Yes, that's the golden grasshopper of Sir Thomas Gresham who's business evolved into Martins Bank that was eventually bought by Barclays. These signs were very common in the City, C Hoare & Co still trades and uses the golden bottle as their sign.
The guy that was selling the giant grasshopper had no idea of its worth, while Drew knew exactly what he could get for it, that is why Drew's eyes lit up when the guy plucked a ludicriously low price out pf the air.
Drew had his private collection and unsold stock auctioned off last year, and this grasshopper is in the catalogue, with an estimate of £150-£250. So 100 quid for the house clearance guys sounds about right.
i still don't get it..unless they edit a ton out..driving and all that time for 2 items for 500 profit ? that place was loaded...and all he came away with is that ??? can't be...
They make their money from their UA-cam channel. There are youtube channels in the US where people mow people’s overgrown lawns for free, but they make their money from their channel.
We never see behind scenes like cammera people and stagers they edit very well. No bathroom or food breaks. It takes a lot of time to set up and take down production
they probably edit out alot, they show three places per episode usually and they probably just pick out the most interesting/unique/expensive etc. items from each place and not every single thing they buy as it wouldn't be time for it an probably loads of repeats etc. things he always buys etc.
No, you do get it: of course they edit stuff out - or rather they pick a few items from the footage they shoot. But even if he only buys 3 things, it’s enough to produce the TV show, and the show makes enough money to pay everybody. But no, you’re right: it doesn’t work like that. I’m guessing he usually gets in his car and visits at least 10 spots per day, buys stuff and has it picked up later.
@@donelmore2540 “They” don’t have a UA-cam channel. The show is on TV, then there’s a channel called Quest that holds the rights to older episodes, and they show short clips on UA-cam. This video right here is pirated content.
From the US, THANK YOU Drew your show is appreciated.
New episode for me and really enjoyed their humor. Yay🎉
Loved this. Thank you 😊
That locust makes 3 things to haunt my dreams from this show, an apothecary cabinet, bumpy textured propellar brass lamps and locust.
The UK used to be First Class, now it's certainly now Third Class !

Spot on! Absolutely right…there is (or was) one in the City - think King William St
Loads of stock, good prices, wouldn`t mind visiting them myself.

Martins banks in London used to have these grass hoppers hanging out side the front door , worth at least a grand

When I saw the locust the first thing I thought was is that a prop from the film 'Quatermass and the Pit'.
