorant of the subject to say anything. Total waste of time.

This is what is frustrating about using "facts" out of context. The polar bears are growing in numbers, but why? Could it be that their ranges are shrinking, causing them to become invasive to the northern coasts? These are questions one would ask oneself, when seeing these facts in this context. We know the glaciers are melting, that is a documented fact. How much of it is on us and what we can do about it is where the debate should lie; especially on what we can do. Its frustrating to see all this context be ignored, to simply say "well, the polar bears!"

I remember maybe five or six years ago a friend of mine who is a climate contrarian (my term for deniers who are friends 🙂) sent me a piece from the Epoch Times where she was downplaying the risk to Polar Bears from Climate Change and the deminishing sea ice in the arctic. That's Susan Crockford . I googled her and it seems as of a few years ago, she had not counted a polar bear. A letter from actual experts, some of which have counted bears, and were disgruntled by Crockford's shooting her mouth off, states "Notably, as of this writing, Crockford has neither conducted any original research nor published any articles in the peer-reviewed literature on polar bears."

Matt would have made these same arguments in 2004. The bottom line: there's a reason why there's more ice now than data predicted (see the cap study from last week.) There's a reason why you can visually see zero difference in ocean depth over 30 years of satellite pictures. There's a reason we show far greater temperatures and sea levels over 100 years ago, long before evil fossil fuels had the time to pollute the world. There's a reason why "every single" climate prediction has been dead f-cking wrong. I'm an atheist, but that's because I'm a skeptic. Matt is ignoring data that would be "immediately" used against, say, Christianity. Just ignoring it completely. As my friend who is a climatologist says, "The data are correct, but our models are f-ed. They've been f-ed for decades." That's correct - they are completely f-cked, and if you applied half the skepticism to seeing how these data play out over decades (virtually zero predictions correct) then you'd be equally skeptical. But atheists turn off skepticism when politics get involved. For the most part, it's what3ever the left side of the isle is preaching. This is, hate to say it, a lot of 'their' religion.

The population of polar bears (Ursus maritimus) has experienced significant fluctuations over the past 100 years due to factors such as hunting, climate change, and conservation efforts. During the first half of the 20th century, the polar bear population was severely threatened by commercial and sport hunting, as bears were highly valued for their fur and fat.The population of polar bears was less than 10.000 in the sixties, and now is close to 30.000, because the signing of the International Agreement on the Conservation of Polar Bears in 1973 by Canada, Denmark, Norway, the United States, and the Soviet Union, banned the commercial hunting and strict regulations on subsistence hunting were implemented. There are countless studies just on air samples, that Dinesh could have read. But he makes up some silly process that nobody is basing climate change on and thinks that debunks it.
We can measure the carbon increase. Period. We can also tell it’s fossil fuel carbon and not living carbons that are increasing period. Considering how much we have increased the burning of fossils in the last century, it would be really weird to suggest it doesn’t have an effect. Like really weird.

@@Jonesyyy12Firstly, the spelling is indicative of them having a different primary language (if memory serves, that way of spelling those terms is usually from German speakers). You probably didn't know that prior, but now you can look out for it and understand.
Secondly, what you've done is committed the textbook definition of an ad hominem attack/fallacy. You're trying to discredit them not via an argument about the position/data, but on their (supposed) lack of ability on an unrelated skill set/topic.
      Do better.
