My Urban Garden

- In this short film, Halifax gardener Carol Bowlby harvests a mouth-watering crop from her small backyard plot. In considering soil quality, lack of space and a short growing season challenges rather than obstacles, she offers a wealth of practical growing tips for urban gardeners. By heeding Bowlby's advice, bountiful organic gardens work equally well on apartment balconies, in small or large city lots or in a rural setting.
Directed by Polly Bennell - 1984
Awesome film. You were so ahead of your time! You are so encouraging. Thank you.
I watch this video at least once a year and absolutely love it. So inspiring and beautiful in every way 💗
This reminds me of the movies we had to watch in high school.Very informative though
Meraviglioso!💗
Gardening barefoot and the ladder trellis! Can't believe I just threw one of those old ladders away.
This was THE MOST HELPFUL AND informative video I have EVER watched about urban gardening. Thank you and god bless you guys
In awe of your skill...thanks for sharing

Loved the retro feel of this movie, complete with groovy music! Having said that, the advice is so helpful and the footage is excellent. What amazing produce and it was so lovley to see someone work so lovingly in their garden. Thank you very much.
Very well made video, almost like a documentary with great tips. Worth watching.
I am so charmed by this film! I was only listening to it while I was working and, while I thought the soundtrack was a little dated, the advice all seemed spot-on with what I'm learning as a new gardener TODAY! (Now I know the soundtrack is "vintage" :) ) Replayed it and loved seeing all the advice I'm reading now in action years ago. I can't help but wonder if Carol still gardening today.
This movie has a very nice, nostalgic athmosphere going on
Seems to be vintage 1970's or '80's.

Love it. 1970's or'80's? 22:00 What family can consume plus process and store this much everyday? Of course not everyday yields that much, more like twice a wk. at best.
That was so enjoyable.many blessing
how long growing season annually in halifax
Beautiful life 🧑🏻🌾
great video
I love love this video. thank you
Very good! Very impressive very smart!
I am doing the same ! I hope one day to be going to the store only 2 a year and produce all my food in my yard including the lifestock and organic fertilizer they produce! Everything in my mouth apart from coffee sugar flour will be produced on site!
I figured out a way to destroy and deal with my garbage as well which will blow the minds of the people around me! I put all my unburnable trash in buckets from cheese and build my barn duck house wood shed and every animal building from recicled trash! The stuff in between is cob that I will make on site as well! I have a forest around me so all my browns come from there!
I think I am going nuts but I know I don't have to go out to throw trash any time soon !
What a beautiful urban garden!
This video is almost as old as me but the surprising thing is she has some stuff I thought what quite advanced, all those cold frames and the lightbox indoors.
I like your video so much. It's neatly edited and your narration is excellent. Thank you for this video
I love it-no excuses to start your vegetable garden and feed your family. Checking in from zone 7b in Virginia.
I like the way you grow your edible greens. Not like other garden farmers, they sound like we should treat this like rocket science, regarding soil, fertilizers, tools, containers, spacing, aesthetics, etc. That's not how nature works most of the time. As long as we give them the basics, they thrive. Like people, plants adapt too! Thank you for the video!
I agree with Rina Keyser and many others ...great intro for me....felt like I wanted to be there with you...especially the point of not dragging out points....it's just enough info.....great job...I'll enjoy your blog.---Tks...garden looks great!!!😊
Beautiful, inspiring. 1970's or '80's? So happy I have 10X more space and amazing natural soil.
What a wonderful, wonderful educational video. I garden year round in zone 9b, central Florida. You provided several ideas I can incorporate in my garden here in the deep south. Thank you for posting.
What if your apt is a basement...with a south facing window that gets almost no sun? 🤔
this lovely lady passed away
We belong to Allah and to Him we shall return
Well documented. Looks like you have covered all seasons. When you planted I wondered how it grows. But I saw the final results as well. E.g. tomoto with ladder.
Hats 🎩 off
You are an amazing woman!
your lovely documentary on gardening brings the quiet satisfaction of caring for this earth and all growing things...this is what gardening should feel like..absolutely beautiful!!

Yes it is...and its natural.. No artificial chemicals..
