- November 14, 2003 (HAZARD, Ky.) - It’s now always how you start, but rather how you finish. At one time in the 2003 season, the Lynn Camp Wildcats were stuck in the mud with a 3-4 record and going nowhere fast. Then, as it does with Cinderella teams, the light came on and when it did the Happy Campers didn’t turn it off until they captured the school’s first football region title.
David Mitchell’s Wildcats would win six games in a row and that included a stunning 55-34 win over a 10-1 Hazard club which had blown out teams all season. Lynn Camp used a Herculean effort from Dusty Brock who set the tone with a game-opening kickoff return for touchdown. Brock also had a fumble recovery and an interception. He did it all.
In fact, Brock kept running and kept scoring to the tune of around 300 yards of total offense against the Bulldogs. Hazard was led by the strong arm of Stephen Sizemore and receivers Lamar Williams and DJ Hoskins.
Sizemore passed for more than 3,500 yards and 38 touchdowns in 2003 with Williams finishing the season with more than 1,600 yards receiving and 17 TDs.
The following week Lynn Camp would beat Pikeville 35-28 in overtime to advance to the state semifinals for the only time in school history.
