I just retired so I thought I would give photography a try. I just bought the Sony A7RV, Sony 85mm GM 2 f/1.4 and the Sony 35mm GM f/1.4 Whenever I start a new hobby I hate upgrading later
Nice review. Is there a way to save photo settings (iso, ss etc) and video settings separately. On my A7cr when switch between them it carry’s over the settings rather than saving each time.
I want this bad boy so bad. Saving and setting bucket list for this 7RV. I'm a stills guy and definitely this 100% go to for me. I'll see by mid Spring of 2025 if they'll be good deals on it.
Great video highlighting the pros and cons of this camera! I’ve always been a Canon enthusiast and am finally looking to upgrade my 5D Mark IV. I use my camera professionally part-time, and for personal use the rest of the time, and the 5D Mark IV has been perfect. Recently, I’ve needed to shoot more in 4K60 and am looking for a significant upgrade in autofocus. I was considering the R6 Mark II, but with rumors of the R6 Mark III being announced soon, I’m hesitant to make a move now and potentially miss out on better tech. I’m also considering switching to Sony, but that would mean investing in all new lenses. First world problems, I know! I just want the best value for my semi-professional and personal use. The problem is, there are just too many camera models to choose from these days! 😂 Thanks for the review. My mind still isn’t made up. 😆
If i may give some input. I can understand not wanting to move on new gear too soon. If you want a video camera I would definitely go with sony. I have an r6 mk ii and i always bust out my sony for video. Also the canon r6 ii codec is not as good as the sony codec . Also you can use all your canon ef/ L lenses with the sony using a adapter without taking a massive autofocus hit. But native glass is always more reliable. I would also consider the nikon z6 iii . I have one in hand right now and its pretty bad ass
Hey, I saw that you shot a basketball game, did you have rolling shutter for photos? I want to buy this for shooting soccer games and motor sports but worried it may not be fast enough
10fps is more than fast enough for most all sports. Sure you can get better but needing better is subject to what you will shot. Having shot soccer games for over a decade I would say this is a great camera but focus your spend on as fast a lens as you can. Those evening games will push your iso and on a slower lens you may not be happy. Also perhaps even more important is consider the focal length. Soccer can be difficult with only 1 camera. If you have only one camera then likely a zoom will be the choice. The Sony 70-200 2.8 ii will work close in but from across the field you will have to crop with varying success. You can consider the 1.4 tc if you have the funds. That will yield a 100-280 f4 and excellent sharpness. So in summary don’t worry about more cameras until you have the best lens you can budget. You could easily shoot soccer on a less camera - perhaps consider a used a9 ii as those are quite a deal right now. Motor sports will depend on use but again focus on the lens not the camera. This is why lenses hold soo much value compared to camera bodies.
Wdym how bad? I'm using a Canon R7 which has been notoriously flagged as bad in low light camera but it works just amazing. So it means this A7RV is much better in low light settings.
@@johnkeithborrel5819 Well, I have A7R5 and never had an issue with low light performance. And Im not even using GM lenses, mostly Tamron Sigma and Viltrox plus Sony macro.

At 4:08, you said it can shoot 538 Raw photos per second. I am sure you ment 538 Raw photos without stopping. A huge difference.
It meant the speed of the memory card can handle 538 raw photos per second. Not that the camera can accomplish that.
shut up!
I just got this! Primary shooter, A7IV as backup/second.
Set the center dial button for apsc crop mode 😊

This camera is sick! Heavy, bold and the EV is wow! The price! Ugh! Good for a pro.
I wish user LUTS function will arrive for this camera(Sony A7RV) as a firmware update since new a7cr has this useful function.
Would this camera be good for photographing small coloured gemstones in macro?

Did anyone feel the body get slightly warm from normal shooting? I’m trying to figure out why mine is getting warm. Thanks!
Mine definitely gets warm while shooting as well
the 4k 60fps crops more when you use active steady mode
Agreed. Im pretty sure i mention that
Did anyone experience warming/heating when shooting with the Sony a7RV?
Never, but sometimes You can feel its pretty warm.
I think this is not Sony's best choice
for video.
I think its their best hybrid
Video was very much informative. Does the rolling shutter makes problem in 4k 60 fps
how 35999 camera
I'm the one Today like please 😊😊
No one ever talks about how bad this camera performs in low light for photography
How bad?
Wdym how bad? I'm using a Canon R7 which has been notoriously flagged as bad in low light camera but it works just amazing. So it means this A7RV is much better in low light settings.
Don’t shoot in low light?
You just need a low aperture lens like 2.8 and 1.8 and you're good to go
